I got my pacific blue case a few days ago and will be returning it. It’s not a good case imo. It feels like a ten dollar Amazon special not a premium case that we are expecting. I ordered a nomad leather case instead. I have a feeling that Apple will either drop this case due to the amount of low sales and returns or offer something else with the 16.

Loved their leather cases and they aged well, but my fine woven is due for return collection tomorrow, so will never even make it onto the new phone. Maybe id keep it if with were £20, but not £60.

Wrong letter industry support meat industry, also there are dedicated leather production, so an entire life is taken for a cover or something crap.
Man, Apple can make millions of iPhone cases with just one cow. It’s not a jacket or car seats, the cases are so thin…

This negative reaction is typical when Apple tries to gas-light their customers. An initial wave of heavy criticism… that then subsides to be replaced with adoration. I’m calling it now… within 6-9 months people will be claiming that these are BETTER than the leather options they replaced.
Lmao. This guy has it figured out! Impressive!

He definitely passed Apple's Marketing 101 class.

Not totally unexpected from Apple's save money at any cost approach to design.
Just like my 2018 iPad Pro, worst iPad I’ve ever had. Bent on its own after Apple stopped the replacement program and that led to easier cracking.

What’s wrong with leather anyway?! It’s a byproduct of the tonnes of beef we all eat. I’d rather leather continue to be made than it go to waste… we’re still eating beef and the cattle are dying in any case. Bring back leather!
the native Americans used every part of the Buffalo. They ate the meat, utilized the skin, and they even used the horns for cups or something. I bought a leather link band from Amazon because they were discontinued and I’m glad I did this! I also have a leather band from Fossil, which I’d recommend as well.

I just find it perplexing that the same design team (I assume) which came up with the imaginative and bold Apple Watch Ultra bands designed this uninspired and subpar case. Or maybe they're saving their best work for iPhone Ultra cases next year 😂

The Apple many of us grew up loving and respecting is dead. I no longer use Apple products because I like them … I use them because they are merely the least terrible in a sea of garbage products
I don't know when you grew up loving Apple, but I've been using their products for more than 40 years, with hits and misses along the way. It took a year for them to get my Apple II Plus working properly, and I've had several laptops with faulty screens that had to be replaced.

My most recent Apple computers, a Mac Studio and the iMac it replaced, have been highly reliable and productive, allowing me to accomplish things I couldn't do with earlier machines. One person's experience shouldn't be generalized, but to say Apple's products are "the least terrible in a sea of garbage" isn't valid.

There are positive opinions out there, too, which were ignored for this article. I like the blue FW case I got. I have no idea how well it'll hold up, but I don't plan on scraping my fingernails up and down the back and then doing a photoshoot so it catches the right angle to show the marks. I do agree that it's overpriced, but that's nothing new with Apple. This is mostly manufactured outrage.
I’m with you on this - all of what you said.

It‘s rather depressing to see so much outrage over a frigging phone case. Even if I didn’t like the new case (and wallet) which I just received, the whole furor is a bit overblown. And that Verge piece is utter clickbait.

Ya see, this is why books have dust covers.

Although I will say a well worn book looks good in its own way.

I 'categorically terribly' agree with these quotes. Leathers are a byproduct and it's a shame that it's going to waste instead of being used for something. I agree with this 'book dust' which is why I hate that kind of 'woven'.

This whole thing seems like green-washing from Apple. Yes, they have now removed some CO2 footprint from their products, but they haven't actually reduced the CO2 from being released.

As a (world) society, we need to eat less meat and especially beef. Cows release a lot of methane (worse than CO2), use up a lot of land and water - and for that those last two don't forget the land and water needed to grow the corn that is fed to cattle in North America. Yes, leather is a byproduct of the cow, but as has been stated above, it keeps the price of the meet down. If leather usage dropped, there would be less revenue per cow so meat prices would have to rise which would lead to less meat being consumed.

There are lots of people doing mental gymnastics, passing off leather as a byproduct or sustainable. It isn't. Just come out and state that you like leather and/or beef rather than trying to convince others (and likely yourself) that industrial cattle farming isn't harming the environment and contributing to climate change.
Do you know how much methane is produced by humans themselves?

Why would people want to buy a case with an Apple logo on it anyway? One of the main reasons for a case besides protecting the phone is hiding the logo. If Apple wants to use MY phone as an advertising space, it should pay for it.
I buy cases to protect my phones from scratches and drops, and I doubt if many people with more than a passing familiarity with smartphones wouldn't be able to pick out an iPhone with a case on it. Most if not all the cases I've had have included the maker's name or logo. Should I have demanded a rebate because of the advertising?

Right, that's why Apple replaced the stainless steel in the iPhones Pro with more expensive titanium at the same prices. 🙄

And I was eyeing the orange leather case right before they announced killing leather from cases...

leather is self-healing scratches, this isn't. ie this is gonna look like **** within a month and stays looking like ****.

That's the reason why leather is such a good product for protection phones or other stuff. That's the worst part Apple acting like we just use leather for fun when in actually it is used because it's genuinely a very good material for a phone case if not the best.

And yes tanning leather is a very bad thing for the environment but Apple was already working with ECCO which is one of the forefront runners in eco- 'less unfriendly' tanning + leather itself is for the vast majority a byproduct of 'making' meat.

I really can't see this being anything other than virtue signalling without making an actual change to mother nature.
It’s also possible the price of the leather went up to the point where it dug into the level of profit margin they target. Kinda like how the mcrib only shows up at mcdonalds when pork prices hit certain levels
