Just download the file, open iTunes, choose 'Restore' while holding the option button. Choose the file you need and restore it.

OK, I get the restore thing, but when I go to choose a file to restore from, Do I just select the new carrier file that I just downloaded? OR do I have to actually choose the actual iphone firmware file also??

Are you on a messaging plan already? When you restore from that file does it just add the carrier update and leave everything else alone? Just asking, since you never know, this might go on for awhile.

I just downloaded the carrier file and updated it through itunes. I already had a messaging plan. I didn't call at&t or anything. Once I updated the carrier file, I turn the phone off and on. And there it was the cellular data network option. So I started sending mms. So far its still working. Everything else seems to be the same.

The carrier file. Hit ctrl+shift and check for update. Then just pick the carrier file

Yeah, that's what I figured....you have to have a messaging plan. I followed these hacks quite closely months ago, but I lost interest with all the problems people had. It would work, then not. Then you had to change sim cards. It just got like a dog trying to catch its tail. Anyway, I'm not getting a messaging plan just to do this. I'm hoping when we get it officially, that I just have to pay $0.30/msg, but they haven't said anything about that.

Not working for me, I am on the latest version of itunes. When I pull up the location of my file I downloaded, it doesn't even acknowledge that the file is there. It's like it cant see it.
Tried putting it on my desktop, in my documents, etc. As far as itunes can see, the file doesn't exist. ????

alpha - do you know if it will work on snow leopard? my .ipcc file wont highlight when i click option restore.

You have type this into Terminal first:
Code:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Then it should allow you to load the file.

Ohh, I See!!!. The only good thing I didn't have to change the sim to a non iphone. I wasn't even going to bother with that. I just cross my fingers that the exclamation point didn't pop up.

It should be there. Just remember where you save it and what type it is, iphone carrier configuration files.

Do you have to enter the settings under "Cellular Network Data"?

EDIT: Not necessary. Just reboot the phone! Success!

You have to enable manual .ipcc updates.
Follow the instructions for your OS here:
http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/06/how-to-enable-carrier-bundle-support-in-itunes-82-in-mac-windows/

And alphaod is incorrect, you do NOT choose restore, you choose Update, as Lakerfan here said.

If your one of the thousands of people that has done all the correct steps, has MMS enabled, you even see the MMS icon next to the entry field AND you even have all the correct settings in the Cellular Data Network but you still can't send a picture, the reason is you have a block on your account. You need to contact ATT and have them enable WAP Push on your account, resent your OTA and reset your VLR's. You're going to encounter reps that say they can't do this like the system wont let them, but in fact you can...or else none of us would be able to send MMS. There are 2 places in snooper the WAP Push can be enabled, just try to get them to do it and your set. If you get them to do what i said before, turn off your phone, turn it back on and your golden.

How legit is this? Can they still block it?

Well, it's a hacked file. I guess technically if an Apple Genius sees you have a modified carrier file (if you go in for an issue with the phone), then they can void your warranty.
As for blocking; if they see you have an iPhone with your SIM card in it, yes, they can block you again. I'm not sure if they would go through the trouble at this point, since MMS is apparently ~10 days away (Sep 9th at the event is the rumor).

help?

Mine stops here:

And then I get this:

me too. ive tried a hundred different hacks, nothing works for me.

AT&T has MMS blocked on all iPhone accounts. There are three things you can do:

1 - Switch your SIM card into another phone for a few hours, use normally. Send txts, make calls, try sending MMS, etc. Eventually you should be able to send MMS messages. If not, go onto your account on AT&T's website and change your phone, messaging plan and data to a non-iPhone, a non-iPhone messaging plan, and a non-iPhone [unlimited] data plan. Continue to make calls, send txt/mms, etc.
----After you are able to send MMS, swap the SIM card back into your iPhone, it should work.

2 - Call AT&T and try to have them remove the MMS opt-out from your account. Tell them you lost your iPhone or broke it or something. Have them switch you to a non-iPhone messaging and data plan.

3 - Go back to carrier file 4.0 and wait it out. It's only three weeks away, at most. Rumors around here (remember, they are rumors only) are that it will be released at the Apple event on September 9th.

Have you tried taking your sim out and putting it into a non-iphone and changing the Text plan.? Once that is done log into Media net and register and then send a text from the non-iphone. It shoudl work fine

These are all the reasons I just don't bother doing this.

4.5 is a legit AT&T file, hence, no tethering.
The latest hacked carrier file is 5.1.
I'd post it for you, but I'm posting from my phone, I'm at my brother's house right now.

If you do a search on here, you can probably find it, it's here.

Okay so I'm confused. What is the latest version of the official AT&T carrier file? 4.0 or 4.5?
