Guys, can you help a somewhat clueless female? I have an 11" ultimate, looking to extend battery life. I purchased and registered coolbook.

Now, I have no clue what to do next. In adapter there are 4 settings and then there are buttons for add default and clear. And checks for coolbook active and throttling active.

Can someone explain in some detail how to lower the voltage to extend battery life? I really have no clue what to do next. And if i uncheck the "coolbook" active, and restart, is it as if it was never installed?

I dont need to push limits with the settings, just looking for some additional battery life.

I have read the manual, but I need some genera help.. It seems like I should push the right sided buttons to 1200 and 0.9, and press add, and restart?
I really need a more basic amount of help than the thread here indicates.

I want to thank you experts in advance.

Samantha

EDIT: I just started it, used default, and pressed save, and restarted. Does that mean coolbook is active? How would I know?

open up cool book, on the top right choose a clock speed. Start with the lowest one they have. Then choose a voltage below it. Then click "Set".
That will set the computer to run at those settings. Then, open up CPUtest and put in settings (such as 10 repetition, 2 instances, Huge) and run the test. If you throw a big test at it and it is stable, then that means that the setting you just "set" it at is stable. (BTW, make sure you uncheck "throttling active".

Repeat that for ALL the voltages. If you exit the program, it will not save it. The "Set" feature is merely for setting it to a certain CPU speed/voltage by turning off throttling and used for testing purposes. Once you have all the numbers that you find stable and to your liking, you can then go and permanently add them to your configuration.

On the left window, click the speed you want to change, (ex. 1800mhz), then choose 1800mhz on the right, the voltage you want under it, and click add. The default voltage for 1800mhz should change to whatever you chose. Do this for any other clock speeds. Hit save. Done.

Can someone post a screenshot of their settings, I'm kind of a dummy with these things also. Should battery and adapter settings be the same? I'm running the Air 11" ultimate.

I would like to try out the program out before committing -- too bad there isn't a trial version. 2 extra hours on my air would be great.

2 extra hours?! not possible. Real usage I will say 30-45 min and that's not bad.

Yeah, it'll be great if you guys can post your stats -- someone on the first page said he gets around 7 hours, which is pretty good.

Did you underclock all your frequencies to 0.8750V?

yes. now i'm using only a "0.875 vs 1.6 Mhz" conf on my MBA 11" ultimate.

Not sure if adding a "0.875 vs 800 Mhz" will improve the times... some people say yes... others say no.

The problem here is that each processor's electrical characteristics are different. ie some people may remain stable with far lower voltages than others.

I understand the electric phenomenon behind every frequency/voltage pair. The thing is that if anyone had already minimum values, we could try a bottom-up testing strategy, which would be easier and would be less time consuming.

In the past, I have contributed several times with that data for other C2D processors after stress testing my CPU after 1-2 days running, including speed stepping has sometimes a CPU can fail while changing frequency states, if the vid is too low.

Basically everything was stable at .0925 except the 2.13ghz speed had to be raised to .093. However, i raised it up because there was some minor lack of snappiness but all of it is still under 1.0V and running very well.

Thank you ;)

Once my key arrives, I'll be testing those values.

Set my MBA 2.13 coolbook to run with only one frequency 2128mhz@.925v and everything is running cooler :D.

Been testing since yesterday, have ran several CPU test instances, been running cputest with All Tests, 10 Repetitions and 4 instances for 2h30m already, and working at the same time and it is stable as a rock.

Just don't know if I should enable other frequencies or not?

If it runs 700mhz at the same voltage as 2.13ghz, should I enable it or not? Any advantages/disadvantages?

i emailed coolbook support so we'll see if i hear anything back..

Did you hear anything back? I also only have from 0.900V and I have the 11 ultimate as well. Says MacbookAir3,1 in the about mac window.

I emailed them as well but it's only been a day so far. Hoping to hear back soon.

I am not interested in extending my battery life but came across this thread when researching fan noise. My 1.6 4gb MBA is very noisy and so I have downloaded coolbooks in the hope that it will reduce the fan volume.

Could anyone give me a dummies guide on how to set up coolbooks from scratch with the best settings for my problem, please?

How do you know if you've actually purchased the license? I went through the whole paypal process but have had no paypal confirmation email, and cannot find anywhere on coolbook to activate it???

You should get an email from the developer after you've paid for it and it'll have the registration info. Registration form is in the preferences section of coolbook.

i too wish someone would post the optimal settings for a 2010 macbook air 11'. i'd really like to know what the settings would be before i should buy the program and what kind of extra battery life you all got out of it.

sorry, i'm just a little confused :(

The optimal settings depends on the processor either: 1.4 or 1.6Ghz.

For the mba 13 I didn't notice such a big boost in battery life (i lowered the voltage from 1,05 to 0,925volt so it was a 13,5% decrement). If my battery lasted for 6 hours, now it would last for more 48min approximately.

I really didn't notice that much, because if you end up with more battery, most probably you'll turn your screen brighter, which by itself will level out the gain of undervolting.

On the other hand, I really felt a big difference on cpu temperature. Now my fan doesn't spin as loud as before which means the cpu it running cooler. This for me was the real argument for buying coolbook controller.
