The apple 30% margin premium has long needed to come down. Back when they were innovating constantly maybe it was worth it. Now they have become a phone company that still thinks they should be able to command a ridiculous premium on even their ******** products like cases and watch bands. With that much money in the bank its time they pass along some savings to customers. Stop gouging people on everything.

The silver lining of them discontinuing the mini is that I no longer feel the desire to upgrade my phone. Thanks for saving me hundreds of dollars, Apple!

While I’m not thrilled about FineWoven, someone taking a fingernail and scratching it and complaining is like dropping a phone on the ground and complaining about the glass shattering. That is not normal wear and tear and doing the same to a leather case, the same thing happens.

Not really. It shows how easily it scratches and the difference to leather is that it STAYS. On leather you can actually sort of „rub it“ away. Do you never throw your phone in a bag with your keys? Good luck with this kind of case.

It already scratches by simply putting it in your pants pockets from rubbing against your pants! Saw a guy on YouTube showing it

This apparent aversion to logos on everything you own is an odd one. To not care about branding is one thing, but you seem to spend an inordinate amount of time actively trying to hide it. Do you also take your cereal out of the boxes when you buy it so you don't have to see the branding? I assure you, there are much more enjoyable and fulfilling hobbies out there to spend your time on, rather than fretting over logos on your things.
I can see it as the “rebel” in them. You know the same way any group of people tries to rebel. They show their hatred for conformity by making themselves conform to the nature of none conforming which makes them look and do what all other non conformers do. Kinda ironic in my mind.

Things I have at home will not be seen by others, but I try to get rid of logos if that is possible without destroying the product. Or just use an unknown brand. That is like having no logo at all. There are just too many people showing off with famous logos and I do not want to be seen as one of them. Some people even love to walk through the city with branded shopping bags from Gucci or whatever brand. That is so sad, because that brand addiction is a huge part of the price. Those people who are willing to pay more just for the logo drive up the price for everyone else. In fashion that is even much worse than in technology. It costs around $15 to produce $500 Prada boots and many people pay the high price for the logo. That is so irrational. It made the guy who owns most of those luxury brands the richest person in the world.
You know you’re basically doing the same thing they are by flaunting the logos. You’re flaunting that you are better than them by hiding them. It’s the exact same reasoning they have. To make themselves look better than others.

Very much a Me Too; I like that they're trying to do something good, but trying and failing doesn't cut it.

I received my case a couple days ago, and was rather shocked at how bad it felt. Nothing at all like I expected, and not a feeling of quality at all. After reading about the so-called "fingernail test", mine went back yesterday, even before getting my phone. In the meantime I bought the cheapest case I could find to tide me over until better options are available.

This means I will have contributed three cases to the environment - a used Finewoven (although in 100% original shape), a temporary cheapie, and whatever my final case ends up being (probably leather from a reputable third-party, not an alphabet soup on Amazon). That's one case that's wasted, one case that's likely wasted - all to avoid leather. Meanwhile, there's been "vegan leather" for ages; why not just use that? It's not as premium as the real thing, but it's a damn sight better than this.

When I opened the Apple FineWoven case package and touched the iPhone case I laughed because I thought someone was playing a joke on me. It's the worst Apple product I've ever purchased. For the first time I will be looking for a third party case, maybe a Nomad case will end up being an option.

Though it's easier to do what they're doing when one has no money I guess lol.

"Back to silicone it is for me."

I've really only ever used silicone cases. The leather cases always seemed to me like they'd be easily damaged and look bad, and they are more expensive. Silicone has a nice feel and even if it gets dinged, what's underneath is just more silicone.
The leather in the early cases was really good. If it got scratched, it would "heal" (not really). The dye in the leather and burnishing from handling would smooth over and fill in the scratch until it was imperceptible for the most part. And it would like a nice worn leather case. Silicone one looked flat and boring to me. I did buy one at one point because I wanted a red phone. I used it for a week and hated it. It was too "sticky". I couldn't slide it in and out of my pocket. I literally got stuck trying to put it to my pocket. After that, I broke down and bought the leather. I'm going to miss the leather, but not as much as if they had discontinued the original ones. The saddle leather ones from a few years back were just great. Anyway, I bought a cheap amazon case for the 15pro to hold me over until I find a suitable replacement.

I talked to Mother nature today.

She was taken aback that ants on one rock are concerned for her survival. She said she makes a billion new worlds every day. Had totally forgotten about this rock, and had assumed all us ants were already extinct.

She tried to cut the call short. I said, “but we are trying to save you. Look at our fine wovens and our EVs.” She said she was here an eternity before we existed, and she will be here a million eternities after we have ceased to exist. She laughed at the thought of an ant trying to save her from anything. She said she had more important things to do… “Building better worlds!”. I tried to ask what sort of iPhone and iPhone case she used, but the line went dead.

Apple should have put Jesus or Elvis on the black one so people could relive the 60's and take their velvet picture everywhere they go!

Bring back leather. The only ethical consideration with leather should be aiming towards the whole buffalo principle. Some business processes with livestock are very inefficient with large amounts of waste. Apple should be sourcing their leather from sources that can achieve or aim for near-zero waste of the carcass.

I can't blame Apple too much for falling victim to these activists though. So many people these days are alienated from the land. Living in concrete jungles where the only green space they see is some contrived man-made park. Their idea of ecological sustainability is at odds with how the natural world works.

Getting an iPhone 15 Pro and just purchased my first non-Apple case. My last 3 phones (7, 10, and 12) were with Apple leather cases.

When I picked my my last apple case for my iPhone 12 Pro several years ago, the Apple retail specialist commented how people almost never move away from Apple leather once they've had them. She said they may change colors, but almost never get a third party one.

Well, I got a third party one yesterday.

Used Spigen Liquid armor cases for a while until I first got to see the  leather cases. Fell in love with them and bought them. After 2-3 years of use it still looks good and feels good in hand. Was never impressed with "finewoven" and after numerous reviews, glad I didn't preorder one. So now, my Spigen Liquid Armor case will be here tomorrow and now I can take my time looking at Nomad Horween leather cases or maybe Bullstrap. But I can take my time now before I buy another leather case, just not one from .

What’s wrong with leather anyway?! It’s a byproduct of the tonnes of beef we all eat. I’d rather leather continue to be made than it go to waste… we’re still eating beef and the cattle are dying in any case. Bring back leather!
Absolutely! Besides, apples leather cases has a tiiiiny layer of leather, its almost everything made in plastic…
It’s not about ecology what Apple makes, it’s just making more profit, and lately it seems it’s not just for the cases but in ever stuff they release

How is this better than leather? It's still a nonrenewable, nonrecyclable plastic case with a thin layer of something glued to it. However instead of silicone rubber or leather (which are at least both renewable and recyclable materials) we have FineWoven - likely a synthetic material made of petroleum.

I've requested to return mine. Apple didn't want it back and refunded the money (it was properly less expensive for them to let me keep it, than paying the return shipping).

You make good points, but every year apple delayed was another year thousands of (now pointless) lightning cables sold. A quick google search tells me apples makes 5 billion a year on lightning cables and mfi certificates.
Apple don't actually release this kind of information, so it's just some persons opinion you're repeating, at best it's a guess, however more likely misinformation to suit a narrative.
People with lightning devises (mostly iPhones) will not be throwing them away, they will be selling them along with the cables!

I have to agree. Got the green one and it looks terrible out of the box. Will be returning it and getting a silicone one for now.
Silicone cases are as bad as that fine woven ones… I’ll never get one again. Leather cases were very decent thought.
