In my case, there is no problem with sleep/wakeup. I get the crash when I shutdown.
me too.

It’s gotta be software, but then how can this bug live on for so long?I too get the issue at the point of shutdown, it will restart, flag up it wasn't shutdown properly and when I immediately shutdown after the initial restart, it will shutdown properly.
Same thing happens since about 3 weeks ago after the latest Mac OS update. My 2019 27" Retina iMac will crash overnight and restart waiting for my login in the morning. The only app running overnight is CCC : Carbon Copy Cloner running my daily backups. It appears to complete with no errors. It suddenly started about a week ago. Every time I leave my 2019 iMac alone for a few minutes (maybe ten or so) it freezes and then restarts. However, it never happens during the time I use it.
There are many threads online about this issue, but no solution yet.
People are observing this issue on a wide variety of hardware. Can some software issue cause hardware failure ?Did a complete reinstall on my MBP 16 - took 2 days to reinstall all my apps etc.
Issue re-occured. Maybe it's software maybe it's hardware, either way it's a ****ing mess.
I'm pushing Apple to replace this, I can't shut the thing down without a panic.People are observing this issue on a wide variety of hardware. Can some software issue cause hardware failure ?
It will come back. I had no crash for 4 days and today it happened.I have slept and woken the computer many times now and it hasn't crashed. Usually I can only do it maybe three or four times, but now I've done it about ten times. No difference in usage pattern compared to the times when it crashed. What the heck is triggering this crash? I don't get it… ?
I always had powernap off. Still crash at shutdown. Though not every time.I am running with PowerNap switched off - and I haven't had a single kernel panic when shutting down for the past few days. PowerNap on it will kernel panic when I shutdown.
Anyone seeing this issue on a replacement?
May I ask what is the name of the Steam Link kext?I was having watchdog crashes (primarily) while the machine was sleeping.
About a week ago, I uninstalled the Kexts for Intel HAXM (virtual machine hypervisor) and Steam Input (used to process input from the Steam Link mobile app) and the crashes have stopped.
Both power nap and put hard disks to sleep are on.
There were 2 for steam, one namedMay I ask what is the name of the Steam Link kext?
SteamInput.kext
and one named SteamInput-DS4v1.kext
. They were in /Library/Extensions/
.How did you identify those two KEXTs as the possible culprit?I was having watchdog crashes (primarily) while the machine was sleeping.

So it seems that it might be hardware-related after all?Disabling Power Nap, Automatic Graphics Switching, and Prevent Computer from Automatically Sleeping only works for a day or two. Apple just replaced my Logic Board under warranty. I have not experienced a Kernel Panic now in 5-6 weeks Looks like Apple has a Logic Board issue with their 16" MacBook Pro . I have seen numerous online posts from other 16” MacBook Pro owners who have been directed by Apple to bring in for repair for Logic Board replacement. Not a cool experience for purchasing a $4000 computer. Apple confirmed that this is a know issue. After asking me to wait for 3 separate operating system updates (February through June) to see if the issue is corrected through software updates, I finally received the approval for repair. Tine to buy AppleCare to protect my investment.
