Nice post. But i think it is a little fussy.

When it was originally posted, there was no other Blu-ray rip option.

Just one tool can finish all the tasks.
I usually use Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper for Mac which can directly rip and convert blu-ray simultaneously. It can also offer u apple tv format as output format so that u can play it on your apple tv.

I see that PavTube, which you seem so fond of judging by all of your post$ about it, only outputs .mp4 for the Apple TV. No m4v?

I usually use Pavtube...

I just tried PavTube with a movie (Finding Nemo) that has an AC3 Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track. However, when I open the file generated by PavTube for the Apple TV, there's only one audio file, which is AAC. The AC3 DD track does not seem to be in the container. Can you explain how to get both AAC (track 1, default) and AC3 (track 2) into a container for the Apple TV (or any other device)?

I also just tried opening Star Trek Blu-ray Disc and PavTube locked up, requiring a forced quit.

there is just no method that is as fool proof as yours im afraid. ;)

mine goes alright, but i dont convert to appletv

I like AnyDVD HD the best, but Make MKV is catching up. With the disc image function it's right there; they just need to get the streaming server function fixed and it'll be all I need.

i use both anydvd hd and makemkv. (anydvd then palm off to makemkv). makemkv never works with the encrypted disk images, with anydvd + parallels it does.

im happy with my workflow. :)

well, did you configure the setting? set the audio codec as ac3, audio channel as 5.1, the output file should be with AC3 Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track.

What a useful thread this is!
Here I have learnt much knowledge about blu-ray ripping, such as Tsmuxer, AnyDVD HD, MakeMKV, Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper Mac.

I am going to download the freeware Tsmuxer to know more about it.

By the way, could you please tell me what exactly Tsmuxer does?
I know other three programs are used to convert between blu-ray discs and videos.

I tried PavTube on another Blu-ray disc and it froze as well (The Fifth Element). The only disc it read was a DVD (Finding Nemo). Can Pavtube put two audio tracks into a container that's compatible with the Apple TV (i.e., AAC as track 1 and default, AC3 as track 2). Can it also do the same with DTS into either m2ts, ts or mkv containers?

Stay away from Pavtube - it seems largely dysfunctional. AnyDVD HD's terms have also become a bit cumbersome, so if you don't already have Windows there's not much reason to get it since MakeMKV is here.

Tsmuxer demuxes/muxes ts and m2ts streams. I only used it for its ability to extract AC3 DD or DTS cores from the HD audio.

I have been using MakeMKV since they started supporting BD+, and it's perfect. I have had 100% success rate with all BD and regular DVDs I have ripped (about 100+ probably at this point).

There is simply no need for anything other than MakeMKV, if you're on MacOS.

What filesystem is compatible between Mac and PS3 Linux for blu-ray ripping. I'm planning on getting an external blu-ray drive but I need to save, in the meantime the last time I had to go PS3 > Windows > Mac because of filesystem constraints but would NTFS 3G work? And I know this is probably early to ask but do we think that we would manage to rip and convert 3D Blu-Ray's for Apple TV?

With SMB sharing you can go from PS3 > Mac, you don't need to go Windows first..

There's a thread in this forum floating around about how to configure the PS3 to dump the ISO to a share folder on the Mac end... I set it all up and it works likes a charm, BUT, I was running into issues getting MakeMKV on my Mac to convert the ISO that Anydvd HD created.. so I finally had to pick up an external blu-ray drive...

SMB is PATHETIC. use SFTP :D much more reliable

Can you please elaborate on how AnyDVD's terms have changed?

I don't yet own either program, but I do see occasional posts that MakeMKV is still less advanced than AnyDVD in tricky decryption situations.

I only used it a year or more ago as a trial, but at one time they were planning to start selling it with annual licenses of $50 per year.

Yes, MakeMKV still has shortcomings, but they're rapidly closing the gap with AnyDVD HD. Principally, the lack of decrypting the disc on-the-fly (i.e., without need for ripping) is a feature that AnyDVD HD has that rules. Unfortunately, that's only under Windows environment. If MakeMKV can get its streaming server issues resolved, that issue will also go away.

makemkv NEVER works for me with my encrypted .iso files taken from my playstation. why is that? i need to send it to anydvd hd through parallels to create another iso.

DoF, I asked that same question on the MakeMKV forum because everything was working great, PS3 > Mac, fire up VMFusion and feed the PS3 created ISO to Anydvd HD..

Buuuut, the problems start when I take that ISO created by Anydvd HD and feed it to MakeMKV. MakeMKV would constantly crash and come up with "Fatal Errors"..

I asked over at the MakeMKV forums and they said that it's because it's not reading directly from the disc... sure enough I went out and purchased an external blu ray drive to test it out, ran the same disc that I had an ISO of through MakeMKV and it went right through without a hitch..

hey FSU. i always get that error after putting the iso into makemkv (from anydvd). it comes up but it still works! i have no idea how mine still works.. and i just click "ok" and away i go converting to mkv. :)

Okay, I see your point. But realistically, all these programs will need to have some sort of ongoing revenue stream to support their continued development. The studios seem to enjoy implementing more and more idiotic copy protection schemes. The companies seem to enjoy the challenge of cracking those schemes.

We wind up paying for this lunacy.

Hi, guys,
BD+ is a technology used to prevent unauthorized copies of Blu-ray discs and the playback of Blu-ray media using unauthorized devices, which is more powerful than the former AACS protections.
as you said: MakeMKV supporting BD+, but, what about the version of MKB V12?
100% success? Is that mean all of your Blu-ray discs were protected by BD+(< MKB V12)? :)

DoF, I'm going to try it out later because now I can't remember if MakeMKV closes by itself or if I manually close it after the error pops up, but if I can just "ignore" that message and still have it convert that would be the solution to my dilemma...

So, how do you decrypt the key? I've got an old disc from 2008 (Sleeping Beauty) that MakeMKV can't manage to decrypt, I found a key online but it doesn't seem to be working (wrong region maybe)

It's an iso made with the PS3 and dd.
