It is crazy. Anyone else on this thread with 2 Gbps connections and more who had issues with the TS4?
I have 2GB fiber to the house and have no issues with my MacBook Pro M1Max and TS4 Dock. Of course I had to get a new firewall to support it but those are the crumbs that come with the crackers.

Hi, I recently bought the TS4 to use with my macbook pro 16" 2019, I went for that one as it was the only one that gave 98W of charge, but when I have been using the mac under load I have seen that it never exceeds 88.64W of charge, I wanted to know if it has happened to you or my model is faulty. Thanks

What would you recommend to someone who has a 2Gbps connection? Best to use the TS3+ instead of the TS4 because of all the issues? Or should I just buy an external USBC dock (with a PD passthrough maybe) and buy a Ethernet adapter (one with no added lag as the Belkin I currently have do have some latency)
never had any issues with 2.5 GB ethernet on the ts4+ and an Asus GT-AX11000 <shrug>
automatic config does 2.5 GB, full duplex- no flow control, no energy-efficient setting, and no problems.

This could be what you are looking for

Now if MikroTik could come up with an reasnoable prices TP3/4 SFP+ network card, then life would suddenly become interesting.

I just bought the TS4 and connected to my MBP M1 Max. I figured I could use the DP connection and one TB4 port for two Dell 32" 4K monitors at 60Hz. I wanted to keep the 2nd Tb4 port available for an NVMe SSD. After trial and error with a variety of different cables and adapters, I was finally able to get them both to work at 4K@60Hz, but with one weird issue. I am not able to get Apple's Retina (I think it's called) Thumbnail Scaling feature in the display properties to work properly. The monitor connected to the DP connector on the TS4 will only display the traditional long pick list of available scaling options and resolutions. Holding down the Option key and clicking the "Scaled" radio button doesn't help. Anyone else see this issue?

Also CalDigit must be seriously under fire right now...I can't get a hold of their support team by email or by phone.

I'm still having the following issue. I have a Studio Display and a
LG 4K Monitor (USB-C version) that I would like to run through the dock and into my MBP 14 Max.

- If connected to the dock via USB-C, I can only use the LG @ 30Hz. There is no option to increase the refresh rate, it's locked. Tried multiple cables, no love.
- If connected to the dock via DisplayPort->USB-C, I get my refresh rate back, but every time the monitor goes to sleep, I have to unplug it to get a picture back.

Only solution is to plug the LG 4K directly into the MBP along with the docking station. CalDigit has been unable to fix this or satisfactorily describe why it happens.

FWIW, I also occasionally see the LG plugged into the Mac not wake up from sleep, but it's far more rare than when through the dock via display port. That was every single time.

They all must be hard at work doing the final coding and testing of the Mac version of the firmware updater. :)
Coming up on 12 months on the market, and they still don’t have the updater app for Mac? How ridiculous.

I couldn’t even get the Windows updater to work on it. Glad to be rid of it.

Caldigit can't fix what isn't broken.
There is no option like 4K + 5K via dock!

4K + 4K
5K Studio + 5K Studio
6k XDR + 6K XDR

They didn't mention 1080p and 1440p. Does that mean the dock doesn't supports 1080p + 1440p?

I think they didn't mention 4K + 5K because they didn't want to make a huge chart with every possible combination and type of display.

That chart doesn't make sense - it doesn't explain why some of the options are not supported.

Why can't a PC support dual 5K or 6K if the Thunderbolt controller supports two displays and the GPU supports DSC?

Same for Intel Macs?

What about 8K for Intel Macs? Is it because no 8K60 DisplayPort displays existed when they made that chart? We know Macs don't do HDMI 2.1 or support DisplayPort to HDMI 2.1 adapters at full bandwidth but they can do 8K60 using 4:2:0.

What about USB-C for PCs? A USB-C connection should allow up to 8K60 with DSC but only if there's 4 lanes of DisplayPort. The TS4 dock connects with only 2 lanes of DisplayPort when connected as USB-C but that's still enough for 5K60 with DSC but you may need a MST hub to convert two lanes of HBR3 to four lanes of HBR2 as required by the Apple Studio Display.

I can't figure out why the chrome book can support dual 6K60 with the dock but not single 6K60 or dual 5K60.

Try this...plug the monitor cable into the back of the dock, with the connector to the monitor "disconnected". Then, connect the monitor FIRST, that normally only registers 30Hz. See if it has 60Hz. Then, connect the second monitor cable connector into the monitor. See if you get both to register 60Hz.

I feel like they just abandoned the TS4. They must have lost some internal developers or some third-party development contracts fell through.
It´s like a bad joke... 6 months have passed since the firmware update tool for windows and the firmware v39 was released. And since then, there is a `mac updater coming soon' message. I didn´t know 'soon' means 'more than 6 months'...
Caldigit prices are 'premium'. If I pay premium prices , I expect a premium product and premium support. I am really disappointed and will avoid caldigit products in the future...

Agreed, but what is the alternative? I did finally get a message back from the support team. Looks like average response time is 7-9 days. They are not having the same experience I am with their configuration in a similar setup. It sucks waiting 7-9 days between emails, but...

What better options are there though? After messing with 4 different hubs, and 22 cable and adapter purchases (returnable to Amazon), I still think managing the CalDigit is the best option. Once I found a brand of TB4 to HDMI cable that would work (Plugable), I started having issue with the monitors not waking up properly, after sleep. I went back to using HDMI from the MBP and one Plugable brand TB4 to HDMI adapter for the second monitor. It's confirmed I can't use DP at all on my monitors.

I finally accepted I won't be able to use the TS4 like a true dock, but maybe in hind-sight that is best for overall performance on my editing studio with 2 NVMe SSD's and a TB4 RAID backup, with 2 external monitors (3rd one soon), and some misc USB accessories.

I found an HDMI cable with a right angle and a very thin cable I can plug directly into the MBP, and I'm considering a new G-Raid 2-bay backup drive box with TB3 daisy chain capability and HDMI output to offer me my second/third monitor option. All this still leaves me with 1 TB4 port to spare, but is not truly a dock.

Even so, this is my first go at Apple Mac. In hind-sight my Dell laptop hardware with the big docking port on the bottom, snapping into a true docking station, is deeply missed at this point.

That is indeed the problem... Specswise the Caldigit offers the most connection possibilities... This is also the reason why I bought it and kept it. But I am really disappointed with the support and the problems that I am having losing connection to devices after wakeup from sleep...

Perhaps this could be a proper alternative:

Yeah, I just solved my problems with wake-up. When using one TB4 to HDMI adapter from Plugable, and the HDMI output from the MBP, I don't have those issues anymore. I think the issue has to do with the "chipset" in most USBC to HDMI cables (and potentially adapters as well).

I know that The Plugable USB-C to HDMI cable uses a Parade PS186 chipset ( https://plugable.com/products/usbc-hdmi-cable#nav-specifications ) while the USB-C to HDMI adapter uses a Realtek RTD2172U chipset ( https://plugable.com/products/usbc-hdmi#nav-specifications ).

Perhaps an issue with the TS4 and the Parade chipset. I don't have the sleep issue with the Realtek chipset in the adapter, but I can't run two of these, without the second monitor working at only 6K30Hz.

As for the Hyperdrive...no, it's the exact same as the Kensington SD5700T and the Satechi Thunderbolt 4 (and the OWC and a couple others). I saw a video where a guy said all the boards on the inside are the same, and just the exterior shell is different between brand. They look identical. Plus, I tested the Kensington and the Satechi, and both exhibit the same sleep issue with the Plugable USBC to HDMI cable (one-piece cable).

I did also just find this device. https://plugable.com/products/tbt4-hub3c
Weird, though. I've been having regular communication with Plugable support over the last couple weeks, and they had suggested they didn't have a TB4 hub. ?? I sent a message to them asking if they have tested this device with their own cables, and whether or not there is a sleep issue. If not, I'll ditch the TS4 and try this for less than 50% of the cost of the TS4?

I use this newer one that is slightly cheaper and which has an extra USB-A port (10 Gbps):

No sleep issues, but I just use one monitor (M1 Mac mini).

Gotcha. What kind of cable are you using between the hub and your monitor? USBC to HDMI? Or, do you have an adapter from USBC to HDMI and then use an HDMI cable?

Should I connect my HDMI 2.1 Monitor with an USB-C to HDMI adapter or Displayport to HDMI Adapter?
Is there are a difference or it doesn't matter?

I have a Macbook Pro 14, Caldigit TS4 and a LG OLED monitor with HDMI 2.1 port.

I'm using USB-C to USB-C. The cable came with the monitor. However, an HDMI cable (direct from Mac mini) also works.

The Caldigit TS4 doens't have a HDMI Port that's why I need an adapter (my monitor only has HDMI 2.1 ports). Not sure if I should use a Displayport or USB-C adapter to HDMI.
