It's a 1.1G, but I would never buy it, just knowing that it isn't truly the first iPod.

Still, biddings going well. £181 already!

Oh my, this just ended for over $1,700!

Technically, it's not even a true first generation. Hopefully, the buyer knows that.

If this auction is any indication, a real first gen sealed in box should fetch several thousands!

Dang, iPod collecting is more common than I thought :)

Speaking of which, a collector is selling most of his collection over on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290483926687&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT

I wanted this Volkswagen special edition 3rd gen, but it sold already

Yep, £1100 is a sizeable amount. If I had a boxed 1G though, I'd still hold on to it as that value is only going to go up and up.

I won't sell mine until I get between 5 an 7k. Honestly I really think it will happen one day. It is a TRUE new 1G.

As many of you probably are, I too am an iPod collector. It's hard to explain the feeling of getting a new iPod, eventhough you know there's no need for it:rolleyes:

...my iPhone is pretty much the only thing that gets use nowadays, but I still find myself trying to find a way to get the next one :D

Here's a thread to that you can creatively show your precious collection. I for one have my collection displayed as such...

3/21/08 EDIT: Some of you expressed interest in the stands my iPods are displayed on. I have some of these for sale if you see this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/446018/

3/22/08 EDIT: I've added a pic of my collection up to date and removed the previous picture.

Great collection of iPods. Just shows how iconic they have become and seemingly wiped away the competition. Nice photos.

To be honest I don't think it'll be too long until it's worth 5k. If I was you I would just keep it until you are a lot older.

Great collection, but I can't find my iPod nano 4...If you can collect all of the color is much better

Mine

This is my entire collection. I posted here quite a while a go (I think it was about a year a go) in a picture gallery section in this forum. Under the thread Show your iPod RIG. My collection are growing larger and larger. This is my latest update.

The ones that I have outside the box doesn't have the box anymore. Or, maybe I accidentally damaged the box and threw it somewhere else. But, the ones that are boxed still has the iPod inside. I opened up the box to charge them once every 2 weeks so the original battery remains intact and holds charge.

I have a lot iPods sealed in box as I like to collect them very much. The most favorite iPod in my collection is the 3rd generation iPod with lights on the buttons. I am still using the 3rd generation 40GB model as my main iPod.

Also, not pictured are my 1st generation iPod that I bought in Cupertino back in December 2001. I have 2 sealed. My wife is using them for a presentation in Singapore so she bring those iPods along with her.

Any questions please just comment. I love to see other collectors here that are really enthusiasts about iPod. Share your thoughts!

Sorry for the poor iPhone 4 quality. Let me know if you guys want to see more pictures.

How do you like my collection Psykomaniaque?

Yes. I do. This is just my side hobby. I got all these from connections and mostly eBay from 2001. So, you know my history.

Honestly, I never got a chance to count all my iPod, because I sometimes gave my cousins my used ones. They need it more than I do. Then overtime I got a new one. So the numbers stop.

BTW, someone in this thread said that he missed the eBay auction for a Volkswagen iPod. I am the guy that bought it lol. Sorry cant resist myself.

Thanks for all your comments.
I'm a lucky guy.

Wow, nice collection!

Really love your collection!;)
I shall like having the same collection as you but I'm not Rothschild!:(

My last photo of my small collection:  But I love it! (Missing iPod nano 1G Gray 4Gb and an iPod + HP 4G Photo Brand new sealed)

Really want a new nano 6G and iPod shuffle 4G.

Nice collection.
wow, i didn't realize how massive the packaging was back then for the ipod classics.

Yes. And they were including a FireWire cable, USB cable, an Apple CARRYING case, headphones, dock, and TV out for iPod with colored screen. Look how nice Apple back then.

3rd Gen Shuffle boxes.

If you look at Psykomaniaque's collection above, can anybody tell me why the 3G Shuffles come in two different sized boxes? Is it because the ones spaced centrally are 2GB and the one's offset to the left in a smaller box are 4GB?

The ones that offset to the left are from the 1st batch of the 3rd gen Shuffle. Then, Apple rolled newer batches with colors on em. So they redesigned the packaging.

Thanks, it seems a bit strange that they wouldn't produce the first batch in different colours.
Anyway, I took delivery of a sealed, 4th Gen HP iPod this weekend and have added some updated pics of my collection.

PS, hope you like my little army of 1G Shuffles ;)

I like your collection. Especially with the iMac G4 in the back. Really made me think of the good old days with my G4.

Just starting my collection - Need Advise

So far I have:
-1st Gen Ipod Classic 10GB (no box/accessories) - With "don't steal plastic still on it
-2nd Gen Ipod Classic 10GB very good condition with original box/accessories/cds/etc
-1st Gen iPhone 8GB Sealed

-Original iPod 5gb Brochure (really cool..possibly rare??)

Just started and would appreciate comments.
I am indecisive about how I should continue my collection too.

Should I only look to buy sealed boxes OR should I get used (good condition) with the original box?

Honestly I am not looking to make money. Just want a cool collection in my office someday. haha:cool:...What are you guys thoughts. Like I said, I am INDECISIVE and could used everyone's opinions.

Thanks
Scott

I will add pictures of my iPods at the end of this week. FYI sweet discussion board!

I kick myself every time I see one of these. I bought one three years ago for $80, and stupidly traded it for a PowerBook the next year. Like yours, it was a sealed M8513LL/A. I don't have the PB, and I'm stuck with regret letting it go.

However, I bought a 2G 10GB a couple days ago, to restart that warm feeling.

Hey scott. Welcome to the club. It seems you are taking my place in the apple collector world. Im no longer a collector because I'm married, own a house now, and simply can't afford it :/

But anyhow it seems there are three forms of collecting and you can go either route ...based on $$$ of course.

Most expensive - all sealed iPods

Middle road - iPods aren't sealed but you have original boxes for all (do not want any refurbished iPods)

Least expensive - iPods with no boxes. You simply want to display the evolution of the iPod
without the need to display the evolution of packaging or included accessories. You wouldn't care if some were refurbs.

I tried to stay in the middle road with a few iPods that were sealed.

Hope that helped!
