Definitely some stuttering coming from window server and seems to get worse on catalyst or how many catalyst apps are open

Windowserver is not consuming CPU for me, but gobbles up more "cached" RAM than ever (like 20 GB), "purgable" RAM that can't be "purged" and that just sits there for no reason and is of no use. It prefers keeping this useless cache for as long as possible, and "compresses" and swaps before it even considers letting it go.

You can explore this insane behavior with a (homebrew) command like stress:

stress -m 1 --vm-bytes 55G --vm-keep

I've already flagged it via Mac OS feedback but its good to know others are replicating it across different machines and not just intel.

Just reinstalled my MacOS today from scratch.
It's clearly a bug...problem persists.

Thanks, I filed the report too.

I would really like to understand more about cached files and compressed RAM to see if I can see any correlation...

No need to try and understand it, it's a bug. Everyone needs to file a report. I've done so a couple times. If everyone in the thread submits feedback, as well as a slew of others it'll be fixed quicker

Some are reporting it appears on m1's.
I saw my window server consume nearly 2GB of memory earlier and things got very choppy.

I'll be happy when this is resolved

is it unoptimized graphics drivers or a bug in the animation itself you think?

I really don't have a clue.
Since the M1 is a different architectur, it's a good question.

This seems to get progressively more laggy over time too, after a few days I find myself having to reboot.

Same here have a M1 8/8/512 Air and safari scrolling is choppy

I have a 2020 base Air i3 and it’s smoother running Catalina in side by side comparison in safari.

ive been booting back into Catalina recently because of this.

Everything else has been quite alright for a x.0(.1) release surprisingly even battery is similar on my 2020 i5 Air, perhaps even a bit better than Catalina ever was.

FWIW - I had choppy animations after updating this weekend. I noticed it for a couple of days and then boom - back to buttery smooth.

I upgraded from Catalina to 11.0.1 on a 16" MBP.

Yes I have it on either cards. some reported even a clean install still having the issue so I've been reluctant to reload everything again. But general system performance has been poor.

anyone noticed it seems worse when the machine is busy.

IE: copying some files to an external drive, try running your mouse along your dock and see it stutter...

Definite graphics lag, even on a Mac Pro with Vega II and 32GB of ram ... not surprised you'd need to use discreet as there's probably a memory leak in the window server or something else going on.

I notice sites with a lot of video ads (ex. slickdeals) tend to really slow down my M1 MBA. Even after a clean install the problem comes back also when connecting to monitor the whole UI is choppy and inconsistent, graphics issue?
