I would like to know what they will do for people on iUP so they don't pay useless payments this year, and then next year will need to pay extra payments in bulk to be able to upgrade at the normal September time again.

Unfortunately that is going to be the price of being up-to-date and first to get the devices.

It’s not just for their new phones though, lt’s for all existing phones too.
I think we all know that the OS updates are available for existing phones. Apple is pretty good about keeping older phones working. The new OS is made to enable certain features on the new phones.

Their preview website says "Coming this fall". So if history is any judge, for Apple that literally means any time between September 22 and December 21.

I can see it being released the first week of October. Yes we’re on beta 6, but the sixth beta of iOS 13 was released on August 8. The seventh beta was released on August 15. So we’re about 15 days behind a normal schedule.

Because iPadOS still deletes my synced playlists, I am more on an October release schedule. My feedback still says “resolution open” and “more than 10 similar reports”.

Considering we'll have iOS 13.7 soon, I highly doubt iOS 14 Will release this month.
13.7 sounds more like a backport of the enhanced exposure notitications system to get 1-3 weeks of head start due to the rising Covid-19 cases everywhere. Better to get that out as fast as possible instead of waiting it out until 14, every day counts in that regard.

This is a hard one to call, as far as I can see it Apple could do one of 2 things:

A) Delay iOS14 so it releases around the same sorta time the new iPhones release. This could be likely as usually the GM contains code for a feature that is only on the new iPhones and they aren’t going to want to give up whatever new selling feature the next iPhone has before the initial announcement.

B) Strip out any new iPhone 12 only features from whatever internal build of iOS 14 they have ready and release that as iOS14 and then add the new iPhone 12 features back to iOS 14.1 and release that with the iPhone 12. The only issue I see with that is potentially you’ll have a load of iPhone 12’s already produced with a non final build of iOS 14 installed already which may cause headaches for those who have the later release build of iOS 14 on their older devices when it comes to transferring data across.

Personally after the hot mess that was iOS13 you’d hope they would take the extra month to really polish iOS14 but we shall see.

It’s not just for their new phones though, lt’s for all existing phones too.
Other than the fact that the release version will have code identifying new features in the new phones. If the phones haven't been revealed, they're not releasing iOS 14 (or they'll assign all the new features to iOS 14.1)

Unlike previous years though beta 6 does not feel anywhere near ready yet. I am personally not enjoying it all, it may be a case of carerful what you wish for as we have ben asking for a more interesting home screen experience but right now widgets just feel half baked and buggy to me. That huge gap for example between the dock and bottom row is just so un-apple. I can imagine that would have kept SJ or JI awake at night.
Overall, the beta cycle has been pretty good. I do agree with you that the widgets functioning has been erratic at best. It wouldn’t bother me at all if Apple waited until the end of October to release iOS 14. The people in a rush is the small contingent on MacRumors.

The more i think about it the more convinced I am this will come in October. Just seems like there isn’t really any reason to release a month before the phones when they can just wait and fix more bugs.

I got an email from Apple 2 days ago:

“Try out the new public betas”

Trying to convince users to help shape Apple software by test-driving pre-release versions.

If you think about it, it would be ridiculous to invite users for a beta and just release 13.7 if iOS 14 is going to be released shortly.

So personally I don’t think iOS 14 is going to be available in the next two weeks or so. It might still be September, but it will be the 29th or something.

You are just late to the party, I got that Apple email about a month ago. 😉 Perhaps they send these emails separately for different countries/regions?

I think there are several things to consider.
If Proser is right and the coming week is indeed going to come with some new product announcements - iPad Air 4, the Watch and what not - then these new products will need fresh OSs too. Going by Apple’s history, they could release a GM in the week starting 7 Sep and then the final version of iOS 14.0 in the week of 14 Sep? Then when the new iPhones arrive, they could release iOS 14.1 to support them?

Then again, Apple could still take their time to refine the iOS 14, so I guess it all depends on whether or not they launch any new hardware in the near future.

The last beta build before GM on an x.0 release has been a minimum of 2 weeks (well I think 12 days is the actual minimum, but point remains). GM to release has not been less than a week.

so, if a beta doesn’t come this week, then B7 could be the last build before GM and GM could come the week of the 14th, at the earliest.

GM depends on when Apple intends to release 14.0, though. That release date impacts how long we have the last Beta build for.

I guess Apple is late to their own party 😄 But them still sending out these emails this late only makes sense if iOS 14 isn’t being released in the coming two or three weeks.

I thought all he said about this week was that the Apple website will have something going on on Tuesday between 9am & midday EST? I don’t do Twitter, but theonly tweets from him about this week put up on these forums only said that and 👀📦 emojis. Nothing about what’s actually coming.

L0vetodream, who has a good track record has said no Watch6 this month. So, sounds like it’s October with the phones.

As mentioned elsewhere, can't be late to a party that has no date. If other companies have not been affected by covid supply/production restraints then it's specifically Apple. But then it's only early September, and as there will unlikely be an 'event', then they can seriously just wait until the tue before the Friday before announcing Phones, and then releasing iOS14. I imagine the drive right now, is to make sure the iOS is spot on.

He said that as a joke to see which Twitter accounts would copy his info.

Unfortunately, MacRumors editors couldn't tell the difference between a joke and real info.

Is that sort of like the type of thing that happens along the lines of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"?

There's been a couple tweets about October from them, I didn't see any tweets after the last one saying about it being a joke.
