You just can't sit here and tell me Google and other Android software manufacturers handle OS updates BETTER than iOS because it's not true. I'm not talking about the features of them (I wasn't in the first place), I'm talking about how they handle them.

I didn't say Google does updates better than apple because then I would be an idiot cause its simply not true

What I said is that android already has most (if not all) of the features iOS is getting through updates. iOS 5 getting better notifications, twitter integration and cloud features is another example, where android already had them.

Now iOS 6 gets maps, turn by turn, Facebook integration, etc. Again: all of that is already available on android.

So why complain about updates when you are already far ahead of iOS?

Android has this downside of the updates, of course, but I got tired and burned after seeing my 1 year old iPhone 4 didn't get Siri and that my iPad 1 is already out.

You can get 4 or 5 big updates if you like, but what matters most is getting the true new features. Otherwise, your 1 year old iPhone becomes as old and obsolete as any other 1 year old android phone forgotten by the manufacturers.

The reason is because Android came with all of this stuff in the very first version and the iPhone didn't. Google made Android to compete with iOS and iOS is moving at it's own pace. I think the reason older iPhones don't get the new fancy features is a combination of incapable hardware and marketing. It's the same with Android. I was upset when my not even one year old Galaxy S2 didn't get the new Touchwiz which a dual-core processor can support.

I still think people neglect the fact Android updates native apps outside the OS. Its not uncommon to see an update for the YouTube app or something. I got an update of the Gmail app yesterday. Maps was updated a couple weeks ago. Marketplace was overhauled with Google play.

These apps are updated on all devices regardless of version. If iOS did this there would never been a new version of iOS. If there was it would just be behind the scenes stuff like dual core support and things like that.

I never understood the fascination of needing the latest version. Android apps play better with older versions then newer, iOS doesn't but most devices are on the latest version. Either way both work...

I owned the 1st gen iPhone all the way to iPhone 4. Then I switched to an Android phone (LG G2x) since I'm with Tmobile. At first, I was very happy with my Android phone and after owning it for more than 8 months, I got tired of it and always been wanting to go back to an iPhone but I know I was bored with the IOS as well.

So I went to the Tmobile store a few times testing out the GS3 and HTC one. In my honest opinion, GS3 is way better than HTC one....

Samsung did a great job with the GS3. Is it enough to convince me to buy it for more than $500 dollars? No....

Even though the GS3 has all the features, IMO there's just something with the iPhone that makes me wanting to go back. The simpleness, the retina display, the looks and the way it feels is what convinced me to go back so I ended up buying a used 4S.

I was very satisfied that I went back to the 4S and with my 4S being Jailbroken and added some nice tweaks, it's definitely in competition with the GS3. My sister in law owns a GS3 and comparing side by side, I'm more convince with the retina display of my 4S. So happy with my decision...

Lol don't use an lg phone as what android phones overall are like. Lg is known for having some of the worst builds of android softwarewise in the industry. Very buggy.

By consistent I meant prompt and expected. There really is no such thing as a delay when it comes to iPhone updates. It's the smaller and minor stuff in iOS which make it great. An example would be with the HTC Desire where both Telus and HTC said it wasn't getting ICS, then they said it was, then it wasn't when there are phones with similar specs getting ICS. Heck, the Rezound JUST got ICS and it didn't even have Sense 4.0 even though it has a dual-core proccesor and a GB of RAM. If I want the newer version of Sense, I gotta get a One X. If I want the new TouchWiz, I gotta get a Galaxy S3, even though the S2 can handle it. When Google announces a new update (which they do inconsistently), it could be months before devices get the update (except for Nexuses) and even then companies won't announce the update is coming until a few days before. Manufacturers don't even beta test and they usually can't because they put the newer and better software on the newest device.

You just can't sit here and tell me Google and other Android software manufacturers handle OS updates BETTER than iOS because it's not true. I'm not talking about the features of them (I wasn't in the first place), I'm talking about how they handle them.

That's thing, you gotta hack the phone to run the latest OS update. It may not sound ridiculous to you, but to most average consumers, it does because no one should have to do that. Then you gotta rely on a developer to update your phone and then sometimes you gotta wipe everything and sometimes there's a new update every day or every Friday, etc and it becomes a hassle for people who aren't all that tech savvy. XDA is just a minority. Rooting is just an excuse for not having the latest update. I can just bet there are more people using iOS 6 (which is still in beta) now than Android 4.1.x and 4.0.x combined.

Hmm, well, iOS 6 was shown to the world how long ago? You dont have it yet! They showed everyone the new features and only let the developers have it while you wait. You dont call that a delay?
Sure you will get it, but some wont get 100% of it.

ICS is close to 16% (15.9) now for devices which is double from last month and it is the 2nd biggest OS % of them all on devices right now. Gingerbread leads with 60% so its getting out there and some devices just wont get it. Im not defending it. It isnt ideal but it is making the rounds. You keep mentioning TouchWiz(you must have liked it) but i dont see the big deal. There are many launchers so much better.
I still dont see how iPhone getting a update in a year is better while some arent getting the full Siri or the full Maps.
Android as mentioned get all their major Apps updated no matter what device you have like Maps, Youtube, Gmail, Chrome, Google Music, etc. Some of you wont even get 100% of Siri.

Heres is a graph of Android OS on devices.

Mine wasn't buggy at all. I was running MIUI OS which reminds me allot of the IOS. I just don't think there's any android phones out there that I like other than the built of an iPhone.

iOS 6 was announced and released as a beta on June 11th and today is August 3rd. Sure it's not out as a public release yet, but at least I know the update is progressing and coming soon (due to reading news about betas, etc). The fact that Apple gave a release time frame of "this fall" (which we all know could be this coming month or October at the latest) is all most people care about.

Sure Google told us July for JB which was fine, skin manufacturers barely comment on things and even have to release charts with all their devices just to refute or confirm whether a device will be getting the update. Samsung hasn't said much about JB on the S3 (although you can assume it's getting it) except that their testing whether it'll work or not, and that was just a rumor.

Sure I don't get 100% of it, but that's just how technology is. Why didn't my old Blackberry Tour get updated to BB6? Why aren't some BB6 phones being updated to BB7? (Just an example there) So again, it's not really a delay because were aware that Apple is indeed testing the update with developers and is definitely on track for a fall release.

Some devices are just now coming with 4.0.4 (the One X just got that update) so who knows how long it'll be before devices like the new Atrix gets 4.1 and other new ICS devices.

Regarding Touchwiz, whether I liked it or not doesn't matter (I did though like the new version compared to Touchwiz 4) but the fact that the S2 could without a doubt handle the refreshed TW theme, launcher, and maybe some of the new features.

The fact that Android apps are updated through the Market is just the way things work. The only stock app Apple really seems intent on updating would be Maps and Passbook (when it's launched). Otherwise, the other ones only require software compatibility updates which is handled whenever an OS update is released. With Android, the ones that receive updates aren't really built in per se because I could go an delete Music, Maps, Gmail, Chrome (etc) if I wanted.

Well, you didn't get the new touchwiz the same way I didn't get siri on my iPhone 4 even though the jailbreak community showed it could perfectly handle it.

So who is better? Apple or Samsung? To me neither.

Neither really but in the case of the 4 it's more marketing and a little hardware limitation.

What phone you buy is your choice... you don't need us to convince you.

Well ya did, all the way to the GS3!

Boy oh boy is the GS3 nice! It can do everything the 4s can do and much more, plus it is a whole different world with a screen like that.

I really do hope to see Apple make the iPhone 5 a smash hit, but I doubt they will. IOs 6 is looking like a disappointment and the leaks of the iPhone look like a skinny wiener...

It was funny when the sprint guy asked me " sure you want to do that?" in reply to me being there to swap phones. I wanted to say some dirty but instead just winked.

Look at the leaked pictures as well as ios6. Nuff said. Eff NFC, who wants to buy a coke with their phone? That will be its exclusive feature since its hardware related.

I guess it will all come down to apples marketing, because apple fans likely have had enough koolaid by now.

Seriously you guys are deranged... First of all small screen=better! It's a phone dammit!... If you want to watch movies and stuff buy a tablet... Or whatever the hell that joke the 'galaxy note' is! Also the whole copying thing.. Yeah it's true apple ripped a bunch of ideas off but at least they put some thought into their integration! Those same features in android basically suck! They are slow and buggy or are not integrated enough so that all apps use them... Seriously about half of the features in android are basically in Beta stages of development but are advertised as features!

It will sell great, but many people will look at the screen and say:

"...wtf, I want a wider screen and iOS6 didn't add much. Android here I come."

And when they arrive on Android, they'll be like "wtf is with these apps? Why is my phone on an old OS version?" etc, etc, etc.

It's all your opinion. It really depends on which OS works better for you and for some it's iOS while for others its Android. Plenty of people have come into this forum and say how they've switched to Android then back to iOS and others have done the opposite.

I'd go back to iOS...if Apple added features that should have been there years ago and made a phone with a wider, larger screen. I don't care if I can only download apps from the App Store as long as iOS actually acted more like OSX.

The 4s was boring two days after I got it. I love apples build quality and cs as well as how well the apps work, but their phones are looking antiquatded. They are smooth because they are featureless. They have great battery life for the same reason. My gs3 made it through a whole day of me getting to know it so I am happy with battery. Plus my sprint data speeds are double now.

I hope the new iphone surprises us all. I always viewed it as king, until seeing samsung make android work well on the gs3. Amazing how well something can turn out when you take your time! I rooted it last night to account for samsungs lousy update practices...for the future.

That's your opinion. To me it's just as feature filled as Android. The only thing I see wrong that would make it "antiquated" would be the smaller screen but even if Apple didn't make it larger, I'd be fine with it (I know others wouldn't). The iPhone is smooth because it puts responding to touch as the top priority. It has grey battery life because it manages background tasks properly.

I'm not saying Android is bad because it isn't and we all know that. But when people come here and try to make one OS out to be better than another it's irritating.

Calm down, it's just a phone. The reason why Apple fans get attacked so much is their defending the company which make it weird. Apple don't pay anyone here but actually making you guys poorer, so why defend a company more than your family.

I got a 4s and it works great for me, but I gotta admit, I would like a GS3. I look forward for the new iphone though.

Yeah. The problem is not the iPhone. The problem is iOS lacking certain features that are standard for smartphones nowadays, like... a file system that can be access, or true BT to send files to other phones that are not iOS (and don't tell me the email way, since I may not want to give everyone my email address), etc.

I can't help but feel that basically this thread was a cry for attention and you planned on getting what you did the entire time. "Please convince me" blah blah blah. Basically you had all the information you needed, bought the S3 and then trashed iOS, iPhone 5 and the people that buy iPhone/apple. Something tells me you may have a lot of maturing to do.
