Well, I was watching this item go on eBay. I'd hoped that it wouldn't be noticed by most people so I could get it for a relatively low price.
Anyway, I saw that Fralle posted a link here and I've decided to post a screenshot of the ending price.

Just seeing this sort of makes me think is collecting iPods really even worth it?
It may be a fun hobby but is it worth it for that price.
I still have some way to go before I finish my collection.

If I still need the;
1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen Classic as well as both the 1st and 2nd Minis, seeing items go at this price and many users demanding even higher prices, it kind of makes me feel like I should give up on my collection. Why would I pay so much for them? :(

Anyway, here is the screenshot. Do say what you think, guess the gut must have really wanted it. But my guess is, the buyer just wants to re-sell for a huge profit later on.

hi

i found a blog where you found lots of information about latest technology all over the world like iPhone, ipad, and smart phones
that is....LINK DELETED/

Looks like someone has found a way to advertise their own blog on here.
Seeing as you only have 1 member on there and there's nothing about iPods, I think this may be the wrong thread ;)

Insane

10-year-old technology!! Would anyone buy a VHS-player from sony for this price?? Its not even the first gen, but a second generation! I also think the person bought it, did so with the intent to sell it and make a profit :(

I would NEVER pay that much for an iPod! EVER! I would rather buy 18 sealed classics or 30 sealed nanos or 93 sealed shuffles...

Sad to see you go MattyMac :(

That's awesome to have one sealed. I think it sounds great, though!

Any for Sale?

I am in the market for a 1st gen iPod (the original) I see you a big collector do you happen to have others you sell?

I was very fortunate to get several of them around 2-3 years ago. I'd probably hang on with what I have right now for another 5 years.

An iPod Collection seems silly. They become dated, and obsolete, there's nothing collectable about them, they are mass produced products. The only thing that would remotely be collectable is having a new in box, first gen iPod, and hold onto it for a couple decades to see if it might have value in the future.

Dont be this guy:

I disagree - I prefer some of the older ones to newer ones - they aren't obsoleted but provide another unique way to experience music

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion

...but this is like going on a democratic pep rally as a republican...

;) Doh...how about the second generation sold for 4550$ a week ago on ebay...???

Who are you to decide what or what not to collect?

Nobody. If someone enjoys collecting beer bottle caps, then it doesnt matter what anyone thinks.

If you are talking about the monetary value of a collection...then there are definite wise and unwise investments to make.

Agreed. Does collecting iPods hurt anyone? Probably not. Are you gonna make serious money? Meh. But they're cool & fun. I have three, all in heavy use (car = nano, running = shuffle, storage/house speakers = classic)

I do think an iPod sitting around in a box is, well, just a box. But hey, whatever floats your boat!

So, there are no money involved in collecting iPods? Compared to what? Collecting Ferraris? Or am I just misunderstanding you? :)

I think a 7:th generation sealed nano will never be as valuable as a sealed 1:st or second generation now when people are aware of the presumptive collector value, but that's always the case in any collecting before people realize what is going on. Still, if you think a couple of thousand dollars for an iPod is not that much, go ahead now, because they are going up in value every day! And if everybody thinks a new 7:th gen nano isn't worth collecting, they too will cost a handsome bunch of money in 10 years time...trust me, I do know that for a fact!! ;)

Not to many days ago an apple belt buckle sold for some 230$ on ebay...worth it?? You be the judge :D
