I'm running XP Home with bootcamp and it works a treat on my 17'' MBP with 1gB of ram...I was thinking of trying Vista RC1 as an upgrade over XP as you have done...can you tell me if the Vista Aero engine runs with 1gB of ram?

The graphics card should determine whether Aero will work, and I think you are in good shape.

You will also need to download and install the Intel 5000X Chipset Utiility.

Can you tell me why?
I have seen no mention of this in any bootcamp thread despite a search.
I know reading this and a few other threads that I need to upgrade the ati video drivers for Vista but what is the Intel utility for?

There is no need to upgrade from XP to Vista. Vistas' installation went very smooth on my Mac Pro.

The reason I asked this is because despite only having installed bootcamp/XP last weekend...in that time I have transferred a lot of documents from my XP desktop PC and the thought of deleting the XP partition and starting over with the Vista install and having to go through that transferring routine again is
depressing...any idea if going the "upgrade" route rather than a fresh install would preserve my documents?
Thanks.

If you get an option to do an Upgrade in the setup program than it would not delete your documents. Even a new install, without formatting, should preserve them.

But do have a backup of them!

ACPI BSOD during boot to Vista RC1 Install Disc

I have seen where several other MacBook Pro owners where able to install Vista with minimal problems. Helping me just boot to the disc would be tremendious.

Everytime I boot to the Vista RC1 Install disc, I receive the ACPI Blue Screen referencing non-compliant BIOS. I know the MacBook Pro doesn't use BIOS and runs of off EFI, however, I have seen in several forums where deleting the EFI partition was not necessary in order to complete the Vista install.

Any suggestions so that I can at least boot to the disc would be most helpful.

BTW...I am not able to boot to the Vista Disc using Parallels either...same ACPI BSOD. Burn a new disc maybe? Has any one else had this problem???

When you are booting to the Vista CD you are able to do that due to the Intel CSM added to the EFI. This adds a compatability layer that translates EFI calls to BIOS calls and vice versa. So the CD thinks there is a BIOS. As to why you are getting that ACPI message, both natively and in Parallels is really strange. I have not run across that yet in reading forums.

Good luck

The audio drivers may have some problems, but easily correctable.

Can you tell me how to get sound?
I installed Vista as an upgrade over XP (installed with bootcamp) on my Macbook Pro and downloaded the ati video drivers so the display is okay...although where do you find the "Aero" setting for the display?
Anyway my bluetooth Kensington mouse is working, the isight camera isn't...not too bothered about that...but I have no sound...any ideas how to get this working please?

I got shot of Vista...looks pretty but doesn't do anything for me I couldn't already do with XP, I deleted the partition using bootcamp and re-installed XP.

No solution to the MacPro/SATA performance problem from this update. I reinstalled evething on my MP 3,0/X1900/3 500Gb Hds/3Gb RAM and my drive was PIO again :-(

I did the fimware updates then updated to 1.1.1, made a new driver disk booted to the xp side and installed the new drivers.. all went pretty smoth and my 500g drive is no longer in PIO mode..

Only problem im still having is with the 23" display, some times I have to reboot a couple times to get the display to work correctly.. (it comes up black screen... I can hear the windows sounds.. and if I remember all the quick keys I can run stuff but...)

Install WinACD and set your monitor driver to this.

Speakers still play

Hi,

I had boot camp 1.0.2 (I think) previously and installed v1.1.1 yesterday. I burned a new drivers disk and installed the mac drivers on xp. Unfortunately, the speakers still play when I plug headphones in. Do I have to reinstall the drivers? If I do, will I need to uninstall them first, then reinstall?

Thanks!

Problems

Hi,

I have a 15" Macbook Pro and I don't know if the problems I am experiencing has to do with boot camp or windows. But I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing?

1. The headphone jack only works sometimes. If I'm lucky, it will work, otherwise its still facing the same problems before v1.1.1. When it doesn't work the light is on and when I plug headphones in, the speakers still play.

2. I have to enter my password before starting up Windows but sometimes the keyboard nor the mousepad works. I have to plug in an external USB mouse to restart the computer.

Is there something that can remedy the situation without reinstalling?

Thanks.

Does anyone know if you use the Windows XP OEM version (home and/or pro) with bootcamp? Thanks!

Many people have done exactly that, but this doesn't seem like the appropriate thread for further discussion.

B

Thanks for the answer. Where would be the best place for further discussion, then? I just followed the discussion link from the macrumors news article about bootcamp, and haven't really ventured into the main section of the forums. I guess I'll go take a look, now
