I wouldn’t count on the price going lower than this. The rebate is good until the end of the month, then the price goes back up. If you want one, I would suggest snagging one now while they’re available.
I think you right on this. I saw that the 2020 iPP was back in stock last night, though I’ve yet to order. I’m perplexed at how little the 2020 iPPs are being discounted this year. Most places are discounting $100 on the 12.9” and Costco has discounted them $150 (on top of their regular $50 discount). Perhaps the $100 increase on the 2021’s are keeping the 2020’s discount pretty tame (a $150 discount looks like a $250 comparable to the similarly specced 2021).

Perhaps there will be deeper discounts for Memorial Day sales, but I’m not counting on it other than an odd flash sale here or there. I think Costco will be able to sell their stock without further discounting.

I've been watching the price on Costco.com for a few weeks now. A few days ago, all the 2020 models disappeared but now they're back again. Same discounted rate as before though. I'm hoping they'll drop the price even further once we're past the launch date for the new ones.

Anyone else notice that the Refurb Store hasn't had any iPads in quite awhile? With stocks so low at the Apple stores and Apple experiencing record sales during lockdown, the normal overstock that we'd normally be seeing just isn't there.

With the looming chip shortage, probably a good idea to jump on what you want (2020 or 2021) now. That Costco deal may be the best one we see for quite awhile.

Since I'm not in dire need (2nd gen iPad Pro is great) and won't make a decision till after the WWDC (2021 iPP or MBAir?), if I have to wait a bit and lose out on a potential savings, I'll just have to suck that up. I mean, I like saving money as much as the next person but I need to make the right decision for my business.

Stock may come after Apple received trade-ins for the new Ipads.

Agreed. Another point to make is that waiting will result in spending more time thinking about it, checking prices, thinking, and on and on — all wasted time and energy.

I agree with both of you, which is why I finally decided to order a discounted 2020 12.9" 128GB from Costco. I've used only 61GB storage on my 10.5" iPP 256GB (and some of that could be cleaned out), so I decided to drop to the 128GB. I couldn't justify spending $250-$300 more for a comparable 2021 12.9" and figured that, considering the lack of 2018 and 2020 Apple refurbished iPP's and the poor discounts typically found on 2020 iPP's, Costco's discount was (is) pretty good, relatively speaking. Plus, I was tired of spending "time thinking about it, checking prices, thinking, and on and on — all wasted time and energy."

I’m on the fence right now whether I should get the 2020 iPad or the M1. I have the iPad Pro 11” and I want to upgrade to the 12.9”. I’ll be using it mainly for school (note taking), a couple games, and streaming every now and then. I don’t feel like I may be taking full advantage of the M1 power, but at the same time, it’s only a $100 difference between the two. The 2020 is $899 at Best Buy, and the M1 is $999 with the education discount through Apple. Am I better off saving that $100 than getting the M1 iPad?. I do plan on keeping this iPad for at least 2 to 3 years.

I believe that with the Ed discount, I would get the M1

If you have neither, get the new one. It'll last you longer due to the extra memory.

It's just not a reason to spend $$$ to upgrade if one already has an 2018 iPP

Good call Broadus! The 128gb storage sounds like a practical choice as well.

I am certainly buying the 16" M1 MBP that is going to be coming soon.

Better to save up money so that I can get the configuration that I want.
I wanted the mini LED, but the size and price is what made me cancel my order. I've been planning to buy the 11 inch iPad Pro and the redesigned MacBook Pro for quite some time. After some careful consideration I cancelled my order and went back to my original plan. I figured I could use that extra $300 for a ram upgrade for the new MacBook Pro. My current usage of the iPad really won't benefit from mini led anyways, so It's not a loss there. I'm still getting all the same features for a significantly lower price.

I was really pumped about upgrading my 2018 12.9 pro to the new one with XDR screen, but I started to have second thoughts while trying to rationalize what was going to be different on my day to day IPad usage, and I couldn’t justify the extra spend based on the better performance and better screen since the current one is still working really, really well .

At the same time I was having a hard time enjoying video games with my gaming PC because I started hating my PC monitor due to becoming more and more apparent I had an ugly backlight bleeding on the screen and low color contrast. I decided to cancel the preorder and buy a new monitor instead.

Seems that must be Apple withholding refurbs. No way they aren’t getting them as normal...?

No reason to believe that. Used and trade-ins will continue as mentioned below.

What normally happens is that the Apple Stores and warehouses dump unsold discontinued stock into the Refurb Store. This happens as soon as the new models ship. Because of the unusually high demand for iPads plus the unusually low stock levels at the stores, both due to COVID lockdown, there may be a trickle but it will not be as plentiful as previous years.
Stock may come after Apple received trade-ins for the new Ipads.
Of course but these won't be unsold 2020 iPads. Again, I'll be surprised if that volume will be very high. Anyone like I will be waiting to see what iOS 15 allows. If I don't like the news, my current iPP will stay put.

UK refurb store has been showing 11" 2018 tablets in higher storage configurations for the last two weeks. Never seen a 2020, likely too soon.

I had ordered a 12.9 with 256 GB and then cancelled it. I will re-buy one but I am now going to wait to see what is announced in June. If anything I am interested in can truly utilize 16 GB of ram, than I will order a 1 TB. If not, I'll re-order a 256 GB version and use external storage for more things.

I had an order because I always want the latest and greatest - but then reminded myself that I always found the 12.9" cumbersome for what is a touch-first interface. Now considering an 11".
