you are all lucky cause when i took my phone to the genius, he looked at me like i was stupid and he said he had never heard of this problem before. This is the Apple store in North Point mall in Georgia.

Right now i only have a tiny bubble near the signal bars and you can see it when the phone is off and only at a certain angle when its on, but it doesnt look THAT bad. I have just heard that these things can start spreading so i wanted to get it taken care of.

Just wondering if anyone who has a UK iphone has seen this problem? Is it just a matter of time before these bubbles starts popping up on the UK iphones as well?

I have bubbles too !!!

I have two bubbles and also a yellow blur, but about the blur, I know what happened, I put my iPhone too close from the hot air vent on my car so it overheated.

well i just went to the Apple Store again yesterday and the this time they replaced my phone no questions asked. The guy told me he has seen a lot of these and even his manager had about 5 on his phone.

Even though i got a refurb, its a lot nicer than my other one. This one is a lot louder and the screen is brighter. Not much of a biggie, but my battery icon now glows when its fully charged. My other phone didnt glow.

Ok, I have this starting on my phone as well... same location on the right side, except it doesn't stretch down anywhere near as far. Perhaps it wasn't heat that caused this on your phone as it happened to mine as well... and I've baby'ed mine as best possible.

Here's my Q - should I box everything up and bring it into an apple store, or should I just bring the phone itself? If they give me a replacement, A - will they just hand me a new phone (no accessories since I just brought in the phone by itself) and B - will they have 4GB models to hand me or will I get one of the 8 GB ones? Not that I honestly care whether I get a 4 or 8, as I don't really use it as an iPod....just curious.

I also have this on both sides of my screen ... I thought it was my plastic film wearing down, but i guess it's not ...

Don't bother boxing anything up. Either walk in or make a 'genius' appointment so you can be seen right when you walk in. They'll pull out a slim, generic white box and give you a new phone. Can't say if it's a refurb or not. My exchanged phone is actually better, battery life etc.

I have two Iphones with bubbles

I am the happy owner of two iphones with air bubbles in the screen. One of them also has the blur on the right side of the screen. Besides being an incredible lack of quality control (how on earth does one person gets two flawed phones?), is the uncertainty about the new 16Gb models. Does anyone knows if this bubbles problem is absolutely fixed on the new models, or i might end up with another lemon?

Cheers

He brought out the white box containing the replacement and I asked 'so is that a refurb or is it new' and he said "oh, it's new". In checking the week version it looks like this 'new' phone I have is a week 8 which seems odd. When I plugged it in and checked the about tab it said it had about 4 days use so i'm not inclined to believe this is a new phone. It is a 7 series screen. Either way I'm glad they replaced it with almost no questions asked. The iphone info on the back looks a bit blurry compared to my 1st but i'm glad the home button is solid and not loose like some friends have.

i don't believe for a second that these white box replacements are "new." I have iPhone now, but prior i had an ipod touch and went through FOUR white box replacements (all defective with a different problem each time) before i finally demanded a new retail box.

Anyone got any objections to me using these photos on my blog? Want to do a post about the 'bubbles'.

Refurb

I just bought a refurb for $250, and it came with air bubbles (several at the top of the screen) and the battery says that its completely dead at the home screen, but on the others it shows the true battery life. What do you think apples policy is on replacing refurbs? I also don't live anywhere near an apple store, should I just call and ask them this myself or what do you guys think?

I just got my refurb iphone replaced... The guy at the store had never seen the bubbles before, and got mad at me when I complained about my new phone having a loose home button... Oh well...
they gave me a "new" week 8 phone.

Great Service

I had one bubble in the upper left near the cell bars, and brought it in to the Durham, NC store. The geniuses were very polite and without my urging said the best thing to do was replace it. They gave me a new phone and were very polite and efficient.

The bubble didn't seem like a huge deal to me, and I didn't care whether they replaced it or not, but I went from having a near perfect phone to having a perfect one.

Apple continues to exceed all my expectations in customer service.

You should have said that you just opened it. It won't work now, since someone might remember you.

Or find a friend with an activated one and borrow his sim card.

who cares what they think...they are selling phones, not the contract. AT&T can jump off a small cliff for all I care....

I used Ziphone "refurb" feature...worked great. Took my iPhone into the Apple store today. I'm in Canada so drove to Seattle. I've never hooked it up with AT&T and they weren't going to replace the phone. I complained a little more and then spoke to the manager. She said it "had to be an AT&T activated phone to return it". So, I walked into the mall, to the AT%T kiosk, bought a $25 GoPhone SIM card, threw it in, walked back and said "there...it's AT&T".

they gave me a brand new phone...a little hassle, and some creative chatter...and I'm happy. If you have AT&T and the phone is under a year old (which all are...to this point) they'll swap it out at the store. No receipt, no real questions.

didnt the phone have to be activated via itunes or can you just throw any at&t sim card in there? Did you relock your phone before you went back to the apple store?

According to an Apple rep, you can. When you do it, you just have to select pay as you go he said.

Also, does anyone know if they ask for all your info? Like, name, SSN, etc. when you're trying to activate the pay as you go.

any reports of the newer batches of iphone having this bubble problem btw?
Yes, my week 15 (of 2008) iPhone has this in the bottom right on the iPod icon. Actually, if you tilt the phone a few degrees, you'll see the bubbles. I'm planning to go to the apple store soon to get it replaced, but the genius didn't give me an updated receipt on my last exchange since it was an AT&T phone.

By the way, my last iPhone was jailbroken but restored and they replaced it. As mentioned before, the warranty isn't dependent on the contract.

Just a quick question, checking my warranty online gives me an error: "Our records indicate that this product has been replaced. Please provide your product's replacement serial number to find its support and warranty coverage information." will they still replace it? I signed the "work papers" but since I don't have a new receipt, or a warranty due to it being replaced, I'm doubting they'll replace it.
