Good news for those looking for a hands on and user review of the Priv - my device is arriving tomorrow. I ended up ordering from Selfridges here in the UK who have ample stock. So much for carphonewarehouse exclusively selling it ha.

I would have it sooner if I went into the store for it but it's all the way down in London and there is nothing that will make me get a train (an £80 train, may I add) just to wade through hoards of people on the streets and in the store to buy this thing. Though I'm not ashamed to admit the force was strong!

I'm currently a 6S user and I can see there being temptations to move over to the Priv full time but I will make that decision in he coming days / weeks. There are a lot of people experiencing early issues such as the device running hot when using casually, but strangely cool when performing heavier tasks like watching videos and playing games.

Others have had no trouble at all so I guess a lot of it depends on that too.

Either way, keep your eyes pealed tomorrow for some pics, early impressions and maybe some 6S comparison shots! I will 'review' the device too. Can't promise it will be MRU quality ;p but I'll give it my best shot.

Thanks guys!
I've been reading reviews all day. Read a glowing review earlier on recombu, those guys didn't experience any issues what so ever and gave it 5 stars. Said it was a fantastic Android experience.

Even the less positive reviews have been fair apart from one or two.
The biggest concern is that the device has just come 4 years too late. I kinda agree to an extent.

Yeah that has to be the biggest issue and the fact that it's price and limited availability with carriers or even sim free availability globally may mean it just won't gain the traction it deserves if it was fully backed by carriers globally and available subsidised.

It looks a great piece a kit, but being great doesn't equate to being successful sadly.

If only blackberry had switched to Android when the Z10/Q10 were released we may be looking at an entirely different situation.

Looks like the Priv will be coming out for Verizon soon as well:

http://www.theverge.com/mobile/2015/11/7/9689430/blackberry-priv-verizon-wireless-coming-soon
It looks like AT&T won't have a domestic exclusive on the BlackBerry Priv after all. Verizon Wireless has hinted on Twitter that it, too, will offer the keyboard-equipped Android phone to its customers.

So I went to the AT&T store yesterday to play with the Priv. As a display unit, it was of course useless on the actually-using front -- it boots, then turns off immediately. I suspect it's battery ran out, since it's not connected to any power.

Anyhow, the screen looks fantastic from what I saw of the boot-up sequence -- it's clearly using AMOLED and I love the true blackness of the display. But that's all I can say about the display and the software side.

As for the device, it feels solid, has a good feel in the hand, and the slider has a satisfying feel when moving up and down. It's surprisingly thin for a slider -- thinner than my iPhone 4s (not the best comparison I know, but that's what I have right now, so buzz off :D).

The most surprising part, though, is that the keyboard... doesn't feel that great. From playing with the keyboard for a few seconds, t's difficult to hit just one key, and it doesn't have a satisfying click when typing on it. I wish I could play with the touch-enabled parts of the keyboard -- that might very well be its redemption.

I know there's not much here, but just thought I'd share.

So I actually got the phone on Friday from att and canceled my pre order through BlackBerry.

Last 3 phones I've owned are the iPhone 6s +, one plus two, and galaxy note 5 so I've used most of the best phones you can buy aside from the nexus 6p.

I've been using as my daily since I bought it. If you want me to do a quick review or first impressions let me know!

alright ill go ahead and post a review. This may end up being longer than I want so skip to the TL;DR at the end.

First a bit of background- I've used every generation of iPhone, most android flagships ever (starting with the original G1/2), a couple W7/8 phones, and a lot of blackberry's too. I own a macbook, iPad, apple tv so Im a heavy apple user.

Design: First thing you'll notice is the curved display that is not as curved as the s6 edge but still noticeable (and with less screen distortion than the s6). The large front facing speaker seems like it will be very loud but only the left half is the speaker, other half is the microphone. Its loud but not HTC M7/8/9 loud. When you pick it up you'll notice first how its not a light phone, heaver than the 6s+, but its still not too heavy. Its a "premium" sort of heft it you want to call it that. The back is made of this carbon fiber/weve that is soft touch like the nexus 5 so its not slippery. What will stand out is the thinness of the Priv. The one plus two is a thicker phone yet has a smaller battery. Let that soak in for a minute: the Priv, with a larger battery (3400 mah) and keyboard is thinner than a phone with a smaller battery and no keyboard. The screen is qHD but if feels a bit white washed ( I like saturated screens) but you can change the calibration which is nice. This isn't some half inch thick sidekick, its a legit premium phone that is worth the $700

Rest of the hardware: It has a microsd slot that pairs with an onboard 32gb of storage. I think 32gb is fine for me and most people but if you want more, you can add to your hearts desire. The power button is on the left side which I found weird at first but after a bit I got over it (its not as bad as the HTC power button on top). Also the double tap to wake/slide open keyboard help even out the power button location.

Keyboard: The defining feature to this phone is the keyboard. The layout is the same as legacy bb devices so its not new or surprising. The keyboard, because it has to fit under a screen, is thinner than what you'd find on an older BB. Its not bad, but just different. Best analogy I can think of is to compare the new macbook keyboard to the older macbook ones. Its thinner, the keys click less, but after a bit you get used to it and life moves on. Its the same way, the Priv keyboard is thinner with less travel but you get used to it (it took me like a couple hours) and eventually you'll be hammering away. The touchpad function is really nice as well since you can scroll through messages or anything really without covering up space. if you double tap the keyboard the text selection window pops up, if you swipe back it delete the word, if you swipe up it picks a predicted word, if you swipe down it brings up a symbols menu on screen. Thats a whole lot of new functionality brought to something that many think is out of date. Overall, if you like a physical keyboard or want one, then the keyboard on this will be great. it'll take some getting used to just like any other PKB but eventually after muscle memory you'll be a better typer.

Software: So first of all, you'll have to update the pre-installed blackberry apps. If you dont manually, then it will eventually prompt you to. Once you have updated the apps, the performance issues or heating issues seen in most reviews is pretty much gone. It still gets warm, but as warm as any other phone. It doesn't lag anymore or less than any other flagship. it runs mostly stock with a few bb features but Ill discuss that in a second. The 5.1.1 isn't a big issue to me, and shouldn't be an issue for anyone since theres only 2 phones, both of which are not the easiest to buy, that ship with 6.0. Bb has said that they will update to 6.0 in the upcoming months. But the bb apps can be updated through the play store at any point so that really is a huge plus not many phones can attest to at this point. BB kept the ability to customize notifications so you can set whatever LED color you want for an app or customize it anyway you want (ex: 1 vibrate 2 rings green LED for email and 2 vibrate 1 ring, blue LED for sms) all in the BB settings.

Camera: Im not a camera guy. the FFC is 2mp which is poor and not sure how that ended up in the phone. But its usable. If you require HD selfies then you probably shouldn't buy this phone. The back camera is as good as any other camera I've used. iPhone obviously has everything beat when it comes to how quickly and easy it is to take an amazing photo but the Privs camera holds up well to the competition

Battery: the battery is pretty good, its not gonna last you a week but with heavy use will get you through the day. without wifi, only LTE I'm getting 4.5-5.5 hours SOT, and with wifi it jumps up an hour. Im running 2 exchange accounts set to push, subscribed calendar and other notifications.

Perspectives:
Iphone: If you are coming from an iPhone, then the overall experience will be similar to what any other android will give you. The hub, which adds your notifications from email, text, fb, twitter, and bbm in one spot really add to the functionality and you'll enjoy it. The multitasking screen is really really one of my favorite features. Unlike the side carousel of the iPhone, everything is laid out in boxes that adjust to your use. and everything is right there so you dont have to scroll as much to find an app if you have a lot of apps open. There is a universal search option built in like the iPhone does. The productivity edge allows you to see a peak at contacts , calendars, hub, tasks.

Android: This is going to be a similar experience that you would feel on your device your currently using. The hub like I state above will make using the phone more efficient. Only downside for now is that not all notifications are supported but thats an android problem (5.0 and above require developers to release api for notifications). The productivity edge is what a curved screen is for. Not some dumb lights or contacts like samsung did, but to actually use it to see your calendar or messages. You can adjust the height and what side you want the edge to be on. The multitasking screen is miles better than the stock carousel (as i mentioned). IF you have more than 10 apps you dont have to scroll endlessly finding an app since its all laid out. Also each app will show with a small preview of whats going on in the app. The device search will be a new function that you may or may not use. Its not on android phones currently (well at least not as implemented as the priv). Overall, you will enjoy it, and probably like the hub and productivity edge.

BB10: You'll hate it. the hub will feel watered down, the productivity edge will feel like a terrible attempt at the flow. You will love the fact you can use apps like snapchat finally. You'll love not having to side load everything and you'll forget about all the shortcomings and wonder why BB didn't switch to android earlier. you get used to the keyboard and be happy you bought the phone.

TL;DR
Its a flagship that deserves its price. The keyboard is innovative and great to use. If you want a PKB then this is the best option. If you want a flagship android its just as good as anything else. BB needed a home run here to stay alive and they really hit it out of the park with the Priv.

I know this was way too long to read but if you want a specific question answered then please ask!

Awesome! Thanks so much for the review. I feel like this is a really great android phone with great features added. Unlike Samsung and LG it seems they are adding features like Motorola that actually add good function. I think this is the phone to have along with the Nexus phone if you are on android.

Nice review! It wasn't too long at all very well done. Now your making me want a Priv :)

What is it like sliding the keyboard out? Is it an easy intuitive thing or??

MRU you have got to pick this phone. We need your review of it. Have you ever thought about starting your own YouTube channel? I think you could have great success.

Totally agree!

alright ill go ahead and post a review.

Thanks for taking the time to write the review!
I'm finding this device quite interesting.

Mine arrived about an hour ago. Way too soon to even give an opinion. The only thing I can say is that my first impressions are not very good. I'll elaborate more shortly but yeah at the minute it's not favourable.

Ok so a couple of hours in and I still can't give a review because I've only set it up and downloaded the apps that id use regularly.
But either way the phone is going back.
First thing I noticed as soon as I got it out of the box is the noise it makes. And by noise I mean the creaks. Just picking the phone up lightly and the flimsy back plate groans and creaks and pushes in to the obvious gap between the back plate and I'm guessing the battery?
It's extremely cheap feeling and just lightly pressing the phone together in one hand draws an audible 'click' out of the device. It's horrible.

Powered it up and once everything updated I opened up the notes app and started getting to grips with the keypad. This doesn't feel like a BB physical keypad. But it's new and I'm not used to it so I'd need more time.
But as I got quicker by typing random blabber, I noticed that the text wasn't keeping up with me. There were obvious letters missing in my text input. When I paid more attention to it I notice that the input isn't registering. It's more obvious on words like "all" that have a double tap of the same key. Because it's a quick succession the phone isn't registering it. I don't know what is causing that but I've disabled auto predict, word suggestion, word save, spell check and all other keyboard settings other than text input and it still does it. Processor perhaps? Android? Never had this problem on my BB10 PKB's and they include Passport, Classic and Q10.
Someone else on the Crackberry forums had these issues (keypad and creaking / clicking) and he exchanged his device and all the problems were rectified.

I have my CPW order coming tomorrow as I forgot to cancel. Thankfully with them I can open it and send it back no questions asked so I am going to open it up and see if the device has these same build / keypad issues. If so that will be the end of my Priv experience.

I'm still picking it up and playing with it now but rather than pick it up in an excited "I don't want to put this down" feeling, which I had with devices like the Passport, instead I just get annoyed at the horrible feel and disappointed that it's not what I was expecting.

Yup lol but this device has been dividing opinions of EVERYONE it would seem.
Don't get me wrong, had I not got a seemingly defective device (at least, I hope it's defective), then I know I would think favourably of it I'm sure.
But as it stands I can't even bring myself to set it up to how I'd like it because I just feel like what's the point!

Hopefully the CPW unit is much better.
What I do like though is Google Play Music. All the music from my SD card has gone over seamlessly and the music I search for and add to my playlists just automatically adds to my previously purchased library. I didn't think it'd hold a torch to Apple Music, and whilst it may not be quite as good, it's still a very good alternative and i could use it comfortably no problem.

Wow, that's the opposite of my impression of the solidness of the phone -- I found it very solid-feeling when I played with it in the AT&T store.

I do agree with the keyboard though -- it's hard to hit individual keys, and it's not easy for your fingers to find their place and feel the keys -- which defeats the point of a physical keyboard! -- but it *may* be something one'd get used to.

Well I have used a phone with a PKB more this year than I have touch keypad and that includes a Q10 for a number of months so I was ready to go on the keypad straight away. I have very small hands for a guy too (tis a shame ha) so I had no problem with the size of the keypad. The errors were not from me but purely from the PKB not keeping up. I fear that it's going to be the same for any Priv I get because I do type very quick on a PKB.
It just doesn't make sense why one would be slow and another wouldn't when they have the same internals?
But like I said, a guy over on another forum had the problem too and when he exchanged his new unit was fine. :-S

We'll see.
