I use calculators daily in my line of work and we use them like keyboards. If this calculator does suffer from input lag like the home button, you have failed at the basic premise of a calculator.
Not sure how I have failed or even involved in anything related to this. The "stuff" that floats up...

I have absolutely no delay or anything else with the calculator app on my 6s. It is smooth and easy to use.
I suspect that those people who are having all these worse ever problems is a result of some or a combination of apps they are running and not IOS. I'll bet you if you traced all these threads back those who say IOS 11 is the worst and they want to go back to IOS 10 are the same people who last year said IOS 10 is the worst etc. etc.

I thought I was the only one

It doesn't even work on my Mac

Another +1 with no issues.

Admittedly I haven’t tried to speed type 1+1+1+1+1 trying to trip up the app as I know the answer is 5.

Not denying the bug exists but in real world usage (for myself personally) I haven’t ran into any lag at all, don’t consider myself to be a slow typer.

Loving the shortcut in the control centre as well.

The point is not that the calculator has had key lag introduced that was NOT there before and creates the potential of an error due to this FACT.

It is NOT that you can add to 5. So you actually DO have a issue although you might know it since you already know the answer is 5. I want a calculator that can keep up my the rate I can type like EVERY OTHER calculator made.

Fix this crapware so that the older phones work like a phone is expected to work!

Thanks for that, I've been wondering why does it ship with useless stuff like "Tips" but not a calculator... And thanks for the Pcalc recommendation too, that looks great.

This is probably the most embarrassing iOS 11 bug.
It's not new. I just tested it on an iPhone 5s running iOS 9.3.5 - same thing. It wasn't noticed before I guess or just people weren't vocal enough about it. Certainly an annoying bug though.

For me it came with ios11 with new calc app. Earlier it was working fine without any lag. Now i need to concentrate on typing rather than using my brain solving the math.

a user using the calculator app in iOS 11 should be able to input and add numbers at least as fast as a pocket calculator

unfortunately inputting numbers using a 30+ year old pocket calculator is more accurate/responsive than the 2 billion transistor device in my pocket.

My dad gave me his super old TI-30? - the one with the red light bulbs (tiny) for the screen - he spliced in wires so it can run off of a 9v battery. Love the sound the buttons make - they still work perfectly today.

Not my image (found on Google) but it is the same type of calculator that I have in my storage somewhere.

I just tested this on my iPhone 5S on 9.3.3. Calculator worked fine no matter how fast I spammed addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. Definitely a new thing in iOS 11.

Funny how Apple can go through 10 iOS 11 betas and 3 x.x.x updates and still can't fix such a small, but crippling, bug.

They may view it as working as designed.

Quite possibly just a low priority issue that they haven't gotten to.

Just like the home button delay, they don't care. At least you can use an alternative calculator app as a solution.

Just like those similar type of issues in the early iOS 10 days that didn't get addressed...oh, wait...

There is a pervasive disease in iOS development called input-blocking, this latest example with the calculator is another example of incompetent Apple engineering. After 10 years of iOS development, I just wish Apple would wake up and stop the madness once and for all.

Was going to say I just tried it on IOS11.0.3 and had no lag at all but then decided I can't be bothered.

Please don't claim that something is "definitely" a fact when it isn't. It is not a new thing. You either didn't try it enough times, you tried it with a calculation that works or it was somehow introduced in 9.3.5, which I doubt. I tested it again and while it only happens occasionally and not always, the bug CAN be replicated on 9.3.5's Calculator. For example 1+2+3 is sometimes given as 15 or 24 depending on which "+" it didn't register.

It could be that it happens more often on iOS 11 though. I don't plan to spend hours doing pointless tests. In the end what matters is that Apple should have fixed this a long time ago, no matter when it was first introduced.

P.S. I hate iOS 11 and wish I could just go back to 9 on all my devices.

Some input blocking removed in some areas of iOS 11 but then added to other areas. At least it isn’t added to the keyboard yet. Wish they’d remove it all.

Those that say it’s been reported to Apple.... have you actually reported it to Apple via beta feedback? Or are you just moaning on a forum that Apple doesn’t read?

Why would the need for something so basic need reporting at this point? If they can't catch a major issue like this then what hope do we have for other less noticeable issue to be fixed?

Perhaps because it's not anywhere close to being a major issue for the vast majority?

Because the MR waaaahmbulance approach is MUCH better evidently. Apple should JUST KNOW via some form of osmosis or telepathy evidently.

I really find it hard to believe that no one working at Apple ever uses the calculator app and has not noticed this. Defend all you want but there really isn't any excuse for such a basic function to be "degraded" from last years iOS. I use my calculator on my phone all the time, it is as convenient as having the camera with me all the time. With Apple making it an app in the default control center configuration , I'd imagine many others do too.

You should look into how accountants and auditors use calculators because when we use calculators we are on ultra speed especially when finalising the financial statements. I am faster on my pocket calculator than a calculator powered by the A10 Fusion and I have been using calculators everyday for hours on end in my line of work.
