randomtask - you can set throttling to Low rather than Medium if you're only using one setting. I presume that will slightly decrease the (minimal) CPU usage that Coolbook takes up.

In theory we should be able to turn throttling off completely, but when I try that and then restart, my voltage gets reset to the default. Even with "CoolBook Active" ticked.

I've removed the 800MHz b/2 setting because it's noticeably slower at responding than the 1600MHz setting. The "noticing something is happening and speeding up the processor" clearly doesn't happen quickly enough to be transparent. I'm not sure if this is affecting battery life (I mean specifically removing the 800MHz setting - having Coolbook's lower voltage is definitely giving me more battery time overall). It's still running on the same (lowest) voltage.

still using a dual coolbook conf in my ultimate MBA 11" (800 & 1600) and I agree with you that a little slower response is noticed due to the 800 entry. However, for my day to day work it is acceptable.

And I think that this dual conf increases the battery lifetime even more... I am not 100% sure of this but after weeks using this dual conf (and at the begining only using the 1600) I think I'm getting longer times.

Maybe you can confirm (or not) this comparing your MBA 11" batt lifetime in the next days.

So after reading all the posts on here I broke down and bought the app. Has anyone on here had ANY issues at all? I just wanna keep it simple and under volt to gain battery life.

Also, I wanna thank all of you as in one form or another and after much much much trolling on here I got my new 11" air based on all the great info and reviews y'all have given. Ill try to start to contribute and way I can!

Not here (well, the only "issue" is that I have to re-activate the throttling after some system updates).

Do you need to "restart" the program everytime you restart your computer? Or is it smart enough to stay active on reboot?

I am lost, I just registered and i see only one setting in the left box
800 MHZ @ .8750 and I am unable to add anything else. how do I get rid of that or add my own? I tried adding my own and it asks me to do a test than nothing

Any more with the 1.4ghz on coolbook? If so what voltages can you choose? I can only tamper with the 1.4ghz voltage!? The rest of the frequencies is just have grayed out voltages in the dropdown menu, except for 0.900v...

Runs great on my MBA 13 2.13! Able to run at lowest possible voltage even at 2.13 ghz. Now I can watch Hulu without the fan becoming very audible

Hi magbarn

I've got the 2.13 ghz MBA like you. I would be very grateful if you could post the settings that work for you with your MBA 2.13. A screen cap would be great :)

Thanks in Advance! :D

I'm also the happy owner of a 2.13, and i would like to know if you could share your voltage settings ;)

Thanks in Advance!

Just ordered an ultimate 11" and I am really interested in using coolbook on it. I have a few questions though about the app.

I have heard that if i reinstall OSX i have to buy the app again is this true?

And does any body know of an alternative that runs in Windows 7 as I want to use bootcamp for the odd game of Starcraft 2 and Mass Effect but I would like to minimise the fan noise by lower the CPU voltage

RMClock, ThrottleStop and CPUGenie but I've heard none work via BootCamp.

I'm not able to test yet as I haven't made my MBA purchase.

+3. I would like to know as well! Just really waiting on optimal settings and then buying it. Im not too great with osx or macs to deal with a problem or kernal panic as they call it, if it comes up.

The problem here is that each processor's electrical characteristics are different. ie some people may remain stable with far lower voltages than others. This is why intel set the stable voltages as high as they are. Some processors are able to operate at much lower voltages, but to sell a consistent product, they set the min voltage high and know that all the processors coming off the line can operate with thos specs and manufacturers can design around that.

So one voltage setting might work for some people, a higher for others and even lower for others. YMMV basically, but most likely you can undervolt and be stable to some degree usually, as intel builds a little leeway into the processor rating, as not all hardware will supply the exact voltages all the time.

In all likelyhood, all the processors are made on the same production line, and those that are able to function at the lowest voltages are binned into the 1.6ghz c2d in the mba or 2.13ghz c2d. Those that need more voltage are binned into 1.4ghz and 1.86ghz... and finally the full powered c2d in the mbp.

hmm anyone know why my lowest voltage setting in coolbook is .900V and not .875V like everyone else's seems to be?

I registered and have the 1.6ghz processor

I tried the terminal stuff but it didn't add anymore

I ended up purchasing Coolbook and running it myself with extensive testing.

Basically everything was stable at .0925 except the 2.13ghz speed had to be raised to .093. However, i raised it up because there was some minor lack of snappiness but all of it is still under 1.0V and running very well.

Is your Air the 2010 model ?

the highest my voltage goes is 0.9750 yours goes to a full volt

btw getting loads (about an hour) more battery by having every voltage at 0.8750 and running about 6-7 Celsius lower playing Starcraft II :D

Just got my MBA yesterday. Any reason not to just keep default processor settings and lowering voltage for each?
