I sense your doubt, however my out of box 3.1 which I upgraded to 3.1.2 is now jailbroken, kthanks.
It will work on 3.1, 3.1.1, 3.1.2... why not just upgrade to 3.1.2 now and then jailbreak? It works.... do it..

It's very complicated... you download from blackra1n.com, and click make it rain, wait 40 seconds and its done.
Not so fast. I clicked make it rain on my 3G running 3.1.2 and it just went into recovery mode and stayed there. Blackra1n just says running...
So apparently, this won't jailbreak a 3G iPhone which has been upgraded to 3.1.2. I've tried many times and it just puts the iPhone in recovery mode and does nothing.

do I need to upgrade through iTunes to 3.1.2 first and then run blackra1n....or just plug my phone in to blackra1n and it will upgrade me to 3.1.2 and jb me all in one shot??

I think I'll use this on my iPod touch to muck about first, and if I think it's worth the hassle of messing with my 3GS for then I will. Ain't had a jailbroken device for a long time, and I'm starting to miss the customisation and everything.
Im having the program crash on me as soon as I click to make it ra1n. Both on my Windows 7 virtual machine and my actual windows xp machine.
Had the same issue with it crashing on a Windows 7 standalone machine. Took it over to a Vista machine and it worked fine.

This will work for 3.1.2 iPhone 3g however the 3g is the most flakey of the family that he released. Just keep trying different things / repeating what you are doing and it will eventually work.
If you wish to unlock, please realized this is NOT providing you with the ability to unlock. That being said, I am not sure any more if a unlock will EVER be released again...
Sorry for the dumbness... But so you have to run through iTunes? Does it need to be in recovery mode? Alls I want is the jailbreak so does this mean I won't lose signal etc etc? I'm in work at the moment so havnt done anythin yet. Thanks oh and I have a 3gs on 3.1 unbroken.

You shouldn't have network problems if you just jailbreak and don't mess with the baseband (unlock), no.
Just done this on my first gen iPod touch, worked great! Backgrounder is what I need in my life, especially on my powerhouse 3GS!
