I still say that was the problem as this was told by a actual employee at apple and even apple took a lot of my tear downs on the phone from YouTube but what I found was it indeed was a diff chip than the x and 8 and 7 so it has to be a newer chip in the xs and xs max but I can say the restore did not totally fix the issue but it made it a hell of a lot better and thanks dj for the phone to tear down so I’m still unsure about the whole chip thing but it could have happened a lot of phones have diff hard ware and screens and ea one has to have a driver for that hardware so if it was a diff Chip software should be able to fix it they just have to tweak drivers etc. but so far even swaps don’t work and if u swap it u will get a brand new device not a refurb. That is 100percent for sure I know a guy who works at apple store and he said there is not enough time for the xs to have any refurbs there All brand new so the phone I swapped was a good phone just software issues.

The XS max uses a power management chip designed by Apple. Previous phones used a third party one. These chips are located directly on the battery and have no impact on what cores to use. This is all managed by the built-in neural processing engine located in the CPU.

Ok, so just reset my phone to factory and set up as new. I still experience the same stuttering.
Yep for some reason the one I restored set up as new must have been indexing files in the background now it does it again wtf is wrong with u apple new phone new everything now it started up again this is so stupid. It seems if stuff is downloading in back ground or stuff is going on it plays fine spins everything stableizes is starts it again hence power management chip or processor is not right whether it’s hardware software who knows but his is so stupid on a 2 grand device

Yea I’m getting it to but mine didn’t start till day half later my wife’s is still fine for now it will be back in sure of it I have 300gb used of the 512 so I’m thinking it was indexing files in background prob a long time then it starts acting stupid u less the restore set it straight for a while then it acts up again who knows but it’s a stupid problem to have I know that much
[doublepost=1540250876][/doublepost]Seems I know why it fixed it the new auto brightness software is not turning off during video playback. To confirm hdr ans well and all hd movies the auto brightness turns off on iPhone 8plus when watching videos the screen won’t dim at all u have to do it manually so seems they need to disable auto brightness on this and it will work so if they can maleness it where the auto brightness don’t try to adjust the brightness during video playback then all should be well again but I keep having the issue where my top speaker stops working as well at random strange

Your wrong the pmc is sandwiched in between the logic board it’s a chip on the main board there is not chips on the battery or in it. Go to I fix it and watch the Teardown the power management chip is near the a12. No way would they put a chip on or in the battery

Anyone getting the XR on friday? Will be interesting to compare the performance.

Do you think it will experience the stutter issue even though it does not support true HDR and is an LCD?

Quick question for everyone experiencing this issue, do you have a full screen protector (covering the sensors/front camera) on your Xs? Do you think that can have an issue with the auto-brightness/HDR functionality? I have a full screen glass protector, I mean everything seems to work flawlessly, just wondering if anyone has experience without the sensors covered up. Thanks.

No screen protector. Lots of people have said in store demo units exhibit the same behaviour

i tried lost in space in Netflix s1 between the 37 abd 38th minute mark, and i definitely saw some kind of slowdown/stuttering issues, and I have seen this effect in altered carbon too.

Are my eyes deceiving me or are you experiencing the same?

Btw I can’ t enable hdr in the YouTube app, tried a dozen 4K hdr clips, but there is no option to turn it on anywhere, just 1080p60, no hdr. Any tips?

Do you have to change the resolution on youtube to 1080p60 on every video from lower res or does it remains the same once you change it? When i had max whenever i use to play video it started with 720P then i needed to change the Res to full manually. I have fast internet.

Yes i do, when i open YouTube , it automatically sets it to 720p, I have to change it manually to 1080p.
But you can’ t always switch to 1080p60, sometimes /most of the time you can only select 1080p. That is 1080p24 or 1080p30. Only if it states 1080p60 it is at 1080p60.

i wanted iphone or youtube to save my selection to 1080p not necesarily 1080p60 or 24 or 30. Because then i forget to chnage and later i find out i watched it 720p :) btw i haven't find much difference in 1080p or 720p videos on Xs Max & iPhone 8

I dont have any issues mentioned. My youtube will run automagically to 1080p on both wifi and cellular.

Netflix all smooth and freaking amazing quality.

Im running 12.1 beta 5

I got the Xr today and I did a quick test with Netflix watching Lost in Space and there is no stuttering in the same parts as the standard Xs had. I have not really been following this topic since I returned Xs but I was wondering if it could be caused by HDR content? If there are other content in Netflix I could test I can do that.

I'm still installing some of the software on the background and will test again after its finished to make sure that the CPU load does not affect performance.

And just in case it matters phone is currently using wifi and all the standard settings such as auto brightness and truetone.

What version of iOS does it ship with?

I didn’t get to do much testing in store today. A lot of people crowding over the XR. I did turn on auto brightness and 4K/24fps on the camera. But when testing the camera, I may have been on photo mode and not on camera.

Anyway from what I saw, there was no stuttering, again I may have been on the wrong mode. This was the 64GB model running iOS 12.0.

Hopefully others with the XR can report back to us regarding Netflix/hdr content.

Guys, I had done a 24 hours logging process with Apple senior advisor. After sending the logs to their engineering team, the advisor called me and told me the feedback from engineering team, they are aware of this issue and it is an iOS issue, asked me to hold on till the major 12.1 iOS update to fix it.

Thanks for the update. Very relieved it is an iOS issue. Any news on when 12.1 will hit?

Did some further testing and there is still some random stuttering present when watching Netflix on Xr. Though it is nowhere as bad as it was with Xs. Great that it is something which will be fixed in update.
