This is intended towards Aspyr.

I recently performed a clean install on my macbook. I had bioshock infinite purchased before the clean install and now I am trying to find it in purchases (like my other games such as borderlands 2) and it is not there at all. Every other game i purchased is there. But bioshock infinite is not.

In fact if I search for the game, I am asked to buy the game again in order to play it...

What is this? what is happening?

Like a clean OS install? MacAppStore version or Steam?

I would contact Aspyr support with a copy of your sales email etc, I think that would be easier for them to help you as you can sent them the personal info they need to investigate :)

Good luck!

Fingers crossed and I just said a little prayer for success here. I hope you get to play. :)

Well it seems I won't be able to play this game on my Mac. Even after a fresh OS instal on a new drive, with nothing else than Steam and Bioshock installed, it still crashes before any window opens. I think it is a hardware issue, given the error code (EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION). I suppose my GPU or CPU is not supported, as Aspyr haven't tested the game on a config similar to mine.

Actually it sounds like he's getting a rather common Mac App Store error, happens to me every time I delete and re-download the Arkham games as well. You just have to click the purchase button again and it will recognize that you own the game.

I am bit frustrated that my initial support request was closed before I could report the above. Creating a new ticket would cause further delay.
Blair, would you be so kind as to tell me if Bioshock installs any file outside the steamApps folder (searching for "bioshock" or "aspyr" including system files and invisible files didn't return anything outside the steam folder). If it does, then my numerous reinstallation's of the game may not have had any effect on the issue. If it does not, then I would suppose there is a hardware incompatibility.
Do you know whether the game supports Woodcrest processors (Core2 architecture) ? Support could not confirm that the game supports the radeon 4870, but I see no reason why it would not, since it runs on a radeon 4850.

Sorry for the delay here, I just had my first born and have been in the hospital with the Mrs. for a spell.:D

Jeanlain, I've PM'd you so that I can find your ticket and more importantly your system profile. If I had my guess, the fact that you are on an old CoreDuo MacPro may be the issue. We are going to dig further for you JIC. BI currently does not install any files outside the SteamApps folder other than the standard Preferences and Application Support folders.

Also, 10.9.2 just dropped with several fixes to ATI drivers. Will those of you that have had issues with the 7950 please let us know what you are seeing in the real world? :apple:

I think those could be important. You see, my steam folder is on a separate drive with a simlink to the application support folder. This was the case when I first tried to run the game, without any success. Then I removed the simlink and reinstalled the game on my system drive, but the issue persisted. Maybe the path to the game.app remained stored in a preference file (I could not find any).
I've seen report about apps crashing at launch with an EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION message due to some simlinks. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3192885?tstart=0

Oh and congrats, Blair. :) I'll try on 10.9.2 asap.

Blair,

Congrats on the baby, and welcome to the daddy world! It is impossible to overestimate how much having a child will change your life. Take the time to enjoy every moment, because time just sped up for you 5X!

Ain't that the truth. Both of my babies have grown up, graduated college and are working as a social worker and a teacher now. And I have a grandson as well! How the time flew by.

Thanks for the love guys. I can honestly say she is way cooler than I thought :p

My coworkers at the office joke that I will have to switch over to turn based games from here on out. We will see....we will see. :apple:

Ok, just loaded up 10.9.2, fought through a little Steam crankiness, and started up Infinite. I can't say it's everything I dreamed I would see with a 7950, but not only is it playable at 1920x1080, it is actually rather smooth. There is a little tearing, but it isn't bad at all. Not perfect, but I'm finally going to get to play through on my Pro. 9.2=Good!!!!

And congrats on the baby, I miss having one that age. Well, some of the time ;)

Thanks for the update! Yeah, we arent exactly thrilled with the performance right now either, but its a far cry better than the completely unplayable state it was in before. We will continue to work with Apple and ATI to iron that chipset out, but we are happy thus far with the 10.9.2 changes.:apple:

Well, this isn't working for me. I gave it a last try by reinstalling OS X on a formatted HD. With nothing more than Steam and Bioshock installed on 10.9.2, it still crashes. I'm advised to contact my "local Apple shop technician", which I'm not going to do. Anyone playing this game on Mavericks with a radeon 4870?

I would give that 4870 a whirl, but I sold it a while back once I was convinced the 7950 would do ok. The 7950 looks like it could handle significantly increased detail at this point, I think it's just fine tuning that's left. I'm going to play forward some more, but going from what was a choppy, laggy disaster (and that was during the rowboat scene, not heavy combat!) to a super smooth game with a bit of tearing is a massive improvement. Keep up the good work, you're almost there!

I'll see if I can get the 4870 back on loan, but you're on a 1,1 aren't you? Not sure if it's apples to apples there. Now that I think about it, the guy I sold the card to was on a 1,1, though he was not on Mavericks. I'll try to get in touch with him.

Thanks man.
Yes I have a Mac Pro 1.1 that isn't supposed to run mavericks, but I doubt the issue comes for the fact that I use a modified boot.efi file, given that I have no trouble whatsoever with the machine except that bug.
It may be due to the old Woodcrest processors that lack some extensions. However, the game is supposed to support 2008 Mac Pros, which have core2-based xeons.
Support at aspyr said there might be a driver issue with DirectX 11 (???). Weird, since DX is a Windows technology and the 4870 doesn't support it anyway.

I'm sorry Jeanlain, but I believe we have run out of solutions here. We dont have a MacPro old enough to test apple to apples (we stopped using them when Apple no longer supported them on new OS's), so the only thing our team can come up with after reviewing your system profile is that fact: Your MP 1.1 is unable to run the required OS correctly without modifications to the boot file (and thereby the extensions). We've even chatted with our peers in the business, and came to the same conclusion.

Why this effects BI specifically and not your other games is a mystery. What we do know is there is a reason why MP 1.1's cant run newer OS's natively. I wish I knew why specifically, so that I could have a more intelligent conversation with you here, and possibly lead us to a solution. My guess is that its not impossible to run 10.9 on your MP1.1 as you and others have clearly shown. Its that the experience has hitches (however rare) and those hitches are not worth delving into a machine from 2006 to fix from a cost perspective. We have the same conversations internally about supporting/not supporting 10.6 all time.

My apologies Jean, we were really hoping to get to the bottom of this for you.

Thanks anyway Blair. You did your best considering that my Mac isn't supported by Mavericks. I'll play the game on another machine or on Windows (not sure if I can get win 7 on this Mac...).
Just out of curiosity, have you tested the game on a 2008 Mac Pro or with a radeon 4870?

PS: FYI, Mac Pros 1.1 don't run mavericks because they have a 32-bit firmware and Apple didn't make the effort to propose a firmware upgrade or a solution to make it compatible with the 64-bit kernel. I'm using a modified boot.efi file that loads the 64-bit kernel and all its extensions. I'd be surprised if some extension wasn't working properly, but it's a possibility. What I'm surprised about is that the game crashes before the first window opens. I can't understand the crash report, but I would think the issue is not due to a graphics bug with the game engine at this stage...
Maybe I'll try booting Mavericks with another method (chameleon).

Alas, I am apparently at a dead end as well, I must have been communicating by text with the guy I sold the card to, and since I sold it on Craigslist, I have no way of emailing him since the reply email is now broken. And since I got a new phone between then and now, the texts and his number are gone as well. Sorry. Does indeed sound like it must be some oddball thing broken in Mav. Have you tried a separate Lion boot and play it off of there?

We have on a MP 3.1 (Harpertown) with no issues, but our version of the 4870 is a 512MB card and yours is showing at 1GB. This leads me to believe you may be running a modified firmware version of the card? This may be the reason for the appearance of DX11 in your crash logs.

Ah yes this is a 1GB flashed card, which has been working like a charm... :D But we cannot discard that as the source of the issue.

The game requires 10.8.5, which isn't supported on my Mac either.
Thanks for your effort. I guess it's time I upgrade my config if I want to play cutting edge games.

Seems that there are far worse outcomes :)

4,1s are getting pretty cheap, as are the processors to pep them up. More POWER!!!

Egads, scratch that. I had gotten used to seeing 4,1s for the low 700s, apparently they've shot up a couple hundred bucks. I stand corrected. NMP has had something of an effect, I guess.

Funny

I booted Bioshock Infinite on my 1680*1050 MBP, and was also limited in resolutions at first, but then I actually started a game, and from within the game's (not the main menu's) options menu, I had access to all resolutions, including the native 1680*1050.
