I agree. The question I would ask over if you should buy now is if you think the extra space the 12.9 offers would be beneficial for your use case.

Both of the current iPad pros are amazing devices.

I wouldn’t expect more/cheaper storage, considering that Apple actually raised the price of the 256 and 512 iPad Pros after release.
Wow really? I'm glad I got my 512gb lte when I did then.

I’m wondering what they will add to the iPad next year. I want to upgrade my air 2 to whatever it is, but want more than a processor upgrade.
We already know. Slimmer bezels,no home button,faceId,A11X
Apple pencil 2 with airpower support

Similar to the iPhones, I would expect the listed features to appear in a separate (and more expensive) model, complementing the lineup.

Think how i feel, I'm still using an ipad mini 2 with a cracked screen and broken home button! Was going to upgrade to the 10.5" ipad pro last summer, but didn't. I figured i'd wait for the radical bezel-less redesign rumored to be coming this year. I would really like an ipad mini pro, since i'm used to that size, and love it's portability since i travel a lot...but i don't think thats gonna happen. However, if Apple keeps the 10.5" screen size, but just loses the bezels completely, that would make it smaller & more portable. So i think it's worth the wait. At least for me. The ipad has replaced my laptop. I use it not only for surfing the web, but for content creation too. I edit photos & videos and update my travel blog on it. I really don't miss lugging a laptop around at all.

I’m wishing just the opposite—same overall physical height/width as the 10.5 but with a bumped up screen size made possible by slimmer bezels and no home button.

The reason I don’t want a shrunken iPad Pro because the current width of the 10.5 allows full size keys on the Smart Keyboard—this makes it a full size keyboard. Unlike the Smart Keyboard of the 9.7” which Apple has said the key spacing was cramped.

Get one now. 10.5 is an incredible device. You never know when the next iPad will come and how much it’ll cost after the redesign. There are a lot of good sales going on on the 10.5 too. I got mine in Sep or Oct for $100 off, and there’s been sales for $150 now.

Actually, thats probably what Apple will do. That way they wont have to redesign the smart keyboard as well. Which could leave the door open for an ipad mini pro perhaps. Long shot. But possible.

Because you said you do a lot of art and could use the pencil, I would say yes, and its a good time to buy with the sales going on. Six months is a lot of time to wait, and if you think it can increase your productivity during that time I’d say its a good decision to upgrade.

Agreed. I just got one for $440 on ebay in almost new condition. It's my favorite iPad and I've tried them all. This one is a game changer.

Similar decision here. 10.5 is a solid buy especially with the new Zagg slim book keyboard case.

But I’m going to wait. The redesign looks game changing. The main reason , however, is that I’m seeing rumors of a potential 11.7 iPad Pro and THAT is the one I want. The 12.9 is just too unwieldy as a TABLET and the 10.5 compromises a bit in “laptop mode”

11.7 is really my seeet spot. Also wondering if they keep the current lineup with spec upgrades and release an iPad “X” , all new design 12 inches edge to edge with a better keyboard. There’s precedence for that with last years iPhone release strategy.

If you absolutely need something now go for the 10.5 and upgrade to the new design after 18 months. If you can wait just a bit until rumors get stronger closer to WWDC it might save you some buyers remorse.

if OP still from Oct until now, didn't bought any ipad...now its a good time to wait

I just got a 10.5 pro over the weekend, upgraded from iPad Air, amazing device, size is perfect and almost bezellless design is awesome.

Congrats!! Tell me how Long form writing and editing goes on this setup. I’m eyeing this too without bothering waiting for the fall. Did you get the ASK? I tried it out for 3 minutes at the store and found it unusable.

For reference my favorite apple keyboard is the 2011 MBA (they made the keys stiffer in 2014). The rMB kb is borderline unusable for me. Ended up picking up a thinkpad yoga just for the keyboard. I’m an author and when you’re typing 12000 words a day on average you need a keyboard your fingers can dance with.

As stated above the iPad Air 2 had already replaced my MacBook for everything except long-form writing and scanning. The scanning is very important for how I create my artwork as I will start on paper before going digital to add colours and textures. Does anyone know if a good way to scan high quality documents into the iPad to overcome this issue?
The iPad Pro will be perfect for scanning. The 10.5 has high-resolution camera and if you get the 512Gb you will have plenty of space to store the images. There are a number of good apps to work with the images

Can you really work with images without a mouse?

Wish I could. I tried the pencil with my 10.5 for photo work but it didn't work for me - my hands are not steady enough (benign tremors). So I'm stuck with the mouse on a PC or laptop.
Ah. Sorry to hear that.
