I'm curious, how did this go on your 3.0 dh?

edit; i see that you have not ran it yet. ;)

can you explain the exact steps you did to get cydia on your 3g. seems like there is a lot of 3g users like me who are stuck on "running" phone never jailbreaks.

Just installed Cydia on my 3G...worked great.

Can you send me step by step of what you did. Because I have a 8GB 3G running the official 3.1.2, I have Windows XP running the current iTunes version, and I cannot seem to get BlackRa1n to work. I have tried more than 10 times. Thank you for your help in advance.

I'm stuck on "running" What's supposed to be happening? I run blackra1n, says it found iPhone in recovery mode, then stops on "running."

I tried to use the link that was posted in the first post twice and didn't work. Then I went to iClarified and followed those steps and it worked perfect.

Yes but it is not out yet. Honestly if you wanna jailbreak on a Mac you have the Pwnge app anyways. That will allow you to at least jailbreak as well as unlocking (provided your baseband isn't updated)

You can't jaibreak with Pwnage if you've got an OTB iPhone on 3.1.x or have updated past 3.0.1. I think that's why many Mac folks would be clamoring for an OS X version.

blackra1n worked great on my Mac booted intothe Win7 RC, though. Very happy to finallly have a jailbroken iPhone back! It was so quicj, easy, and painless.

Thank you geohot!

Ug, so I jailbroke and now my device is stuck, I'm on a screen that says "Complete" and "Reload SpringBoard" but nothing's happening. And yes I did hit Respring.

iPhone 3g 16gb on O2 JB with Win7RC.

After a lot of faffing I've managed to get it to work. I had to do a complete restore to official 3.1.2 with phone set up as new then JB - struggled half way through and stuck in recovery mode, managed to get out of that, tried again and wouldn't reboot - unplugged and replugged in usb got it to finish.

Yay! Now JB.

I ran a backup of apps from RYP - but this leads to more probs - still can't get winterboard working.

Still blackra1n does work. Fantastic job geohot.

As much as I'd love to jailbreak my new 3Gs I think I might just leave the jailbreaking for the 3G at the moment.

I wonder what the variables are to cause blackra1n to either work in about 15 seconds or present a bunch of problems. I've seen a lot of posts around the interwebs where it either was quick and easy or a PITA.

For me, I just downloaded blackra1n in Win7 on my Mac, ran it, clicked "make it rain" and I was done in 15 seconds. Fastest jailbreak I've ever done. I didn't have to restore and set up as a new phone or anything, just plugged in and I was done.

So im on 3g on 3.1, should i update to 3.1.2 first before i JB, set up as new phone, or just leave it at 3.1 with all my stuff on it and JB?

I'm gonna stay off Jailbreaking I guess. It's causing me too many problems. And I don't think many things in Cydia work for 3.1.2. I've had to restore a fair amount of times, and at this point, I'm just gonna wait till Cydia gets upgraded.

dont use respring from SBSettings just restart your device SBSettings isnt fully compatible yet so some features don't work

I followed iClarified exact instructions never got the creepy blackra1n image on recovery and now I have to do another freaking restore to 3.1.2

Hope it works the second time around.

I kept itunes up I thought people said you needed to. Should I keep iTunes up when I run the blackra1n jailbreak or no?

:(
After reading, reading and more reading different forums/websites all morning I've decided to stick with 3.01 jailbreak with redsn0w that I have now. To many different problems out there, and I don't see the advantage of even going to 3.1x that Apple has released yet. I still hear about problems with that upgrade that haven't been resolved.
I would be lost without tethering, it doesn't look like anybody has a real good solution yet. I'll wait for benm.at to come out with one.

Everytime blackra1n takes the iphone into recovery i get the standard apple recovery screen and am forced to do an iTunes restore.

I even closed out iTunes once to see if that was the cause it was not.

I have an iPhone 3G 8GB. The second time around I didn't sync any of my stuff back just did attempted it again but still got the apple recovery screen not the creepy blackra1n one.

What steps am I missing? Im on Vista 32 bit I have the app set to run in XP compatibility mode. Im running it as administrator everything. I am following everything in the iClarified set of instructions.

Also per the images there showing no SIM I took out my sim card before starting to attempt the jailbreak. That shouldn't be the cause though should it?
