Quite bizarre omission that one. Liverpool is getting a store before Newcastle, even though the Trafford Centre isn't that far outside Merseyside whereas Geordies have to go all the way to Sheffield for their nearest.

I guess it's just waiting for the right location to become available as in Glasgow.

I think the factors involved with this is that :-

1. It's going in a £1Billion shopping center that ties in with 2008
2. Merseyside has a dense population of 1.5 Million
3. Lots of creative students, design professionals etc...
4. It's easy for North Wales residents as well

This is all from the Daily Post article ^

Surely Newcastle must be up there next in line for a store

Apple does do its homework when it comes to placing a new store. If you notice, they are usually in highly affluent areas. But, when your flagship notebook starts at $2000, you're going to need people with money to buy your product.

Yep. Los Angeles (county) probably has a dozen by now...I think more than the entire state of new york combined. I have the pleasure of having one near walking distance :) And the flagship store in LA is at the grove, and if you stand at a certain street corner where the grove/farmers market is, you can see the beverly center building, which has the beverly center apple store. That's how close some of the stores are...

And California..well, more like LA, San Diego, and the bay area has 36 stores, and you can't really forget the company store in cupertino either, for a total of 37.

No Apple Stores in Auckland NZ (1 million), then again no stores in New Zealand (4 million). :(

im in london

I was reading a thread and read that most cities of 200 000+ people have one. I thought it'd be interesting to see if this was true, so post what city your from and the population if you don't have an apple store. I'm from Winnipeg which is close to 700 000 people and we don't have one. The nearest Apple Store is in Minneapolis (I Think, unless there's a closer one) which is roughly an 8 hour drive!

london ontario and we have 360,000

OT: I can name one of the smallest cities that *does* have an Apple store. Estero, Florida. Population 9,503 (as of the last census).

Not a city or urban area. My city, which has more than 200,000 people, and is only a few miles from Apple's headquarters, doesn't have one:mad: The one closest to me is 30 minutes away!

Cork, population about 250K, has had an Apple plant for years. I can even see the plant from my living room window, but no Apple Store.

Speaking for mainland Western Europe here....

Nothing in A'dam (around 800,000) yet.
Brussels?
Paris?
Madrid?
Berlin?

Germany's getting one (Munich or Dortmund.. can't remember), and there are always rumors of one on the Champs-Elysées... and I thought I read somewhere that Rome was getting one aswell.

So, one in Germany, one in Italy and probably one in France pretty soon too. Not alot IMHO. ;)

In Holland we have a couple of "Apple Premium Resellers" (the Apple Centres of old), which are pretty good, who make an effort to look like an Apple Store, but don't have the means to actually be able to compete with a real Apple Store.

Isn't that ironic? I guess that makes me feel a little less cheezed off.

The two biggest relevant to me that I can think of are greater Vancouver (approx 2.2 million people), and Calgary (approx 1 million).

I think the one area that Apple stores are lacking is in the Coachella Valley (Palm Springs / Palm Desert). It has a somewhat large population, around 400,000 according to wikipedia, and it is full of people that would fit into Apple's target group - wealthy Mac users.

How about Springfield, Missouri? There are about 500k people in the greater metropolitan area, which includes Branson. While Springifled is not high income by any means, there are more than 10 colleges and universities, which means that there are a ton of trendy college students who are into apple stuff. The closest Apple store is in Kansas City three hours away. Not cool.

Wales - 2.94 Million

There is no Apple store in Wales. The closest is a Mac store in Bristol (England), but whilst it is authorised by Apple and whatnot, its not an Apple store.
You're lucky, we don't even have anything close .....

The nearest we can manage is two or three mac's in our main PC World store .....

What about Wales?

How far does someone from South Wales have to travel to the nearest Apple store?

Birmingham or London are probably the easiest to get to...

Birmingham is the closest Official Apple Store, but there's an authorized repair centre at Cardiff.
