My launch-day iPhone began developing bubbles around thanksgiving. First one, then two , then three, then the fourth this weekend. I swung by my Apple store this morning and the Genius couldn't have been nicer. He told me that they are seeing more of the bubbles as of late, but they still don't know why they are forming. Policy from above is to just swap out any bubble phones with a new one on the spot. I was in and out of the store in about 10 minutes. Very impressed with this service experience.

Bubbles in Screen

I have 4 bubbles in my screen that I just recently noticed. They are along the right hand side of the screen, almost in a row. I thought that maybe it was because that is how I slide the pages up and down....on the right hand side.

I am planning on taking my to the store also.

when you swap your iphone do they transfer all your files and info over for you from your old phone to your new one?

By unlocking the phone you voided the warranty.

If the person at the Genius Bar doesn't notice you might be able to get away with it. But my coworker was turned away with a unlocked phone.

so my cousin called the apple store on my behalf about the status of fixing it if its unlocked

they told him this "since itz unlocked, ur warranty for the iphone is gone so they cant fix it for free. so they will have to charge u to replace it.
the cost of replacing it is 4GB - $199 ... 8GB - $249"

my question is if its the screens fault why is there a friggin price diff to fix it based on what hardrive of an iphone you bought...

i might as well buy a new one for that price and sell my iphone used.

Because Apple will likely just give you a refurbished phone as a replacement rather than repair the screen. One model is more valuable than the other.

That's a pretty scary issue. I'm going to be getting an iPhone soon, I'm in Canada, and of course it's gonna be unlocked.

If it ever does get bubbles, can I just make an appointment at the Apple store in the states and then get them to exchange it? Do they ask for an address or anything? Of course I'll relock it so they won't know that it was unlocked :)

Hello I would just like to add to this thread. I wasn't sure if this would be called a bubble or dust? I'm not sure what it was so here are some pics I could get of it

Pic1

And Pic2.

I have about 3 of these on my iphone.

Do you think apple will replace this?

stuff99, most of the people here FOLLOW the rules and use their iPhones properly.

As mentioned before, there are ways to RELOCK your phone, just look around. Sheesh. 80% of the people here won't be able to help you at all.

actually if you look at the sale numbers most of the people have unlocked phones.

if i bring in a relocked phone does apple really believe that I didnt activate the phone for 6 months since I purchased it.

who cares what they think...they are selling phones, not the contract. AT&T can jump off a small cliff for all I care....

I used Ziphone "refurb" feature...worked great. Took my iPhone into the Apple store today. I'm in Canada so drove to Seattle. I've never hooked it up with AT&T and they weren't going to replace the phone. I complained a little more and then spoke to the manager. She said it "had to be an AT&T activated phone to return it". So, I walked into the mall, to the AT%T kiosk, bought a $25 GoPhone SIM card, threw it in, walked back and said "there...it's AT&T".

they gave me a brand new phone...a little hassle, and some creative chatter...and I'm happy. If you have AT&T and the phone is under a year old (which all are...to this point) they'll swap it out at the store. No receipt, no real questions.

I just noticed this exact bubble problem this weekend on mine. Just one bubble so far but it's annoying. Dropping by the apples store tonight to see what they can do.

Well I visited my local apple store with a 'genius' appt. and they replaced it with only a few questions. Right away they took the phone and did a hard reset, they inspected the outer body of the phone as if to look for excessive mis-use. The genius asked me why I didn't return the phone when I purchased it (on iphone day) and I said it only showed up a few days ago which is true. I asked him if he'd seen this before and he said yes, a few of them.

He brought out the white box containing the replacement and I asked 'so is that a refurb or is it new' and he said "oh, it's new". In checking the week version it looks like this 'new' phone I have is a week 8 which seems odd. When I plugged it in and checked the about tab it said it had about 4 days use so i'm not inclined to believe this is a new phone. It is a 7 series screen. Either way I'm glad they replaced it with almost no questions asked. The iphone info on the back looks a bit blurry compared to my 1st but i'm glad the home button is solid and not loose like some friends have.
