Keep us updated. I've put so much thumb pressure on the iPad before and it didn't do a thing. Hopefully someone at apple is understanding

Clearly a defective glass panel. Most certainly they're going to replace it for free.

Remember a post where this happened to someone with an iPad 2. In his post people didn't believe him but from what I remember they did replace it for him.

This was happening to a lot of people that had the toshiba thrive. People were having their glass break from just picking it up. I believe the consensus was that the glass was unusually thin.

Lol..don't feed this troll.

Right so we have reached the point on this forum that unless you bow to Apple regardless of what you experience you are classed as a troll. I have declined to put up with the build quality of the iPad 3 (my personal experience) but I have given Apple even more of my cash by buying a £1000 Macbook Air instead. Does that make me a troll too?

Or perhaps just a normal Apple customer.

It is very possible the glass had a flaw and was installed in the frame putting additional stress on it and all it took was a little push to bring it to a breaking point.

BUT, when I and others look at it, it DOES look like impact damage. Looks like a hard object, like a coffee cup, etc fell on the screen. I would think a regular stress crack would cause a single break from one side of the screen to the other but this has all the signs of an impact cause spider breaks from the center.

You will be at the mercy of the Geek. I would be humble and not indignant!

It could be a quick fluctuation in temperature causing the glass to expand. I've never seen this but hopefully they will understand your predicament.

Do let us know what's happened and if you managed to get it replaced.

a few months back, my girlfriend and I were watching TV at home and all of a sudden, my favorite glass filled with coke just burst and cracked into small pieces!
We both jumped up! Thought there was a ghost or something but it was one of those unexplained things (well maybe a scientist could tell me what happened).. I took a picture of the smashed glass and it's on the computer somewhere.

So I believe that it's possible for the glass to just crack..

..... All I know is that if I dropped my iPad and the glass shattered, I'd be jumping straight on MacRumors to make a thread saying it "broke in my hand" just so I could refer the Apple person to it as further corroboration of my story. .......

A few months ago I was reading reviews of the Kindle Fire on Amazon. A young lady rated it one star and said it was a piece of junk. She said she was using it and the screen broke. She said she would be very angry if Amazon gave her a hard time when she returns it.

When you click on "See my other reviews" she had a Kindle Fire case rated one star as well and went on to explain how it didn't protect her KF when her friend took it from her and threw it down on a cement walkway.

it's because you're using a case that was released as "for new ipad" but was really a guess or just lucky fit. that type of case puts quite a bit of stress on small areas of the corners of the glass, causing a fracture. what brand of case is is, because that is your culprit... greedy case makers rushing to market before product is ready, NOT APPLE

Not sure how correct you are about this, you can actually hear a big SLAP when I slam my smartcover shut on my iPad 2 sometimes and there's no damage whatsoever.

These screens are supposed to be resistant to pressure damage. My girlfriends cat walks and sits on hers and again, no damage.

Lmao. "I even made a thread about it online - it HAS to be true!"

Haha, that's funny!

This incident is why I refused to force-fit an iPad 2 back cover onto my new iPad3. It literally caused the glass to visibly flex. I had a rear sliding window on a pickup truck shatter once on me from too much pressure and don't want to see a repeat with my iPad.

he's not talking about the smart cover, in the image you can see there is a snap on case around the edge of the iPad, if this case is not the exact correct size, it could be pulling on the corners, causing stress on the glass.
