“iOS 11. A giant step for iPhone. A monumental leap for iPad“

This is the quote from Apple that sold me iOS11. So far, on both counts, are straight up lies imo.

If Neutral is topping polls then surely others are in agreement that there is nothing “Giant” or “Monumental” about iOS11?

For many, it’s disappointing. For many it’s Meh but it certainly doesn’t seem to Be Wowing anyone if online opinion is anything to go on.

Marketing taglines are what sells people on something?

You are right. It shouldn’t be a selling incentive but it for many (the gullible) it is! I bit and now regret it, however, I still feel cheated, I can’t shake that. The “taglines” promise messed up both my iPhone & iPad and also my watch is taking quite the hit from watchOS 4.1. There’s clearly something going on at Apple that has me on a cycle of disappointment that would not be an issue had I stayed put on iOS10>

Incidentally, are you genuinely curious or just hurt/offended by my disappointment with Apple?

More along the lines of somewhat surprised than anything else.

Buggy on launch with my iPhone 7 plus. But now on my iPhone X I am finding it very nice. Especially interacting with all the gestures. They are perfectly refined. Coming from android to Apple for the first time ever a bit over a year ago I can't imagine anybody else implementing a new feature so perfectly to be honest. Reaching control centre is a bit annoying now so hopefully they change that down the track, but otherwise I'm quite happy. That said, I think that a better job needs to be done to ensure the software is not buggy on release on older devices. It's not good for the image of Apple as a company. They charge a premium for their ecosystem so people expect a bit more.

Are you finding it very nice bc hardware and gestures,s to make up for bugs,

Or lack of bugs and issues and noticeable speed improvement compared to 7+?

Curious cus i have a 7+ too but its on ios 10.1 jailbroken so (its staying on it)

I definitely found it to be less buggy/stuttery than the 7+, but even on the 7+ it really wasn't so bad anymore. Far better than at launch. I wanted sone of the features such as the files app with iOS 11 so I updated. If you have no reason to update maybe wait if you want til 11.1 it to be pretty stable.

Gestures as a separate thing work perfectly in my use, possibly part of what makes them feel so perfect is the 120hz touch response. I just find it a bit crazy this fundamentally new feature works like butter without fail. But on launch iOS 11 struggled to unlock the phone without stuttering on my 7+.

It will obviously run well on the X as that’s the only phone ios 11 is fully optimised for.

The reality with iOS 11 is the exact opposite of what was being marketed. Pretty sure marketing doesn't work like that.

I think I gave @cdm the benefit of doubt here but In hindsight I’m left scratching my head at the comment. Isn’t a marketing tagline indeed intended to sell someone on something. Is it not the purpose of marketing? Colour me confused

Not really. I’m very happy with iOS 11 on my 5s, 6s, 6s+ And 7. Runs very well, especially noticeable on 5s which is now a speed demon.

Yes but it seems like false advertising to people like me. Most noticeably the iPhone 6 I have runs like a budget Chinese Android Phone.
I guess it depends on your perspective. To me ios 11 is a nice, welcome change from ios 10 as my four year old 5s is running better than it was on the "pinnacle of perfection" ios 10.3.3. But I got your point. With 90 millions iphone users (you can web search that number) world-wide not everybody will agree 100% on any marketing claims and there will be different and unique experiences across the board.

No marketing is supposed to be opposite of what it's supposed to do for anyone. That's not how it works. Advertise the features of iOS 11 but don't market it with a blanket statement saying it's a giant improvement for iPhone.

Not everyone agrees with every marketing statement. Overall iOS 11, IMO, is better than iOS 10. Each has a different perspective and will “believe” what they want.

Even early versions of Android had less bugs than this piece of crap that Apple dares to call iOS. They need, not need - MUST, fire the guy who's in charge of iOS development. Whoever that guy is, he's a complete idiot that i wouldn't even trust sending him to a supermarket to buy a loaf of bread.

Android Oreo is more optimised and smoother than iOS 11 at this point. This Video was just published yesterday. Look at the Pixel 2 demolishing the A11 Bionic in bootup test and opening apps all of us use everyday

The video is a showcase of how badly optimised iOS 11 is on Apple’s “disconnected older products”.

Google has surprised me with Oreo. Android is rapidly leaving iOS in the dust with optimisation as Google seems to have a laser focus on performance compared to Apple with faster animations and an overall snappy feel.

You mean firing Craig Federighi in favour of someone more competent?

I would support that.

First the Calculator bug (of which a fix hasn't even been officially released yet), and just this week the Root issue on macOS High Sierra. In more ways than one, quality control of software affecting millions of products worldwide has really taken a nosedive in the recent years.

Critical bugs like this shouldn't be happening for a company that prides itself on industrial leading software, period. I think Craig is a great person, but it has become clear that someone with obsessive attention to detail and problems should be leading Apple's software development instead of him.

Scott Forstall is the guy we need.

ios 11 feels heavy and by heavy I mean lags everywhere across the UI you turn on low power mode then the lags become even more consistent and infuriating . apple has made what is supposed to be a lightweight ios extinct which was ios 10.3.3

you're so accurate even android 7.0 has been running way smooth in terms of performance on older android devices as compared to ios on older devices which has seen a lot of stuttering

That's not really how marketing works. Just watching some commercials, even from decades ago, demonstrates that pretty much all the time.

Trash video. My conclusion is the opposite of yours. Faster animations do not make a better device or o/s.

That's only a part of it. Even the load times were faster. The device was very snappy. If I didn't know anything about whats inside both of those phones, I would have thought the Pixel was the faster phone which is called nailing the experience and not benchmarks

Faster animations= Snappy experience. Which is why iOS 11 animations are faster than 10

SO when I watch a commercial, reality can turn out to be the exact opposite of whats flat out stated?
