The way their CEO talks I wouldn't trust BlackBerry to stay in the handset business which means (once the $750 Priv sales flop like we all know it will) I wouldn't trust BlackBerry to continue burning through money to keep the Priv updated...

Stay away IMO.

Well, I've preordered the Priv. I'm in UK and apparently the phone will be delivered on the 6th (next Friday).
I'll be sure to post some pics and impressions if there's appetite for it.

I'm doing it because with car phone warehouse where I've ordered from you can order the handset, and have 14 days to return no questions. Like Apple etc.
I'm so intrigued by it I thought it'd be silly not to but it's going to take a lot to prise my 6S away from me. I think the Priv will be too big for my personal taste, but let's see.

Definitely post pics, interested to see it in the flesh

Yeah will do.
I'm looking forward to getting it. I'm not hugely invested in the Apple 'system', not like I once was anyway, but I still think Android will leave a lot to be desired. Having said that I've only tried with Android once last year and I enjoyed it, but didn't fully throw myself into it.

I'm more excited about the fact it's BlackBerry as some of my favourite phones over the last few years have been BB10 devices, only sold for something else due to lack of apps and small screen size that made media very difficult (Q10, Classic etc). That is now rectified so it's an exciting prospect!

I preordered the phone as well. At $699 its cheaper than the 6+ i had before it, except it has a keyboard.

Im excited because its different! every single phone being released is just another glass slab with some half baked upgrade touted as "revolutionary". At least now I can have something different and something I want. But if you dont want a PKB then this phone isnt the phone for you.

Glad to see another pre order! I'm unsure if mine will arrive on Friday (6th) now as first expected. Had an email from carphonewarehouse saying that my order was accepted but is currently on back order due to stock. I thought that was just a general email due to it being a preorder and then obviously not having stock just yet, but others who have preordered earlier than me from CPW haven't had this.
So not sure when it will arrive now. Regardless I'll be sure to post pics when it does turn up.

I'm apprehensive about it now anyway (more so than before) as a guy on crack berry forums has one and been giving his thoughts on the device and answering other members questions. It seems the things I love from the BB10 devices (hub mainly) is there but does not work well at all.
For instance in BB10, your notifications all go in there from texts, emails, BBM's, what's apps, Twitter, Facebook notifications etc. You can reply directly from there without properly launching the app but with Priv, the notification appears on both the hub and the app icon itself. Clearing from one does not clear it from the other, instead you have to view it in the hub, then it clears and then go into the separate app to clear it from there.
Step backwards.
Having said that, the 'Android Hub' is now a downloadable app from the Play Store which means it could get updates regularly which would fix these things and mirror it to BB10 where it worked brilliantly.

Apparently there is also no option to reply from the Priv hub on certain notifications.
Deal breakers? Not sure yet. Doesn't fill me with confidence though. Other issues I've heard of range from it feeling very 'beta' like, which is kind of understandable given the mash of BB and Android for the first time and generally a little laggy. But I am taking all of this with a pinch of salt until I try it for myself.

I'm still holding onto the fact it's an exciting device with a lot of good things to offer on paper and for the loyal BB fan within me!

I think the best way to look at the priv is not from someone who likes BB10 but as someone who is used to android or iOS

With the specs and hardware, the Priv is as good as any other flagship android, and if your coming from android, even the limited Hub currently will make the experience so much nicer
but from bb10? I love my passport, but app support ruins everything about it. I love the hub but there is no way BB can integrate it the someway into android. for someone who really likes the bb10 system, the priv will feel like 1 step back but 2 steps forward (finally can have snapchat). Also, since BB's apps are upgradable at anytime by bb through the play store, it makes the experience that much nicer

Just a quick update. All carphonewarehouse orders for UK have been pushed back a week to the 13th Nov. Seems blackberry didn't send the stock in time or there's been some sort of problem with distribution at their end.

CPW text out to all people who had preordered advising of the week delay and offering a £5 voucher on their account. Clever from them, as you can't buy anything for £5 in their store ha, so they're making more money at the end of the day!

So someone else who gets one outside of UK will probably end up being able to post some thoughts and stuff which I'd gladly up whilst I wait. Not patiently!

Blackberry hasn't learned yet how to launch a phone. Orders directly through them ship tomorrow so you don't receive until after launch date, none of them. Probably swing by At&t tomorrow and check it out and decide then, I am intrigued as 6S+ is my phone, but have Passport as work phone.

so a few things to note: a lot of review note that there is a lag and/or heating issue w/ the phone. BB has already released an update that you would update through the google play store (like another app) to rectify most performance issues. So keep that in mind when you read these. Personally, if you want a keyboard this is the phone to get. if you dont care about ta keyboard its not worth it

Why is their Twitter account excitedly linking to reviews that call the phone mediocre and give it 6/10 or 7/10?
Are they actually proud of this?
"Congrats guys, we finally made a 'meh' phone instead of an 'blah' phone!"

I saw the heating issue in a review on technoBuffalo, but nothing about lag. Also Android Central seemed to really like it. I completely disagree with the idea that it's for people that want a keyboard, and not worth it for people who don't. It looks like to me Blackberry added features that are actually useful for android, and could add a lot to the experience. I think this phone is better than a lot of people thought.

I agree...it's a pretty damn compelling device IMO. Even with the hardware keyboard, it's a pretty small footprint and not excessively thick. It's a nice size display yet significantly shorter in size vs. the 6P. I really like the ability to use the keyboard as a track pad (love this feature on both my iPhone 6S+ and iPad Air 2) as well as the keyboard gestures. Also has a huge battery and expandable storage.

It's a little pricy when compared to the Nexus phones but the pricing doesn't seem unreasonable when compared to Galaxies, for example.

I'm not in the market for another phone but it has my curiosity.

Yep agree with all that. I think the price is some what justified. I don't think any smartphone should cost more than $400, but that is not the market we live in. This phone has just as good build quality as any Samsung, and has way better features than anything Samsung brings. I will not be buying one because I love my iPhone 6S, but if I was in the market for an android this one be the one. I really think Blackberry is coming back with this phone. Not saying this is going to sell millions, just that they are back to making great phones. This is one of the best androids of the year. Wish I could afford two phones, but that isn't happening.

I hope the double typing issue of the past few physical keyboard devices doesn't turn up. I had it in my Q10 and the Passport.
I won't be buying one. Been burned by Blackberry one too many times.

This.

It's something new and different and by the sounds of those who got it, its delivering fairly well.

The only review that was negative was Engadget's, but the writer, Daniel Cooper, was extremely biased and clueless, as far as they are concerned if it aint an iPhone its crap.

I think you nailed it....if you want to have a physical keyboard then this is the phone for you.
I think it is the only OEM offering with a physical keyboard.

Android Central review was glowing and their podcast was very interesting too.

It really does seem like a fascinating phone, I would be interested once the price drops or if it makes it to a version 2.

MRU you have got to pick this phone. We need your review of it. Have you ever thought about starting your own YouTube channel? I think you could have great success.

It's in the works, just normal job has been very busy lately so I'm chasing my tail at the moment :). Definitely going to keep an eye out for the Priv. No carriers are going to be carrying it here so its a little more difficult to try and get one, so will have to import when it's dropped in price a little :)

Oh ok well you need to let us all know when you get that up and going. I would love to be able to do it, but I am just not that talented.

I am very interested in your thoughts on the Priv.
