The OP's phone looks pretty beat up to have been in a case since launch day. That damage looks like what would happen outside the case.

It’s not beat up at all. That photo was taken hurriedly while I was on the phone to Apple. It’s close up so every speck of dust shows up. I can post a clearer photo if you're suspicious that it’s “beat up”.

I think Apple stocks extra phones for exchanges, I know this technically wouldn’t be an exchange but if Apple is involved, they should be able to make an exception. Do you have any stores near you that you can go into?

I think you’re right but sadly they can’t help because it’s a change of phone colour. They’re just saying they’ll extend the return period to 30 days to allow me to hunt for a replacement.

My phone was halfway in my pants pocket with my pants on the tile floor. It fell on its side about 6” and there’s already permanent marks through the PVD coating. i honestly can’t believe it.

So sorry to hear that, any pictures? Sometimes Apple will exchange this close from launch.

Maybe there are some of the new phones that are a bit more susceptible to scratches? 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ve literally never seen damage to any of my phones like this. Even the ones that I’ve dropped.

I pass my old phones onto my partner each year and they’re always in excellent condition.

Lol your phone doesnt look beat up at all. Not sure whats going on but every person who makes a thread clearly showing a defect have doubt its the fault of Apple. Bizarre.

People in here were nonstop blaming users of the overheating issue, even though Apple ADMITTED its on their end. The sheep need to get back in order or something, come on.

Switch that phone. Thats a coating defect. My black which has been in and out of 5 diff cases has no issues. The QC is crappy on the phone though but thats how Apple is now.

The manufacturing process for this phone unfortunately was still in the beta process at time of release and Apple knew this with different materials, models, coatings and plants etc.. but had to go with it and deal with the fallout….hopefully the adjustments that started even before release and going on now will be robust by 16 for a final release version.
Sounds likely. They make revisions during the life of the phone.

Well now I am really worried, despite this poor coating I was going to buy blue pro max and put it inside blue silicon case but since they are not safe even there I dont know what to do… I dont really like natural titanium color and already bought AWU2 with blue alpine loop to match colors… 🤨

it's a defective phone, no case will scratch the coating

I hopę so, luckily I have a time until december/january so I will observe a scale of problems with coating, my 1st choice was clear case but it does not cover bottom frame

Apple didn't admit anything. The trolls and tubers claimed it was a hardware problem. Everyone else and Apple proved it was a software bug in a couple of apps and mostly awful social apps.

Just like Steve Jobs telling us we held the phone wrong! Good times. RIP Steve.

Man was dying from cancer and stressed. Am sure if you were on your last legs and had the weight of a company on your shoulders you would say some odd quips too.

But of course some people believe they are perfect and everything they receive must be perfect in every way too. So they don't believe a man with cancer can be stressed and they can't understand the world doesn't revolve around them.

Steve Jobs represented Apple. And Apple telling millions of customers they were holding a phone wrong, which was untrue because eventually Apple admitted they messed up, was wrong. Cancer or not, it was wrong. They clearly knew they messed up, and tried covering it up after getting caught.

I agree way too many here believe the device they receive must be perfect. Thats true. However, way too many here defend Apple in every single way shape and form. They find absolutely no fault in what Apple does, believe Apple is perfect and makes 0 mistakes.

The titanium did not make that much difference to me, my 14 PM was never too heavy. Would have been fine with me if they had used the same materials used in the 14.

The reduction in weight and moving the weight distribution more toward the center is a big difference and the phone feels much more nimble to move and hod in your fingers. It doesn’t sound like a lot of weight but it makes a difference when you are handling it with fingers. i moved to the pro this year because they got rid of the finger-print magnet polished stainless steel.

That’s not true if some grit gets into the case. It can rub between the case and the phone. Something to watch out for.
Yes. But just putting it and removing it from a case will not scratch the coating on a non defective phone

But yeah grit especially in transparent cases will scratch any phone

Like I said, I am using my 15 PM now and I can not detect that big of a difference In weight or balance between the two. Just me I guess.
