Thanks - I know from reading many of your posts that you are very security conscious. Do you have any reservations about using these adapters from a security perspective?

I've searched online but cannot really find much about whether or not any research has been done on the security aspect of these adapters.

I suspect that it's probably ok since all it's doing is sitting in the middle of your phone and car, providing a Wi-Fi connection via the adapter. But curious what your thoughts are.
I have more of a health and safety concern over these wireless CarPlay adapters than privacy.

As mentioned by one user it does fail from time to time.

The last thing you want to fail is your CarPlay screen that could lead to a distraction that causes a vehicular accident.

Either you or other people on the road may be majorly injured or died.

This is the reason I prefer USB-C to USB-A cables for iPhones with USB-C ports over any other object suggested by OP.

Yeah already trusted, my experience has been that regardless of trust or not I typically need to unlock my phone in order for Car Play to enable, even with my old phone.
I had this on my 12. I also have a RAM (2019). If I plugged it in before starting the truck I almost always needed to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to show up. My lightning port was having issues (not detecting the cable, even during charging) so I chalked it up to that and bought a wireless adaptor for CarPlay and a MagSafe charger for charging. The wireless has worked like a charm. I do plan on going back to wired when my 15PM gets here since I like to charge my phone while I'm in the truck but if I have any issues I'll just go back to wireless CarPlay and MagSafe charging.

I picked up a native union cable from Best Buy. Works like a charm. I didn’t go wireless CarPlay as my next car will likely have it and it will likely be in the next 6 months.

Nice to know you just bought any USB-C to USB-A cable brand. I never heard of Native Union.

I’ve used them in the past for connecting my passport to my iMac. They are extremely durable. At least against cats chewing on them. I figured having a durable cable for the constant connect disconnect would be a good thing.

Hey all,

So I realized a couple days ago that I do not have a USB A to usb C cable allowing me to use CarPlay.

Does anyone have a suggested cable or adapter I can use to get CarPlay back on my iPhone 15pm?
CarPlay in my Mazda was quite picky about using Apple lightning cables with my iPhone X. But with my new 15 Pro it works fine with the first, cheap USB-A-USB-C cable I tried

This does not seem to be true. My usbc cables in my car do NOT work. Idk if they don’t have data transfer ability or what. But they do not.
Absolutely possible or like with our Ody, for some reason Honda decided that it needed a dedicated port for connecting data from the phone to the car. Which is in the cubby between the seats. Not the USB ports right under the stereo head. Yeah. We miss the Pilot and I doubt we keep the Ody more than a year before trading it off.

Okay so I just tried to install it in my Honda. It completely crashed my infotainment system. Thankfully it came back up when I completely powered down my car, but it took about 5 mins of my infotainment system doing this weird loading thing for it to start working normally again. I'll be returning it first thing Monday.

Very strange. I never had anything like that happen to me. I have a 2024 model car. What year is yours?

I bought a wireless CarPlay adapter and I’ve been using it for about 2 years now.

What adapter do you use?
I tried multiple iterations of the CarLinkIt and had nothing but trouble... the units would work for about a week, and then just stop connecting... they also all ran really hot - too hot to hold in my hand comfortably. I returned them all. Another forum member recommended a generic unit for significantly cheaper price than any of the CarLinkIt devices... and it's been nearly flawless for the past 3 months.

It’s the weirdest thing…these dongles work for some cars and not others despite what they say in their advertising. I tried a CarPlay2Air adapter and it never worked right. Then I got a Carlinkit 2.0 and it’s worked flawlessly for a couple of years now. It’s working fine with an iPhone 15 Pro Max and iOS 17.0.2.

One thing I haven’t done is update the Carlinkit firmware. I’m usually pretty obsessive about upgrading software/firmware but in this case I won’t unless it stops working. The manufacturer explicitly says this, to not update the f/w if the device is working OK.

Craziest part about the inconsistency is that most all of the wireless dongles are probably the same as far as internal components go. Why one manufacturer’s dongle works and another’s won’t has been and remains a mystery…at least to me.

I just use Anker USBA-USBc cable. Haven't had any issues with it. I actually bought this cable when I was test driving Samsung S22 Ultra. little over a year ago. And the cable has been sitting in my car the whole time tied to my phone mount.
