Could the complaints about screen savers working fine at first then later exhibiting problems actually be the iPad itself and not the screen saver?

This is a legitimate point. I’m wondering if it has to do with a electrical/shorting issue potentially caused by the Apple Pencil charging plate/area on the iPad. What people are observing is remarkably consistent.

It does also make me also wonder if Apple “engineered” this incompatibility with screen protectors to not only increase repair revenue but shorten the upgrade cycle for customers who drop their iPads. Folks def hold onto iPads much longer than phones.

I suspect class attorneys will be on top of this and #bendgate in the near future. I normally wouldn’t join in but I’m sick of Apples BS lately. I definitely don’t appreciate them telling me how it is when we know its a crock, especially the VP of Engineerings pathetic explanation on #ipadbendgate. Innovation and customer commitment is dying under the vine under Tim.

I looked through various posts but have not read the entire thread.

I have the Skinomi Tech glass protector. For me, the issue goes away when I touch the metal bezel. This is why it is often better for people when holding it versus lying flat on a table. Give it a shot. I also noticed a friend doesn’t have the same issues as I do on my device. I think body chemistry may have some effect. I know I have very dry skin.

I can mostly scroll, but typing by finger can be problematic and definitely pinch to zoom. The bezel thing is definitely odd.

Both sizes of iPad are affected?

amFilm Glass Screen Protector for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JQ3YZT7?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Best tempered glass I’ve tried so far. For the. 11 inch pro. It’s a little quirky with the Screen response every now and then. But not as bad as the other 3 I’ve already tried. Proper cut outs. You can see that it is a little thinner than the others I’ve tried. Makes a better user experience by being a little thinner. In my opinion.

With reference to an earlier post alleging all sorts of things against MediaDevil and those who have posted positive reviews of them, sorry to disappoint but I have no connection whatsoever with them other than having been a satisfied customer for many years.
Written on an IPP 11 working perfectly with the MediaDevil non glass screen protector.

Have had a MediaDevil protector on my IPP 11 for 3 months now. No issues in any orientation, case, no case, Pencil fine.
Just installed my MediaDevil after failure with pretty much every glass protector on the market. EXACTLY the same touch problems - lie it flat, scrolling doesn't work properly; pick it up, fine again. For me, MediaDevil is no better than the rest. More money down the drain. From now I'm going naked unless and until absolute *proof* that something out there works!

Strange, I get it every time when I lay it flat

I have used media devil and I am now currently on Supershieldz matte screen protector and from personal experience I can promise you that you can use it anyway you want and there will be not touch issues. I have had the same problem of scrolling when laying it flat but with the supershieldz there's "NO touch sensitivity issue". It works just like without a protector.

Sorry, have you seen the reviews on Amazon? No way I'm risking yet more money. Maybe you're having a good experience - loads of people are not.

I have seen the reviews, but you got to show me a review where it says that touch sensitivity is affected. All the negative reviews are for it being a plastic sheet or the fact that it takes a bit away from the retina display clarity or that its not case friendly but it doesn't affect the touch.

Is it possible for this issue to get worse?

My launch day 3rd gen 12.9 seems to be getting worse with scrolling and tying. My glass screen protector came in from Amazon the day before the iPad arrived. Fit is great. In the beginning touch issues seems very minimal unless the iPad is laying flat without me touching it. I’m now having issues no matter how I’m using or holding my iPad.

I have Apple care+ but I hate scratches on my screen.

Sigh. So no clear winner then. I don’t want ANY loss of response.

I’ve gone naked since day one, & despite me being careful, I’ve found 2 fine scratches on the screen. Sure, they’re only visible when light hits at a certain angle, but these are the things I want a screen protector to absorb, so I was hoping to find one that people are seeing absolutely no loss of response with in ALL situations...

The updated Jettech tempered glass screen protector seems to have solved the problem.

I had the first and 2nd gen jettech screen protector for the 11inch and both caused touch issues. However I just dropped my iPad and cracked the 2nd gen protector. Luckily the protector totally saved the screen. I have just bought their 3rd try which I noticed is now listed with decent reviews (unlike the previous attempts) and 2018 tacked onto the end of the name.

I have now had it installed for 24hours and so far so good. Perfect response just like my 10.5 inch. However, as the screen protector adhesive is a major issue for the 11inch causing touch response to become worse over time I will hopefully report back in a few days to see if the issue is truly fixed.

Not sure if ANY screen protector can be deemed successful if the underlining problem is the iPad itself wherein it works perfectly for ‘awhile’ then the screen/touch problems begin to creep in regardless if naked or a screen protector is in place.

Can those using ‘successful’ screen protectors chime in with how long it has continued to work flawlessly?

I have a brand new Pro 11 (received it last week) and ordered the touted MediaDevil. It’s a nice screen protector, though as others have mentioned it gathers a lot more fingerprints than my other oleophobic tempered glass protectors.

However, I’m experiencing touch screen sensitivity issues with it, seemingly in particular when using either my thumbs (seems less responsive with the flat of my thumbs versus the tip) or it seems when I brush the screen with the side of a finger.

Responsiveness with the pencil is great.

Welp. Just returned a ZAGG tempered glass screen protector after using it for literally 20 minutes. Every few seconds, the iPad (new 11in Pro) would fail to respond to touch...almost like the iPad was frozen for a few seconds, and then regain responsiveness. It didn’t break FaceID, but the constant unresponsive hiccups were enough. I took it off and took it right back. Amazingly....the unresponsivness hasn’t returned since I took the thing off.

Just my experience. Not using a screen protector this generation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My screen works great after the newest update, It wasn't terrible by any means before, just here and there having to re-type a letter, but now its perfect... *knock on wood.
I have AMFilm on mine I believe.

Kallum.
By latest update do you mean 12.1.4 or 12.2 beta? There’s absolutely no indication that Apple did anything new in 12.1.4 other than fixing the FaceTime bug

This is my exact experience also. I had the JTech tempered glass protector installed and it worked ok except for the fact it couldn’t register my thumb on its side - or the side of any other finger. All fingertips and thumb tips worked fine though and even the sides of thumbs and fingers registered if you touched the metal band of the iPad with your other hand.

It was annoying enough to want to try and find a screen protector that worked properly, however. I also wasn’t keen of the feel of the Pencil against glass (I’ve only used film protectors with previous generations).

Skip forward to me having read this entire thread and I decided to order the MediaDevil Ultra Tough seeing as they claimed there are no problems with it on the 11”.

Well, there ARE problems with it. In fact, it behaves in the exact same way as I described above with the JTech. Flats of thumbs and fingers do not work unless you are touching the side of the iPad with your other hand. So if you’re happy with the JTech and like how the Pencil feels with the glass, then stick to that. (It is also excellent at repelling fingerprints).

If, however, you don’t like the feel of the Pencil against glass and prefer the feel of a film protector, then go for the MediaDevil. But bear in mind it’s incredibly expensive for what it is. And it does not work as claimed. And, as mentioned below, it attracts a hideous amount of fingerprints!

EDIT:Well that attempt to post a video went completely wrong! My ham fingeredness strikes again as I was trying to upload a clip showing my IPP 11 with MediaDevil protector working fine with edge and flat of thumb. Defeated.....

It has worked fine for 3 months, not doubting anyone’s issues but does make me wonder if perhaps there are are other factors affecting individual iPads.
