I bought an el-cheapo USB-A to USB-C two-for-$7.99 cable set from Amazon to use my 15 Pro in a rental car with wired CarPlay for a week. Mostly it worked fine, but I did have to un-plug/re-plug a couple of times (on iOS 17.0.2 because I didn’t want to update while traveling without my computer in case of problems).

That said, if I owned a car with wired-only CarPlay I’d definitely get the wireless adapter. I had one in my prior car and it worked flawlessly. Current car is factory-wireless.

It absolutely does not.

I had this one for a bit and it was slow and laggy, so I returned it.
Likewise... I have tried three different CarLinkIt brand devices (v3, v4 and v5). They all worked ok out of the box... but all three versions started dropping the connections (or failing to even start up) after a week or two. Returned each one when it started to fail, and went with a YeHua branded device, which was recommended by someone in one of these threads... not a moment’s trouble with it and it's going on 4 months now.

Any USB-C to USB-A cable will do.
That's not true. I bought a cheap USB-A to USB-C cable for my car and it does not activate CarPlay wenn plugged in (neither does it charge the 15P). On the other hand it is working with other things and also the wireless CarPlay adapter so it's in fact not dead.

Don't know what's the issue with it but the 15P doesn't accept it.

I finally tested out CarPlay on my 15 Pro Max. I have a 2016 car with only a USB-A port for Carplay. My Anker A to C cable works perfectly fine. For anyone who cares my amazon order is saying it's this one but mine definitely isn't 6ft. maybe 3ft.

It didn’t come with wireless car play?

I have 3 of these and they work great.
The Elites might, I dunno, but I'm not paying that much for one just to have wireless carplay. The '22 Pilot SE it replaced didn't have it, either.

I have been using these Anker cables and they work fine 👍

Alternatively, you can also use these USB-A to USB-C adapters with Apple’s own USB-C cables, they also work fine (tested):

Wanted to use the Anker, but $14 for two USB cables is steep. Went with these cheapos and they seem to work perfectly fine: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089DK2285
You get what you pay for... and if you think $14 for two USB cables is steep, I guess you aren't buying cables or accessories from Apple (they get $19/$29 per for iPhone cables...

It’s a dedicated cable that lives in the car for CarPlay; if it runs CarPlay fine, what exactly is the difference? And no I absolutely do not pay the Apple cable tax when I can avoid it.

I use to buy cheap cables and they don’t last. I got better ones that costed a little more, and they last. You’re right, you get what you pay for.

See Post #59. There's multiple posts in other threads detailing how cheap cables won't work properly. But, whatever. I'm not gonna have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.
You’re right. You can’t win. I am using $12 cables from Amazon and they work fine. You’re just proving you have nothing but straws.

I got a wireless adapter so I could have wireless CarPlay. I also keep a cable in the car (for wired CarPlay) in case I ever have problems with the wireless adapter.
which wireless adapter did you get? I read that they can be a hassle and flaky. What is your experience?

I got the carlinkit 5.0 and it works very well. On the off occasion it gets wonky I just unplug and plug it back in again. The earlier versions I had difficulty with.

I've read that WIFI is required in the car for these via a few reviews. Is this true? Doesn't make sense to me.
