No surprise really. It's been known since 2012 that the 2GB DRAM Note II got split screen multitasking feature while original 2011 1GB DRAM Note did not.

All those denying that specs don't matter now have obsolete devices even if they bought it in 2015 unless it's the iPad Air 2.

Yep they're obsolete .. They'll never work again.

Oh wait yes they will! They'll work exactly as they do now.

Seriously drama much ?

Reality - I'm pretty sure the jailbreak community will release a little patch enabling it on all devices and we will find that it actually does work on current devices - however apple likely artificially limited it because it provides incentives for iPad owners to upgrade.

It's what apple does ....

Likewise - We do not know at this stage whether they have any intention of ever releasing it on iPhone period.

Obsolete devices because they suddenly don't do what they were promised to do when they were bought? Seriously?

It's one feature out of a whole plethora of features announced for iOS. Suddenly, my iPad mini 2 is obsolete just because it doesn't sound get one feature?

What does that make Android devices, many of whom never even see an update?

Exactly. No one would be as silly to argue that the new theming engine in the S6 that hasn't appeared on lollipop builds for other galaxy or Note devices makes those devices obsolete. Because it doesn't. Those devices work just how they did when they were bought. Likewise with this.

Usable is not equal to obsolete.

I personally find iOS9, when it's fully featured, to be a solid update for iPad Air 2 users.

I haven't owned an iPad in about 18 months. I want one but have cause for pause given how Apple just pooped all over the vast majority of iPad owners because they short changed users by selling underspecced, RAM starved products for way too long just to make a quick buck.

I'll wait and see what Apple has in store in the Fall, but WWDC threw up all kinds of red flags that make the prospect of the Surface 4 seem like a much safer bet for product longevity and maximizing bang for buck.

iOS 7 made my iPhone 4 crawl, after that experience I don't really want OS "upgrades" I'll stick with just keeping the few applications I do have on my phone up to date.

As others have pointed out already, not being able to use a particular feature does not render a device obsolete. You used the wrong word there I think.

What was posted was incorrect anyway. I had the original galaxy note with 1 GB of ram and the multi window feature was enabled with the jelly bean update.

Oh right I suppose the iPhone could handle it with 1GB of RAM but it's down to Apple whether or not they want all devices to have the feature. I don't need it personally so won't lose sleep if my iPhone 6 didn't get it, plus the screen is probably too small for it in any case lol. Far from obsolete though as we all agree :)

I think with decling sales in the tablet space Apple is going to keep some features just for the iPad. Hoping that this will spur sales.
