I returned 12.9 but it was easily the better one. I can't stomach paying more than 500 for an ipad though because it's so limited. Definitely not worth 1.3k plus. That's insane. For that money, get a Surface Pro as it's much more capable.

The same here.

As I wrote in another thread: "I don't work with the iPad. It is just for media consumption and browsing – for this the 12.9 is for me not worth the money at all!"

Media consumption and artistry is a plus for me. Games and apps also appear to run very smooth when I tried one out at the Apple Store. I could also see a positive difference in speed when swiping through the home screen.

So it is a fact now right ? I was always perplexed with the question what do Apple stores in U.S do with so many customers returning open boxes units of the iPads ? so here it is, they all go to be sold as refurbished products is it ??

A store like Best Buy will sell it at a discount as an open box or return. Not sure I have ever seen an open box or returned option to purchase with Apple....so most likely would get looked over to make sure it is all good, if not fixed then sold as refurbished.

It’s still a tablet, just not a very portable one (for me). Which is a shame. I really liked that display.

I don't see it as any less portable than the 11 inch. You still need a case. You still need a bag. So you may need a bag that's a bit bigger and a case that's a big bigger, but it's not any less portable. It is more hefty when using it in bed, but the extra screen space is worth it for me.

My niece got the 12.9 since she is going off to college and is also an amazing artist, so the pen is great for her. This will be her college computer and I think the debate boils down to how you use whatever size you are considering. If it is going to substitute for a laptop, then the larger size with a folio/keyboard is the way to go, especially if you are using the pen and SW like Affinity.

On the other hand while I have a desktop iMac Pro and a Mac Pro 13" laptop, I picked up the new 11" for portability and those times when I don't need the Big Boys, especially when traveling and "off-duty", something bigger than my iPhone is handy. In the end it really is a personal choice based on how you will be using it, and what other devices you may (or may not) have, as well as what SW you will be running on it.

One of my use cases is walking around the classroom with my iPad (am an elementary school teacher). With my 9.7” iPad Pro, I was able to do that for hours on end with no signs of fatigue. The 12.9” iPad Pro ended up being too bulky for me to do this comfortably.

I also found that I was using it less everywhere else save on the desk. The larger size simply wasn’t comfortable for me.

I should have kinda expected that, but I was hoping the reduced bezels might help with the whole portability aspect. It did help, just not by very much.

Live and learn, I suppose.

iPad Pro 12.9 feels comically big when using on my Couch like i mostly do. I will send it back and use my 10.5 Pro for another year.
I am only missing Face ID so its Not worth for me To Upgrade to the iPad Pro 11.

You might want to give it some time, if you haven’t already. You do adjust to the size over a few days of using it. I thought that at first but now that I’m more used to the size I love having all that screen real estate. The major bonus is how easy the Apple folios are to remove, so I use naked if I’m not moving, which is really nice.

Same here, bought it 5 days ago and every day I get more used to it and love that screen more and more  And I also love to remove the Folio when it makes sense — such a nice experience without the cover

I have tried it for 2 days but everytime i Go back to my 10.5 its so much nicer for Handheld Mode. Its like the First iPad, i hated the weight and i Loved when the iPad Air was Released. Anything Abo e 500g is to much for me i Think.

People should remember what they loved about the first tablets, being able to hold them in their hands and do simple fun things.

I just wish i could walk into a Apple store and a Best Buy, and find an iPad that did not have a keyboard attached, so i could just feel the iPad in my hand.

I returned my 2018 12.9" because I didn't like the screen-feel when using the Pencil. The screen is supposedly glass but it has a surprising amount of flexing, particularly towards the centre. To me it seems like a plastic screen.

Another casualty in Apple's quest for ultimate thinness and lightness.

Having had the miserable 12.9" iPad Pro (first gen), I got the 11" this time around. MUCH better for casual use (which is what I got it for since I have a 15" MacBook Pro to do serious work on). It is just about as much tablet as I would want to carry around. Especially with the keyboard folio case. While the 12.9" is much easier to hold than the last one, it is still too burdensome if you don't need an iPad as your main computing device. If you don't have a laptop, then I'd get the 12.9" if you are going to spend most of your day looking at it. The 11" is a bit small to serve that duty (at least for me).

I love my 11" Pro's form factor.

Boggles the mind they don't have a split keyboard mode for these iPads. I would use it all the time with the mini but some apps didn't play nice with it, probably because it isn't a universal feature. I have trouble typing with the 11" in portrait mode, I imagine it would be impossible for me with the 12".

This feature doesn't work on the iPad Pros? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207521

I ordered both the new 12.9" and 11" to test them out for a couple of weeks before the return window. After my test with both, I returned the 12.9" and kept the 11". Heres why:

Sit down holding - While sitting down on my couch, I found the 11" to be easier to handle. I could hold it with one hand. While the 12.9", I could not hold it in one hand for any length of time because of the weight. I had to always hold the 12.9" with 2 hands.

Vertical typing - It was near impossible to type confortably typing on the 12.9" vertically. Without split keys, I found my thumbs were strained trying to reach the middle keys. With the 11", I could type fairly comfortably holding it in the veritcal position.

Summary: With that being said, I do miss the 12.9" because of the massive screen. Watching anything on it felt like a giant TV screen. I would say if you will be using it on a desk, the 12.9" will do wonders. But if you will be holding it most of the time, I recommend the 11".

I think buying a product just to return it is abusing the system. Eventually we will lose the convenience due to abuse.

It works if you use zoom mode - I have tried it - but who wants to use zoom mode. I will be shocked if this feature isn’t added in one of the next software updates. I feel it was just an oversight.

I didn't realize that and would agree. This shouldn't be tied to zoom mode. Sounds like yet another area where iOS needs to seriously evolve if the iPad Pro is to reach its potential.

I also remember how all my friends laughed at me when I bought the first Samsung Galaxy Note. They teased me for how big it was, now most of them have 8 Pluses or XS Max’s. People wanting smaller phones ended pretty quickly.

The bottom line is you get used to the size pretty quickly. I remember when I got the 6 Plus (on delivery day) I thought it was just obscene. It was bigger than the original Galaxy Note. I left work that day fully intending to swap it out for the 6 come Monday, but by the time Monday came around I had gotten use to the size and loved it.

I diaagree. It’s not abuse if the idea is to try both form factors out in real life use before settling on one. If one bought the 12.9 and then decided it’s not for them and returned it, that’s of course exactly what the system intended. The same customer could then buy the 11 inch to see if that worked better. It’s hardly an abuse to collapse the two steps into one.

Speak for yourself. I still want a smaller phone that can be efficiently and safely operated with one hand. There is no getting used to something that just won’t fit in your hand.

People are different.

I do appreciate the bigger form for the iPad. In fact, as the iPads have grown bigger, my wish for a smaller iPhone has also grown stronger. Different devices for different uses.

You are saying retailers expect people to return items they try for a few days and decide they don't like, and that's the way the the system was intended to be used? They expect people to be fickle and return one item for another and that is to be expected as normal? I disagree.

If you purchase a car you don't have a grace period, if you purchase a house you can't return it, if you purchase a TV you don't return it because you bought two and wanted to compare. Why is this practice acceptable with computers?
