Here is mine. I don't live in a dorm, but do live in a one bedroom apt. with my wife so space is so
cramped that I am on the kitchen table. I never had my powerbook when I was in the dorms, but
I sure do wish I would have. I had a huge monitor that my dad got from his work for free with a
huge pc sitting on the ground.
Crazydreaming: I love my 12" powerbook. It is a rev A and gets a little hot, but only when really
working the hard drive. I plan on purchasing a new powerbook for the fall and was debating
between a 12" SD w/ 20" dell or a 15" SD powerbook. I am by no means a power user. I only
use iMovie and iDVD every so often. I accually used them on my current powerbook and it was really slow,
but with a little patience I got through it. I find the 12" screen
to be more than enought when working at school. I love how small it is. I had an english course
where about 7 people all had big windows laptops and I was very glad that I had my little 12"
to write papers with. With expose I think a 12" is great for short work.
I do, however, wish I had a bigger screen when working at home. Everyonce in a while I catch
myself leaning really close to the screen to read what is on there. That is why I will be getting
a 20" dell lcd. I can never go back to a crt after working with an lcd. I can barely stand it with
my xbox hooked up to one.
After all that I recomend getting a 12" because it is great for use on the really small desks
that are in most lecture halls. I noticed that most people that use laptops in lecture classes and
have larger screens have to sit in the back at tables. The 12" can also be used with a larger
monitor if you plan on working on something that you feel you need more space. I am not sure what model you will be looking at purchasing, but they are all great computers and should be plenty of power for you.
I would also recomend getting a BT mouse
and keyboard. Then you could just hook up the monitor and use the monitor only as your display.
Then have a reliable wireless mouse and keyboard.
Anyway... Here is my set up.
