I can't imagine that population is nearly as much of a deciding factor as the average income of that population. Allentown PA just opened an Apple store because a fair amount of wealthy folks from NJ and NY are escaping high taxes and moving to PA. Places like Greenville SC ought to open one soon, as a fair amount of the nouveau rich are moving to the general vicinity.

Ok, a quiz. When I'm in my original home town (meaning where I was born, not where I live) there's no Apple Store, but that's not surprising because the population is only about 40K.

There's an Apple store in the state's biggest city, and it's only about 200 miles from my town . . . but getting there means buying an airline ticket and flying.

Where is this?

How about Dublin in my humble Ireland?

Population of c. 500,000 - greater Dublin will hit 2 million soon and it's one of the fastest growing cities in the world (I happen to live in one of the fastest growing villages in Europe also) - I only know of one authorised Apple Reseller in Dublin too.

By the way, just off St. Stevens Green, there is an Apple... shop... of some sort...

Lexington, KY has 270,000 people in the city and another 436,000 people in its metropolitan area, and we do not have an Apple Store. The nearest Apple Store is 70 miles away in Louisville. I want an Apple Store in Lexington.

It is criminal there isn't one in Spokane. With the surrounding area (which is like one big economic area) there are ~600,000 people. The closest Apple store is 5 hours/400 miles away in Seattle.

Dare I mention that Toronto just got another one last weekend? :)

Incidentally, isn't Ottawa closer to the Apple store in Montréal?

Surely you wouldn't have to purchase an airline ticket? You mean flying would just be more convenient to get there, right?

Either way I'm curious. :)

^^^Hilo, Hawaii.

BTW, there are four Apple Stores within an hour's drive of where I am, which isn't an island paradise.

That's too small for Apple to worry about right now. They're focused more on major urban centers, and while Spokane is the biggest city for hundreds of miles, it's still nowhere near the size of Seattle. You'll just have to stick with local Apple shops until Apple decides to go for the smaller markets.

Forget about a city with no Apple Store... the whole of New Zealand still doesn't have an Apple Store... all faulty products need to be sent to Australia to get fixed and they don't even offer loaner products while the faulty product jets off to be fixed (no phone for what can be weeks!!!!)... New Zealand has over 4million people over the two islands and we are still waiting some 17 years after the first store was opened!!!!
