I use Opera, Safari, Chrome, and Firefox all for different things. Safari is the fastest and most secure, draws the least energy, and is my primary. But if I want to watch movies On-Line then Chrome works the best(although I periodically have to Force Quit it when obnoxious stuff takes over the program. If I want to save videos or music off of YOU-Tube, then fire fox is better. And if I want to get some news that some news services say I've exceeded their free news stories for the month, then sometimes I can see the story by launching Opera.

Have you guys noticed faster battery drain with iCloud syncing Safari on your iPhone on Mac? I recently turned on iCloud for Safari and it seems that my iPhone's battery drains faster now. Any insight on this?

I don't want to start a war here, just interested in your perspectives. I've been using Chrome for the past couple of years, but am revisiting Safari now. Two of the features that drew me back were picture-in-picture video, and Apple Pay. I also really like Safari's reader feature and the ability to easily save articles and read them on other devices (though I've been using Instapaper on Chrome / iOS for this, which also works well).

Seems like Safari is pretty fast, but Chrome maybe still a bit faster? There are a lot more extensions available in Chrome as well.

One issue is that I can't get Safari to automatically open PDFs that I've downloaded, despite the fact that I have "Open safe files after downloading" checked in Safari's preferences. Does that work for you?

Would love to hear others' experiences with latest versions of each of these browsers. Thanks.

On my mac, I use Chrome mainly as it syncs my passwords really easily with my other devices cross-platform. I just log in to any platform and have all of my passwords. In school, however, often times I have to read old websites from the 90s with crappy readability. In that case, I will use safari with reader mode. On my mobile devices, I mainly use Safari though I think I am going to switch back to Chrome for the password sync.

I use Safari 95% of the time. Firefox occasionally. I have Chrome, but only because it apparently is required to use Google Earth. I make sure it is turned off except when I'm using Google Earth. It definitely taxes the CPU more than the other browsers.

I used to prefer Safari but since a couple of months I'm back to chrome (only on my iMac, Safari is still my first choice on iOS). Chrome is definitively quicker than Safari and have better extensions useful for me like Deluminate (its just like smart invert colours on iOS 11, but for chrome on the computer, awesone)

For CPU usage, I don't see any difference between the two so if it take more, it's not a problem for me.

which explains its popularity...oh wait
Update - I've switched from Safari to Chrome on Mac and iOS. The utility of the extensions was too strong to resist.

The only thing I miss is the reading list. Chrome doesn't have that so I'm playing with using Pocket as a poor substitute.

I can not stand using Safari on my Mac Pro and iPhone. The way bookmarking works causes the utmost aggravation. It's not a simple process to save a bookmark and put it in a new folder. Sorting bookmarks is also a problem. Bookmarks get deleted. Sorting reverts back to they way they were. I've tried many time to get them to sync and work properly. I am therefore done with Safari. Both Chrome and Firefox work flawlessly.

Right now, I'm using Safari, but seriously thinking of going to Firefox! Safari seems to have trouble with too many sites that Firefox doesn't. When I have a problem with a site in Safari I switch to FF and boom.

When I read manga, safari would sometime get "stuck" and refuse to load. Chrome loads faster for me to read thru hundreds of pages of manga.

I normally use Safari on both iMac and iOS devices. But I do have a desktop set up with FireFox on my iMac that I use as a backup, as sometimes Safari seems to have an issue with certain sites. FireFox seems to always work. FireFox also has a very fast and convenient notification and install method for updates. And, they seem to be on top of things in terms of issuing updates when needed.
