Am I the only one who vaguely remembers something about the original iPad changing the direction of its screen refreshes depending on orientation? For some reason I remember that being one of those "oooooo/awwww/woow" features built in when it first came in? Didnt they specifically brag about this ensuring what we are discussing does not happen "smooth screen performance no matter how you are holding it".

Or maybe I only dreamt that once? I can imagine how complex that could be.

I wish I could say I remember either way on that -- maybe some info could be found online about that if so?

With the reference to AntennaGate: I had a work BlackBerry at the same time and it did the exact same thing. Yes, you can hold your phone in a way that attenuates some of the cellular. With the iPad mini: yes, you can scroll really slow with a particular kind of content and it looks a little weird in a particular orientation. If you don't like it, return it. If you need an iPad that doesnt do that, the iPad pro or iPhone Pro Max should satisfy your needs.

In what reality is an iPad that weighs nearly 200 grams more and is a lot bigger a satisfying alternative to the Mini? Or a phone that's as big as my current phone, but doesn't nearly give the same screen real estate as the Mini?

But maybe you are just joking. 😋

Yes, you might be the only one. Haha. I don’t ever recall hearing that. I thought the refreshing mechanism is anchored on one specific side, which Is what’s causing the issue (on all iPads, not just the mini).

I love this forum. Such drama. It's really entertaining, especially after a launch. You would think the launch was for the Titanic :D

I've been using my 6 and it's definitely better than the 5. I use it in landscape mostly as it being small, it's easer to read. Apparently, some people have issues will portrait. Mine doesn't do anything like that, btw, but maybe Apple should look at that. Any added screen area in landscape makes a big difference, the device being so small.

I obviously can’t speak for everyone’s experience, but I’ve had two Air 4s in my household since launch and I’ve never seen this issue or even heard of it until the Mini 6. If it happens on other iPads it’s certainly less common.

I've just filmed the above with a super-slo-mo camera from a Note 10+ showing the jelly scroll on my Air 4. It's there, but I don't care about it. If you put any Air 4 in landscape and film it in slow-mo then you will see it. It's a limitation with LCD 60Hz.

I strongly suspect that had someone with a following on Twitter instead posted footage of an Air 4 jellyscroll back in Autumn 2020, there would have been countless posts and threads on here about:
- why people are returning their Air 4
- complaints that the Air 4 is garbage
- that Tim Cook sleeps on a bed of piles of money as he laughs himself to sleep while he sells inferior screens etc.

People got worked up and led by the nose on this one.

I mean, if you have to film in slow motion so see it, I don’t think that really counts. 🤷🏾‍♂️

The original Twitter videos showing the “feature”/“issue” were in slow motion, because it’s more clearly visible in slow motion. You can see it in use sometimes ordinarily *if you look for it*. But for me this was a non-issue in the beginning.

It will be interesting to see in the middle of October, as more orders are received, if more people react on the jelly or if it just turns into a nothingburger. I don't have much more to say in this subject as the ball's in Apples court now, whether they see it necessary to do a silent update sometime in the future or if it's just a loud minority(like me) that makes a hen out of a feather. Most likely it's the latter. But it has been great to air some frustrations here and talk about it and see it on major outlets also. If nothing else that's enough.

I must say that this is a very nice forum, as even though people are of different opinions, they are still respectful towards one another.

I've had the mini 6th gen for a few days and I think the screen is great, for the size. I find a diminishing rate of return on smaller screen sizes for a quality viewing experience. The blooming issue on the 12" needs to be fixed and until it is I'm content to stay with the current generation product(s).

There won't be a recall since that means admitting to an issue. More likely they'll silently phase out the substandard panel with a better one then claim just a handful of people were affected.

Jobs might have blamed customers for the way they use products but would have never compromised on the aesthetics of the product itself.

Cook will gladly throw together any random assortment of parts to make a product with high profit margins. He doesn’t care for aesthetics.

For example take the absolute mess that is lightning versus USB. Cook is just going with whichever makes the most money. No consideration beyond that. Jobs would have made a decision that one is better and the demanded all future products used that.
“Tim Cook doesn’t care about aesthetics” is why the iPhone went back to a squared off design as opposed to the rounded design of the iPhone 6-XS that according to Jony Ive felt better in the hand and made the phone feel smaller than it was.

I agree. I had the mini 5 and the mini 6 is a good upgrade.

It’s going to be a nothingburger. The average consumer isn’t going to notice this. It’s not as if the batteries are exploding like the Galaxy Note 7. And even that wasn’t enough to kill the Note line.

I showed it to my wife tonight on my new Mini 6. I didn't tell her anything about the issue, just ran a few tests by her and asked if she saw anything strange or out of sorts. Nothing. "Looks great to me."

People on here talk like we’re some crazy tech geniuses, and the normies are just blind sheep. I think average consumers have eyes lol

I wanted to buy the Mini but will wait out till this issue is resolved. Apple charges top dollars for their products. Are they offering me a discount for this issue? No. So I will wait.

Current Mini 6 display belongs on <$100 class of Amazon Fire and Walmart ONN tablets and not on a $500+ tablet. Tim Cook testing consumers' tolerance so he can double his $750 million compensation package.
