Oh, one question before I go ahead on my 3GS: if I need to, can I restore the iPhone to the original firmware (unjailbroken) and have no effects show? So the software on the phone is completely stock/virgin?

Anonyone else having problems with Backgrounder on a Blackra1ned 3GS 3.1.2?

So apparently, this won't jailbreak a 3G iPhone which has been upgraded to 3.1.2.:( I've tried many times and it just puts the iPhone in recovery mode and does nothing.

keep tryin Kitty..on some other sites the 3g is the tough one....some have had to try 4 or 5 times before it worked.....from what i read most have to completely restore...not just update....good luck.

upgrade

can someone help me with the answer to this please?

Thanks in advance!

3.1.2 though I tunes then blackra1n very simple! I will add I just tried Categories with mine and on 3.1 it adds folders but leaves all the apps on the phone as well. :( making it pretty useless for now.

yikes..thats no good...but im sure the Cydia repos will be doing some updating apps real soon now.

Is it just me or is it not possible to install SBSettings via Cydia at this moment?

EDIT: Although the installation process in Cydia hung my iPhone (I think it said something about a directory not found or something), when I manually restarted the phone SBSettings was installed and seems to be working fine... (?)

Try to go into SBSettings and make sure the apps are set to "hide". That should solve your problem.

I just did this on my 3GS, all seemed to go normally, but when the iPhone booted up again the blackra1n app didn't show up on the homescreen... What's happened?

I am running Parallels with WinXP on SL and Blackra1n would keep crashing... I borrowed my brothers WinXP PC and it worked on my never before jailbroken 3GS w/ 3.1.2 perfectly!

Question: I update, synch etc on my mac but have a windows machine. Could I update to 3.1.2 on my mac and then download and do the jailbreak from the windows side?

I only ask, cause I looked at the above directions linked and it looked like itunes had to be open or such?

Guess I could give it a go with my son's 2g :D

was just about to ask this same question

Restoring now... have to admit, i'm a little nervous, haha. First restore i've done. Been on JB 3.0 (redsnow). Downloading 3.1.2...

Question. I ran blackra1n on my old 2G. It worked. Problem is, blackra1n doesn't hacktivate. So now my phone is jailbroken and unlocked, I can even receive calls. I just can't use the phone, I only get the "Slide for emergency" screen. How do I manually "hacktivate" my iPhone? It should be easy I think, but I have no idea how.

I was jb'd running 3.01. I made a backup in iTunes, upgraded to 3.1.2 in iTunes, stopped iTunes, ran blackra1n (run as XP SP3 under Windows7, 32 bit), reinstalled Cydia, biteSMS (beta), 3G Unrestrictor (purchased version), MyWi, RockApp, Intelliscreen, etc.

The only 'issue' I've seen is with RockApp. Every time I start it, it keeps telling me it's detected an inconsistency with installed packages and asks if I'd like to reinstall all apps. I did this once and it reinstalls all the same apps Cydia did. Plus Cydia thinks MyWi is at a backlevel release.

My guess is MyWi need upgraded to support 3.1.2 correctly. I uninstalled MyWi until they get this straightened out which resolved the Cydia problem.

Thanks for answering all my other questions... Just one more to ask, when I install blackrain, will I lose all my apps etc? If so, what do I do to prevent this? Thanks in advance...

Your apps got from the iTunes store will be restored as part of the process. To restore Cydia apps, before running the blackra1n process go to cydia> Search: aptbackup. Install and follow this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7ZFa_ClMqk&feature=related

That's because you don't RTFM.

Just like purplera1n, blackra1n is a jailbreaking tool.
