Here is my new setup. This summer I had plenty of time to redo my room here at the fraternity.

1.67GHz 15' PowerBook
20" Cinema Display
160GB External FW 800
16x DL Lacie Burner
34" Panasonic HD WS TV
HD Tuner/DVR from Cox
Pioneer Divx comp. DVD player
Onkyo 1000W 7.1 Surround Sound

Also on the left is my Hookah brought back from Egypt for some extracurricular activities ;).

I figured if I'm going to be in this frat for the next 1.5 years I should make it nice and cozy.

Must be a nice frat. I have never seen a frat with cinderblock wall and nice big windows.

Actually we have one of the sh*tiest ones on campus. All the houses used to be equally as bad but many have had renovations over the years, we are one of the few who haven't undergone renovations. Our house hasn't been redone for about 50 years but I think that allows for much of the fun we have. If something breaks or damages it really doesn't matter cause this place is falling apart :)

My bed room is my dorm room since I am a commuter (I live less than 10 minutes away from campus). Anyway, here is my current setup-

Power Mac G5 2.3GHz DP
19" Trinitron Monitor (soon to be replaced with a 20" ACD)

HP Pavilion ZV5000 notebook 15.4" LCD w/ Athlon 64 3000+ CPU

N64, Gamecube, Xbox hooked up to my 27" TV

My trusty HP deskjet 5150 printer!

And a bunch of other electronic toys and gizmos (ie- iPod Mini, Dell Axim, etc...)

Wow, some pretty nice setups here so far. Where do you guys get the $$ for all this + tuition etc?!

I'm just learning what "Student Loans" are all about.

Anyway, so it seems that the 15" powerbook is the more popular and recommended way to go. Must be worth the extra $200-$300? I'm just wondering though, those with 15" PB's, do you ever take them out of your room? And if they do go to class, how often do you use them? Thanks!

I'm starting to think that many people get a 12" thinking they'll take it to class everyday, and find out that they don't take it and use it as much as they thought.

Replies to questions about my PowerBook and dorm...

Thanks to all who liked my setup. :)

That's nice.....how did you brake the PB
In that same dorm room (I lived in a different dorm room with a different, worse set up later in the year), I accidentally tripped over the power cord while talking to one of my friends and it dragged the PowerBook over the desk's edge and down it went. Splat. PowerBook's LCD is totally cracked. Luckily I had my 23" so I continued to use it as it was. Then the hard drive failed hard on me one morning. Now I'm back home in North Carolina with the same said PowerBook and it's running off a FireWire hard drive and the same 23" screen. *sigh*

That's a nice looking room/setup, but I'm curious if the air unit you're sitting next to has any adverse affect on your computers. Or do you just enjoy the refreshing air blowing on you!?
I rarely had the air unit on anyway. I moved in a new room (a week or two after I broke my PowerBook, ironically) and didn't have it next to the air unit in the new room.

Id think if anything the air would help keep the computers cool in the summer.
Yeah, well I don't live in Rochester for the summer, but might next summer; I'll have my own apartment starting this fall, though. No more dorms (thank God, I didn't like dorms myself especially at RIT with a bunch of other deaf people, was annoying at times). But I do live in North Carolina and air conditioning is almost a must if you want your computers to survive. :) My Athlon PC worked at about 40 degrees C in normal air conditioned room, but shot up to ~70 degrees C in non-air conditioned room. Yeow.

Dude that looks like a coil, hot water heater. Dont think any cool air comes from that old thing. Hint, he's not staying in a house, its a dorm. So when a vent like that is coming up from the floor, its a heater. Thats my guess, as old apartments always used this method.
Cool air comes out of it. You don't control if it's heating or cooling--RIT housing does that for you and it's annoying at times, like last fall it was extremely cold for one week and they had it on cooling and decided to turn on the heat on the weekend, only to have a hot week in Rochester the week after. I worked over the summer of 2004 to earn all the money I needed to buy my 23". One of the best purchases ever. I love it to death.

Thanks all for the compliments, again. I wish I had the same setup. Oh well, I'm going to grab a dual 2.7 GHz Power Mac before going off to college this August and wait for an Intel PowerBook to replace this. Will post new setup once I get there!

Here is mine. I don't live in a dorm, but do live in a one bedroom apt. with my wife so space is so
cramped that I am on the kitchen table. I never had my powerbook when I was in the dorms, but
I sure do wish I would have. I had a huge monitor that my dad got from his work for free with a
huge pc sitting on the ground.

Crazydreaming: I love my 12" powerbook. It is a rev A and gets a little hot, but only when really
working the hard drive. I plan on purchasing a new powerbook for the fall and was debating
between a 12" SD w/ 20" dell or a 15" SD powerbook. I am by no means a power user. I only
use iMovie and iDVD every so often. I accually used them on my current powerbook and it was really slow,
but with a little patience I got through it. I find the 12" screen
to be more than enought when working at school. I love how small it is. I had an english course
where about 7 people all had big windows laptops and I was very glad that I had my little 12"
to write papers with. With expose I think a 12" is great for short work.

I do, however, wish I had a bigger screen when working at home. Everyonce in a while I catch
myself leaning really close to the screen to read what is on there. That is why I will be getting
a 20" dell lcd. I can never go back to a crt after working with an lcd. I can barely stand it with
my xbox hooked up to one.

After all that I recomend getting a 12" because it is great for use on the really small desks
that are in most lecture halls. I noticed that most people that use laptops in lecture classes and
have larger screens have to sit in the back at tables. The 12" can also be used with a larger
monitor if you plan on working on something that you feel you need more space. I am not sure what model you will be looking at purchasing, but they are all great computers and should be plenty of power for you.
I would also recomend getting a BT mouse
and keyboard. Then you could just hook up the monitor and use the monitor only as your display.
Then have a reliable wireless mouse and keyboard.

Anyway... Here is my set up.

Heres my setup for now. Note the wireless headphones. Perfect for latenight studying. :D

Those pistons look bad ass.....Very artsy lol
I used to work in a repair shop during high school. "A" is what a Ford piston looks like after a chunk of metal somehow gets in the chamber. "B" is what is what the other pistons looked like. Pretty nasty.

A must be my car....

is my setup. missing just to the left of the Powerbook is my much loved iPod mini and my Pocket PC.
i live at home still. i'm only 10 or so miles from Manchester so its just an hour on the bus versus having to take out more of a student loan, missing my mums cooking and well yea.

note the lack of mouse. I've been using my Logitech V500 with my laptop PC for making my games over the summer and i've just become to accustomed to the Powerbook trackpad. its brilliant

edit: see that amp? you won't find one of those around. my dad paid about £250 for that in the 70's, the guy he bought it off had gutted some much more expensive dual mono amps and threw them inside that. amazing amp. its sweet sounds make me cry

What exactly do you use your Canon equipment for? That's a lot of fine glass for a college student....

I place them stratigicly to burn ants...kinda like a magnifine glass thing...... :)

Looks like your parents wouldn't mind buying them for you. Just ask ;)

here's my old one before I moved house. I am lucky enough to afford everything I need and not live on campus. But then again I am a bit older than most of you.

I have the same bed as you. In fact, I have the whole HOPEN bedroom collection...gotta love IKEA. :D Great setup, 350z is my favorite car, I dont know if the model you have there is the Fairlady, but it is definitely one of the greatest cars Nissan has ever made, if not the best.
