Is anyone seriously expecting Apple will address it at this stage? Did they do anything about bending on the iPhone 6? The fix for the iPhone 4 was free bumper cases, not a hardware change (at least not until the 4S).

Heck, they haven't done anything about the white spot issue on the 10.5" iPads and they really should be doing free replacements for those affected.

Fixing the iPad mini 6 now would cost Apple a lot of money. I expect any fix wouldn't happen until a future product release probably at least 1.5-2 years from now. If someone is bothered by the jelly scrolling, then the logical thing to do is return the product or don't buy it.
If it's just a cheaper display or the orientation of the display connector; is it really that difficult for them to just source the displays from a different supplier? Or would they have a contractual obligation to keep using them for the entire duration of the mini 6's lifespan? How difficult would it be for them to swap the orientation of the display connectors?

Can’t see it. I’ve seen it in some of the slow motion videos but not in this one.
I don't either, and I certainly don't flick a screen around that way. I assume that slower scrolling makes it harder to see, since the refresh vs. scroll ratio would be more favorable.

Once Apple recalls or quietly fixes it in future shipments of this iPad, I wonder what all the people fiercely defending them will do? Would they send in their device for the recall? Or not since apparently it’s not a problem at all and we’re all just whiners?
They won’t recall. The best they might do is quietly fix. But hey they shipped the butterfly keyboard for years so who knows. I can’t see it on my mini 6. It’s probably there but I can’t see it. Mind you I’ve only had my mini for a few hours. I could see it in some of the videos though.

Going back and using my 11" Pro w/ Magic Keyboard... it's such a shame. This thing is HEAVY. The mini 6 was perfect to me in every single way aside from this jelly scrolling. And I personally don't think the screen looks any worse in other regards (color, sharpness, uniformity) though some people have made that observation. I really wish I could just learn to live with the jelly. I will be using it up until the clock runs out on that trial to see, but it really is a shame that an otherwise ideal device has this flaw. I actually use it like a TABLET, I use the 11 pro like a watered down laptop. And since pro apps never ended up coming to it, it certainly can't replace a MacBook. Ideally I'd like to have my M1 iMac as my primary device, a MacBook, and the iPad mini.

That exact question has actually made me wonder if some combo of pandemic supply chain issues and/or cost cutting maybe is what led to this change in orientation -- more so than a deliberate choice by Apple.

Besides, what does waiting to see how things play out or empathy accomplish? Apple's already sunk millions in R&D that they need to recover. The next mini isn't ready yet. Apple never did anything with the Mini-LED blooming or edge shadows. Heck, 10.5" iPad owners with white spot issue have been left in the cold.
That ^^^ is a painfully true point. There is no way anything is going to happen on this "issue" until the Mini 7, if then. And that could easily be five years away.

Job would never allow such "Jelly" product out (knocking), which is against Apple's fundamental philosophy and defected by industry standard.
You mean Mr. "You're holding it wrong" would not allow a jelly product? LMAO.

You give Jobs too much credit.

I had not seen any tear-downs of the 256GB 12.9 iPad Pro so I don't know if it was identical to the earlier released, lower storage capacity models (other than storage capacity).

The cheapest, most efficient option is to keep the old design and just swap the NAND with higher density ones so I doubt anything changed apart from storage.

They were still continuing to manufacture the 32-128GB models even after introducing 256GB so it makes sense that parts were interchangable among the various configs.

As a very neutral :) calendar comment, each of us who have bought one has only two weeks to make a decision. One way to deal with that would be to return the one you bought within the return window, then see how it plays out and buy another one later if you're satisfied. I am not finding this to be a problem for me personally with the specific Mini that I've got, but other people may justifiably feel very differently...and I may return mine and watch this issue anyway, since once you're out of the return window you literally own this problem.

If one ordered online from Apple Store, that's 28 days. 14 days to initiate the return then another 14 to ship. Soon, it will be holiday return period as well so if shipping times aren't too delayed, one can try the product until January. :p

Great point!

Anyone on the fence on the Mini 6 would be well served to just a wait a touch longer and get a much much longer demo period (Holiday return period)

I kind of think someone high up thought it was a good idea. Since there were no top and bottom chins like the Mini's of old, whoever thought that we'd all use it in landscape mode like their bigger brethren. And it just so happens he made 2 mistakes in thinking that, one that we'd use it in landscape, and 2nd, the change to landscape would make portrait scroll a lot worse since the distances were smaller.

Anyway, I can't really see it, I think my brain filters it out, but I agree there were mistakes made -- enough to not use it for some people. Returning it's a given, if I couldn't use something that cost that much, I'd return it too.

The third mistake was not telling marketing -- or the folks at all the stores where they are all mounted on display in Portrait mode - lol

Folks have mentioned maybe a faction in the company is trying to push this for gaming.
That seems plausible -- and is very landscape oriented of course

Am considering this now. When is the holiday return period with Apple? I assume it’s based on order date rather than the date the iPad is shipped by Apple?

I do primarily use my 5 in landscape but I am wondering if that would change if the Mini 6 is easier to hold in hand.

Agreed, and marketing really should have known better just by watch how people use it.

I agree that's plausible too. I play my games in portrait mode, but it's very different games than they are probably thinking about. One's I'd play with my XBox Series x or my PC.

Just having fun with angry emoji Bob - I see you using it -- thought I'd try it
I am hearing that we are supposed to be keeping it jovial and poking fun at each other
:D ;)

I agree with your post above...

I think it might be country specific?
Actually I don't really know -- usually mid November to early January I think?

Please don't hold me to any of that - haha

No problem, it's fair game! I'd really be using disagree for most things, but for some reason that emoji is not showing at all today. Anger always shows. :)

I'm not really in to poking fun at each other unless its self deprecating, I can be very thin skinned on some things, but I don't hold grudges for more than a few seconds, except for maybe one example, not in this forum. (not poking fun at myself here, it's the truth.)

Here's last year's. Looks like it's based on delivery date for online orders.

Items purchased at the Apple Online Store that are received between 10 November and 25 December 2020 may be returned up to 8 January 2021. Please note that all other terms and conditions provided in the Apple Online Store Sales and Refunds Policy are still applicable with respect to such items purchased. All purchases made after 25 December 2020 are subject to the Standard Returns Policy.

I predict in a year if people find out you ridiculed the Jelly, you might lose your job.

Who is 'Cook'?

Captain, Head, Mr, Mrs????

Oh, Mr. Tim Cook. Nowadays Tim or Tim Cook but 'Cook' arrogant, rude, and just plain ignorance.

Call me out by my family name and receive the automatic 'single finger'!

Unless you know him personally then IMO “Cook” is far more respectful than “Tim”

I guess you never watch sports because you always smash your TV when commentators use last names to refer to players

The iPad mini 6 does have one of the worst LCDs I've seen in a top-tier tech company product (even at a low price point) in years.

It looks like a 2006-era LCD screen. Certainly they won't recall it, it's just a cheap, crappy screen.

lol

I agree it's not the best -- but "2006 era"?
C'mon --- :D it isn't THAT bad..

I get what you mean mostly though..
I was hoping the 6 would get a screen that was upgraded from the 5, and it's identical quality wise.

It's "fine" basically -- not amazing, just fine
A point echoed by many reviewers (I think MKBHD said exactly that actually - "fine")
