A lot of mechanical watch people would say the exact same thing you are saying about the Apple watch. A beautiful mechanical watch is more of a statement. The Apple watch is just the same watch that everyone else is wearing. In fact its one of the things I hate in that we are all walking around wearing the exact same watch. With mechanical watches there is an individualism to them and they aren't just mass produced items that everyone from your grandmother to your 12 year old niece is wearing. I guarantee you that today, I will come across no less than 30 or more people who are wearing the exact same watch as me. I love the Apple Watch but I only wear it as a utility watch that I can beat up and don't really care about.

Don't get me wrong, I do love the AW, in fact I have two of them. But I only wear them as a daily wear because I sometimes and dealing with medical equipment that can beat up a watch pretty badly and I don't really care if the AW gets nicked up as it is in the end a disposable item that has little meaning to it.

The Apple Watch has a finite lifespan and a nice watch can last forever and even be an heirloom that is passed down through generations. To each their own but I'd take a luxury mechanical watch over an Apple Watch any day of the week, and that's coming from someone who owns both.
I couldn’t care less how many other people have my watch. It does 100 useful things for me every day, that’s why I wear it. Spending the price of a car on a status symbol is not for me, but again, not my money.
Apple Watch has stopped innovating for sure. They got to innovate in order for me to ever buy a new Apple Watch again. Specifically, Garmin Forerunner series has L5 GPS and Weeks of battery life, something that Apple does not offer.
Garmin has some great watches. I used to run with Forerunners and wish AW could do a fraction of their battery life. But AW does a lot of things better, including contactless payments, syncing with other devices, and—most importantly for me—LTE. Hard for me to see ever going back to a watch without its own cellular given the way it’s bailed me out on a few notable occasions. Maybe if phones were still small enough to comfortably run with, but those days unfortunately seem to be gone.

I'm on the cusp of buying a Santos De Cartier.

So, my Apple Watch (and 61 straps!) will be laid to rest.

I'm just not sure whether to do it or not?

I love the customisability of the Apple Watch, also little things like unlocking my Macs, Apple Pay etc, but I have always just loved the Santos.

What do you think?

Take care.

I got a Cartos de Santos myself - can’t see myself going back to an Apple Watch.

In your position, I would not switch, ESPECIALLY when I have 61 watch bands, you paid good money for those bands after all.
OP: If you’re into mechanical watches, I highly recommend double-wristing watches. You can wear the Series 10 24/7 and save the other watches for special occasions.

After getting my Apple Watch, I completely ditched my fake Casios in 2017. I even started collecting straps and still haven’t stopped!

I used to have a cheap military watch and ditched it years ago for a $40 smartwatch for a month, and ditched that for an Apple Watch and haven't looked back

Same here. I do have a hello kitty mechanical watch that I only wore for a few times before I got my Apple Watch, alongside a small cheap watch like yours. These ain’t even my favorite watches to wear. Even the hello kitty watches I had lost battery in less than a few months and the mechanical one I had was too big.

If, as your name would suggest, you live anywhere near London I would stick with the AW, I have a couple of nice mech watches that never leave the safe.

The couple of times I have worn them I can’t wait to get back to the AWU I wear all the time.

Yes it is nice to show a bit of bling but in this day and age I really don’t think anybody gives it another look…….apart from the scumbags on electric scooters and bikes robbing people

Sorry, never been able understand why someone would want to put a watch costing a minimum of US$7K on their wrist (I have enough resistance to doing so with an Apple Watch). Too easy to bash it or end up on the wrong end of a mugging and being robbed. But that’s just me.
Same. I appreciate the artistry that goes into nice watches but I’d never feel comfortable wearing anything more than a few hundred bucks regardless of how much money I have.

Beyond the facets of the Apple Watch Ultra’s 2 day battery life?! Ultra already has the more precise GPS tracking capabilities but it does cause a misconception for AWU users who worry about tracking their runs, cycling 🚴, hiking 🥾 and outdoor sports like skiing ⛷️ and snowboarding 🏂.

I have a couple swiss made watches from pre-Apple Watch days. Nothing like the one the OP mentioned, but still I've not worn any of them for 10 years, I had the Apple Watch Series 0.

I just can't give up the little mini computer on my wrist lol.

I have a Rolex and a Tudor, along with three Apple Watches. I go through phases. Recently I have been wearing my Apple Watch mostly, and wearing the mechanical watches once every couple of weeks. Other times through the year, I may wear the mechanical watches for the most part. Whenever I am in a fitness phase, I wear Apple Watches more to track heart rate, steps, etc.

Buy the Cartier and keep your Apple Watch. Apple Watches actually last for a long time, especially if you don’t wear them daily.

This is a great point - I was in Barcelona a few years ago, and some guys made a ham fisted attempt to take my Rolex off my wrist. Since then, whenever I am in an area where I think my watch will garner that kind of attention - or when I travel in general - I usually choose an Apple Watch. No one is attempting to steal them because they are worth so little in the secondary market (LOL)

Not that I have the coin for a Rolex or other watch of that calibre, but if I did, that would be a huge concern too.

I sold all my Panerais, Rolexes after I got my first Apple Watch. Why keep them in the drawer depreciating. Having 6 or 7 complications like stocks, weather, temp, on my wrist trumped the enjoyment of an expensive watch which is really just jewelry.
I absolutely love my Ultra and titanium series Apple Watches

After reading this thread I did some thinking and decided to replace my Apple Watch as well.

Not having quite as much money as OP to piss up the wall, however results in this new watch.

It is admittedly not working for paying for beer. The bar tender just looks at me like I'm a lunatic now when I try and pay with my arm.
