I have downgraded to Sequoia for the moment. If I have to upgrade to Tahoe, then I’m going to use the Fastmail electron app for my contacts and to work on server rules. It seems to work OK.

The Release version of 26.1 Contacts made substantial improvements to the notes field -- it no longer is a fixed size field with an invisible internal scroll bar, but instead uses the same scrollbar as the rest of the app.

None of the other problems have been fixed -- still flickers; still can't resize the name-list vs. data area; still wastes so much space when there's no image. But it might no longer be so unusable as to be a reason just on its own not to upgrade to Tahoe. Hoping next beta fixes more problems.

I have to agree; visually the new "giant icon" layout is annoying -- I started using company logos where possible ages ago (much better for incoming calls and scanning a very full inbox for emails from a particular company) and the switch from square to circle was annoying enough; now they're gigantic on the screen and blurry. That's just a visual nit, though.

One of the problems I've encountered is a minor one but makes a difference during the workday: used to be that, if you clicked on the "work" address and right-clicked Copy, you'd get the person's name, title, business name AND the business address. Great for copy/paste to a letter or envelope. Now, you just get the address, so there's the need for some back and forth.

Realize that for some, this doesn't even show up on the radar ("letters? envelopes? what are those?") but for work I used this feature countless times throughout the day.

Command plus P inside of the contacts app will give you a printer dialog for an envelope. If you want a return address printed then you need to define a “me” card.

The OS including contacts WAS tested through all the betas. I was one of them. Did I like the previous way messages was set up? Yes. Do I find I can still use contacts well? Yes. The changes are cosmetic basically and trust me, the Mac world went crazy when the settings app was changed. Did the world end? Nope. We found out how  wanted it to work and we learned the new way. If you intend to stay in the  ecosystem you too will come to accept the new way forward. But all the hate and dislike comments will wither away and life will go forward and those of us fully vested in the ecosystem will be happy when the hate mongering goes away so we can get back to actual informative posts.
Right. Tell me how to add a contact to a list please. Lists keep me sane. I'm glad I have an older iPhone that can get the job done. Long time user here with 1,996 contacts. Thinking of switching to Google.

You can still do this easily enough through the web UI at icloud.com. I do it here because I can't figure out how to do it from my iPhone.
Select the contact, Edit. scroll down, there's an "add to list" button.

To add multiple users: tap on the list, tap the + button and select all the contacts you want to add.

Seriously, have you even tried? The iPhone cannot read your mind.

I feel your pain.
I have near 2k customers with a large quantity of notes on them.
Besides the graphics glitches (like the flashing when scrolling), now the Notes field is so small.
I need to do a lot of scrolling to read notes that before were easily visible.
The background color is distracting and unnecessary.

A quick round around for now is to hit Edit, that view is like old times.
All of the above plus its layout takes a ridiculous amount of screen space and it flickers for me all the time when it is on top, not just when scrolling, which is distracting (so I put a window partially covering it to stop this).

Sorry, guys. If you haven't noticed the interface change of Contacts, you clearly don't use Contacts. In both sides, actually: the contact listing and contact data. After 2 days of Sequoia, I can't keep using it. I know, silly, but Contacts is a tool I use almost 24/7 while working since the dinosaur age. Went back to Sequoia today. What a relief.
Was it difficult to downgrade to Sequoia? I have friend who is thinking of doing so because Time Machine backups persistently fail for her after upgrading to Tahoe. How do you downgrade?

Hey there. Not sure if anyone else around here is a heavy user of MacOS' Contacts app. Under Tahoe RC, it's becoming almost useless to me. I'm quite frustrated. Been using Contacts for 15 years, I got more than 6000 records and keep the app always open while working. The interface under Tahoe really sucks big time. I'm devastated.

Yes, I tried BusyContact and Cardhop. They are paid software and present a lot of stuff that I just don't need. I'd gladly pay for any app to give me back the old Contacts interface.

Thinking about going back to Sequoia now.
I concur. What happened? How do we get Apple to spend part of the $4 TRILLION to make it work correctly. Are The Beatles upset the Steve Jobs renigged on his promise not to compromise the Apple brand with bad bug infested untested software versions?

 Do I want a “new” way or a better way? Shouldn’t the beta test focus on usability? Supporting functionality that is proven and works? Improving speed and easy of use? Adding more clicks to do the same functions that used to work in the past is not a better way… definitely a “new” way.

Okay? So what uhh specifically frustrates you with the contacts app? To me it's just fine
App won’t allow attribute values to be copied without going into edit mode. Which creates and unwanted potential to accidentally delete data for no added value. When updating values for the LinkedIn attribute… nothing seems to work. Copy in paste changes the attribute name and added to value in the data store. Not all data is shown in the primary Contact app menu. One must click into the entry to see all of the data in notes. Definitely a bug.

Sorry Marty… I love you man… but you’re fired.

I'm running MacOS 26.2 B3

Which values are you trying to copy?

When I open Contacts, without going into Edit mode, I can drag the cursor over any of the text to copy it, or right click over e.g a phone number and select "copy".

I created a Profile then LinkedIn field and added some stuff into it. Worked ok.

The Notes field is fully visible as the entry is scrollable.

Is there a particular field it's not working on?

I really need to start using a different app entirely.
Anybody know if it's possible to keep using iCloud synced contacts and use a different app to access them?

You can freely go back and forth between the native Calendar app and a third-party calendar app (BusyCal, Fantastical, etc) or between Mail and third-party email apps -- and I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same with Contacts. The Sequoia version is basically unusable as far as I'm concerned. It looks like sh**.

Isn’t that possible with Cardhop?

Contacts is something I would never sync with anyone else’s computer so I can’t tell you for sure but check out the Cardhop or fantastical sub Reddit. They are extremely responsive to questions.

As long as iCloud is still syncing 'Contacts' to / from your Mac, Cardhop will access them.

Its what I'm using until when / should ever Apple ever fix current Contacts.

Does Cardhop from flexbits profit from the data in your contacts to conduct survey or market research, perform data analytics or internal reporting? We don’t know because they are a private company. We know all the big personal data collection companies are in the Fortune 500

I believe they address that in the “how does it work?” Description on their website.

My conclusion was they don’t store anything on their website, but please re-read and tell me if you come to same conclusion.

It doesnt sync properly on iCloud. My iPhone (on 26) and my mac (on 26) and my Vision Pro (on 26) all have different contacts, when I add a new contact on one device it maybe will go to one other device or maybe not at all. Very annoying and frustrating.

Oh and screen time despite "Share with other devices" being on is absolutely not being shared with other devices. Very disappointed in the quality of work from Apple lately.

Ah, looks like it is possible, thanks!

I'm actually now looking at BusyContacts instead, as it's a $50 purchase instead of a $57/year software rental.

(And no, I'm not talking about syncing with someone else's computer, I'm talking about syncing between my own two Macs and my iPhone.)

edit: I downloaded the free version of CardHop and it's got a really awful interface where each contact you click on pops out in a weird little bubble window. What I wanted was a good old 3-column layout, but apparently that's only available on the iPad version. Ah well, looks like BusyContacts it is...
