My brother signed up for this app and he lives in Malaysia and its asking him for a 3 digit code which is not being sent to him so he cant use this app. Why is it asking for a 3 digit code when users in Australia or U.S dont have have this and they can get access immediately?

Am I missing something?

.

Hmm kind of odd why you would want a phone verification for a free app for a messenger. Can be quite annoying esp when it doesn't send the verification even trying a few times. So obviously something is broken. Anyways I will have my Bro email with all the details.

It'd be good if this app has some sort of location requesting of a contact. For instance a push notification could be sent to the contact informing them whose requesting it and to open the app so the gps can be activated and location sent. Since this app already has privacy settings perhaps this can be used to distingush who is allowed to request your location and who isn't.

So the app is always "logged on" if I understand everything right? Any ideas as to what toll this could take on battery life, if it's always pulling status updates and waiting for new WhatsApp contacts to bring into the favorites list??

I think this app is great! I have stopped texting my friends with iphones (hope to do the same withe those who have a blackberry). It works for me because I'm on PAYG so saving the pennies for actual phone calls rocks rather than eating up my credit on text messages. the push notification works quite well with this app, much better than ebay (absolute shambles) by the way!

Cannot wait for future updates, and to see what this app will flourish into, really enjoying it, thank you developers!

Well he sent the email and still nothing back. Can you please get back to him as he would like to try this app.

Also any reason for various verifications?I am kinda hesitant to tell all my friends if this is going to be hassle to get just one verification done and it takes days.

Will we ever be able to chat with blackberry users? This would definetly be nice. Almost similar to blackberry messenger...but cross platform

Any more on this? He still hasnt got a reply from you guys. Wish you could speed things up. Please let me know today?

Never mind, I have asked my brother to switch to Ping! as its a lot more convenient and doesn't require all this confirmation codes etc and imo slightly better app.

Hey, since Canadians do not have unlimited data, should we be concerned about data usage? I mean, is it like 1 MB per sent/received text, 1 MB per push?

TIA

no, not 1MB, lol..

push is a few hundred bytes and that comes from apple, which makes me think it is not even counted towards your data plan (otherwise wouldn't apple say that push is not free?)

our messages are also a few hundred bytes in length, but definitely not 1MB and not even 1KB:)

how come no unlimited data plan though for an iPhone? that is like buying a ferrari and installing show tires with chains on it:)

Most people don't really need unlimited data. I have 500MB a month and have never gone over and I use my iPhone a lot! I would be pissed if the only available data plan was $30 for unlimited when I don't need it. As it is I pay that for my whole iPhone plan, including data, calls and texts.

Used this app, sent about 5 messages and was deleted about 5 mins later. Reason: no landscape keyboard. I have the portrait version, with this it would rock. Please correct me i there is an option to turn it on!

Thanks for the quick reply! Last question: I'm in Canada on a limited data plan (500 MB/mo.). When I send a text to someone in the States, does it use more data vs. texting someone locally?

TIA

nope, it doesn't matter who you talk to or where they are -- the amount of data is the same.

btw, you can go into 'iPhone Settings > General > Usage > Reset Statistics' and reset your data counters and use only whatsapp for a few hours and see how much data it uses (but keep in mind iPhone itself also uses network data for things like time sync, connection to apple for push notifs, email pull/push, etc..)
