Not so fast. I clicked make it rain on my 3G running 3.1.2 and it just went into recovery mode and stayed there. Blackra1n just says running...

This happened to me as well... The first time it got to "done, wait for reboot" but it never rebooted.. just froze. Second time it went to "Running" and froze.. Third time, "done, wait for reboot", never reboots...

Sweet! 3GS 3.1.2 successfully took on first try, about 5 min including installing Cydia and updates. For the faint of heart, it seems you can't go wrong.

not going to lie. i am very nervous about this. i only used my 3G S with out a jailbreak for 1 1/2. so i dont know how to use the phone without it :(. i used purplera1n so im sure GEO know what he doing. still nervous tho... lol

JBing worked perfectly on my 3GS with 3.1.2!

I only would love to get tethering back working as it did with 3.0. I wonder if I have to downgrade for this, or if some kind of Cydia app can do the same thing.

well i know im giving play by play here. but now im finally updating my 3G S to 3.1.2. now i have to sit at work with just my iphone now. losing tethering is going to suck. sitting on the 8th floor i get kick ass reception so 3g speeds are beautiful. well, was beautiful lol.

Success!!!

It takes longer to upgrade to 3.1.2 then it does to jailbreak! Word of advice...DO NOT touch anything until the iPhone reboots ON ITS OWN! Leave the POP UPS ALONE. Still checking all my jailbreak apps...some seem a little finicky and will need updates. Categories is acting weird and some images in SB settings are abstract. But still checking so will update in a little bit.

Restore, Jailbreak and install of all data went without a hitch!!! Great job Geo!!! Already sent him a 5 spot donation.

3.1 and above breaks tethering using carrier update

PDANet is what most seem to be using. Check Cydia for it.

My 3gs on 3.1.2 is stuck on edge. I am new to JB is there something I am missing. I jailbroke in edge and then turned on 3g. Could this be the problem?

Edit: fixed with reboot.

so, i'm getting frustrated... i've tried to JB w/ Blackra1n 5 or 6 times now, and it keeps doing one of those two things.

iTunes keeps trying to pop up after the "rebooting" part comes up, i've turned off all the auto updating options.. is that normal?
EDIT- i solved the iTunes issue, it no longer pops up period.... but when i run blackra1n, i still get no reboot!

EDIT2-SUCCESS

Thanks! If possible I would rather go to 3.0 again... now that the JB is out, somewhere should be procedures popping up to restore 3.0...

PDANet seems to use WiFi, which I would rather not use. Apples solution in 3.0 was much nicer of course. So, I am looking forward to a downgrade.

how does this effect the dev team at all? i had my ICED # or what ever it is hashed with cydia, if i want i can still downgrade to 3.0 right?

i dont really care for unlock.

Do you have your ECID SHSH on file with Saurik? If not, downgrade's probably not going to be an option. Besides, what's wrong with Wi-Fi? It's faster than USB, and battery life issues can be prevented by just plugging in your iPhone.

so i updated to 3.1.2, then i ran blackra1n, now i didnt disconnect from itunes but now after blackrain rebooted itunes is backing up my phone but it is taking freakin for ever. did i mess something up here?

All is well now for me I got the program to work and it worked perfectly. Can't wait till later when I have time to go through everything.

So, I just tried using Blackra1n and my phone sat in recovery mode after iTunes popped up. Doing restore now (just bought the 3GS yesterday and updated to 3.1.2). Should I try again? Am I doing something wrong? I'm trying to make it rain on Vista

Categories

UPDATE on Blackra1n and jailbroke apps...I had to completely uninstall Categories and then reinstall. Cydia would not download it properly so installed from RYP and I am back in business.

Also had to reinstall SBsettings to fix a missing file that did not reinstall from backup.

So far that is all to report...still testing, more to follow.

For some reason I also have to keep typing in my Visual Voicemail password after a respring. It keeps it until resetting the springboard. Can't figure it out...yet

For your voicemail problem. Dial 661 from your phone. Then if I remember right its option 3 option 3 to reset your voicemail password. If you listen to the promts you can get there. That should fix that issue.

Been trying to make this work all day on my 3GS and I now officially give up. I'll wait for the Mac version and try again then.

Anonyone else having problems with Backgrounder on a Blackra1ned 3GS 3.1.2?

Backgrounder, SBSettings not working for me so far, the two things I really wanted. 3GS/3.1. may update to 3.12 after a restore, try again, and this time, not install ICY, only Rock and Cydia.

Is it just me or is it not possible to install SBSettings via Cydia at this moment?

EDIT: Although the installation process in Cydia hung my iPhone (I think it said something about a directory not found or something), when I manually restarted the phone SBSettings was installed and seems to be working fine... (?)

Yup, SBSettings no work for me.

Hey I'm running Vista...Finally downloaded and updated to 3.1.2 using a 3GS. Followed all instructions and when I press make it rain, it just sends it to recovery mode. What am I doing wrong?
