I know this thought will get drowned out amongst the other conversations going on, but I'm actually very curious about how this twill holds up when introduced to natural oils from peoples skin.
That was my first thought, this cheap material looks like it'll stain quickly from everyday touch in addition to not being very durable or easily cleanable. And then they're putting it on watch bands which are not only in contact with the skin constantly, but also with sweat, splashes from hand washing, in contact with tables and other surfaces.

I figured these bands and cases would look terrible within a month or two of regular use, seems Apple beat me to the punch and they just look terrible straight out of the package!

Doing a chemical treatment may be the only way buyers can get this product to hold up over time.

Give Apple accessories a chance, I'm sure the new material will grow on you people... or grow mold near you. I think I bought an Apple branded case for the iPad1,1, but nowadays there are countless less expensive, high quality alternatives from reputable manufacturers.

Indeed. That time was when phones were made from plastic. I used Nexus and Sony phones all the time without cases. And in my unpopular opinion, that’s a much better material for something you hold in your hand. But no, Apple convinced people that slippery fragile glass bricks are better. Because they “feel so premium”. Thank god I don’t have to read that anymore…. unfortunately it’s because now every good phone has to feel that way.
Exactly!! I use a case now, not specifically for protection, but to give me a grip on the slippery things. I usually buy a soft silicone case, that's the best grip.

I do yearly upgrades on the iPhones and I have been purchasing the leather case since the first one, for the 5s (2013).

The reason to go with Apple is that Apple does a lot of integration testing. With a modern case, you are certain to have:
  • Good phone protection (1 screen break in all that time).
  • Attractive case.
  • Good button functions
  • MagSafe
  • Strong magnet effect for the Belkin iPhone Mount with MagSafe for Mac Notebooks

Where else can I get a replacement? Ratings that I see don't mention button functionality compared with Apple. They also don't mention magnet strength.

I have the woven case and it does seem terrible and will be returning it.

What Apple could/should have done, is just to stop making and selling cases. There was a time when no cell phone had a case or cover. AppleCare+ would cover any catastrophic damages, effectively negating the need for a case.

Think that was when phones didn’t used to cost a grand

The sad thing is that I now spend a lot of time and money to find a replacement for the simple old (and none too good) Leather Case. From FW (looks bad from the reviews) to Native Union (no real buttons, what?) to Ryan London (thicker leather) to ... whatever I may find that is simple, not too thick, has working buttons and does offer strong MagSafe :-D it is now a search for a solid replacement. I could totally live with 1:1 the old case with pleather, like the Yatay Native Union uses.

Getting rid of the leather cases is ridiculous. Beef and leather products will not be going away, regardless what a vast but extremely vocal minority of the population sincerely wishes. I care about the environment, and support climate change mitigation, and I also bought a third party leather case when I normally would have bought an Apple leather case. I am simply not into virtue signaling. I believe that the choice to drop the leather cases is mainly Apple virtue signaling at a corporate level. If you want to be eco-friendly then do not buy a case and upgrade your phone less often.

How the hell those cases received the go ahead is mind boggling. Must be the iPhone 4 antenna gate all over, they kept it in cases and labs to not spill the beans, so no-one noticed issues until it was released.

Because the cases are carbon neutral.

I can see FineWoven cases being quietly dropped next year. If, like the iPhone mini, they don't sell because of this controversy and their poor quality, Apple won't continue making them.
They can cease production and stop selling that garbage next week. No one (in their right mind) would buy that.

Right, that's why Apple replaced the stainless steel in the iPhones Pro with more expensive titanium at the same prices. 🙄
Right, are you sure? I happen to know that certain Titanium alloys are softer than certain stainless steel alloys. As a result, some Titanium alloys are much easier to machine, surface, etc. So there could be manufacturing cost savings among other savings depending on the manufacturing specifics.

So do you have some specific manufacturing knowledge to back up this statement?

Back to topic

Steve Jobs once said “they’ll take what we give them “

These cases are a perfect example of what Jobs said and drilled into Cooks head

These cases are inferior, have a lifespan of maybe a month and to put it bluntly are a piece of Crap
Even the Apple Store employee uttered the phrase ‘ another one’

Would people buy a BMW without the Luxury Leather it comes with
Simple answer…No

Apple better start thinking about the customer as well as Mother Nature. Why would Apple leave the Silicon iPhone cases which are more toxic to the environment than Leather
Have no fear somebody else will be making Leather cases for iPhones soon..so Apple accomplished nothing other than losing sales and pissing Off customers

I ordered the black case for my phone and was hopeful. But after I got it, it felt so cheap to me in my hand. The feeling of the material was also unsettling. I am returning it when I pick up my phone tomorrow.

What is everyone getting so hot and bothered about. The raggedy/retro/vintage/worn look is Haute Couture. Apple is just keeping you fashionable. If anything, they should raise their prices for being your Couturier for all things in vogue, thereby ensuring you are fancy.
