Similarly, a few weeks ago I said I had a new laptop computer. In fact this was my BBC laptop, and I hated it, and largely because it was a PC made by someone like Bashito. I grew up in computers with an Apple Macintosh, and therefore don't like the business-suit grey of the PC, or the rattle of its keys, or the meanness of its on-screen typefaces, or the way it calls itself "my computer", or that silly little nipple that controls the cursor. And if I heard that Intel jingle one more time I would have walked into the nearest McDonald's with my Beretta and wasted a party of tourists before turning the weapon on myself.
So I handed it back, went into town and bought an Apple laptop in icy white. I immediately preferred it; the bold icons familiar from the big desktop version, the chunky menus, the simple major triad it plays softly on start-up. I liked it so much I bought a poncy felt-lined carrying case for it, even though it would fit easily into my existing manbag. I've only had it two days and I've already cleaned the screen and dusted the keyboard with my paintbrush.
