* Having finished his current watch duties, Count Lochaber sits at the fire and start cooking a thick slab of horse steak.
when it is ready, he proceeds to avidly devouring it, making sure he doesn't get any of the juices running all over his vest.
Then, looking at the Elf who has been fully absorbed in her papers for what seemed to be an eternity

> Say Mistress Syllin, that must have been a most difficult spell you have been working on there.
I can't wait to see it how it shall wreck havoc on our new "friend'' 's old buddies in the morrow!
* turns to the goblin who is still tied up, then partially unties him so he gets some degree of movements without being able to run. then goes back to his seat and tosses him some of the leftovers from his meal

> there you go, goblin.
do you have a name?
why don't you tell us about these traps you were talking about?
and lest you get some wrong ideas in that little head of yours, if you try to run or betray our presence, i shall not spare your life again.

@ravenvii: how do you plan to run this, resource-wise? do we have to explicitly care about the 'menial' details (eating, drinking, refilling water, recovering arrows, cleaning/sharpening weapons, etc.) or are some/most of these tasks implicit other than for color purposes?

>>> Implicit.

The goblin grumbled a response and you couldn't decide whether it was a thanks or an insult.

You guys aren't waiting for me, right? As I said before: please exchange Bane with Guiding Bolt and the rest stays the same.

>>> I was. Well, no longer, since we're now all set...

The moon bathes the woods with an eerie glow. You gather your things and get ready to leave. The goblin glared at you expectantly.

>>> Do you free it from its bonds so it can lead you to the hideout?

nah, i think we are waiting for ravenvii.
but since we are at it, we are basically rested and ready for war, but it is about midnight. do we extend the rest to the morning or do we go at night? if we wait, i assume ravenvii can fast-forward to the morning directly

I suggest the morning. The humans and Portia are blind in the dark and a light source makes it difficult to sneak up on someone :).

Edit: I see we have a moon so ignore my previous comments.

How is sleeping handled anyway? Do we have to take shifts? :D

I hope you are wearing a shift or some type of clothing at night. One moon is enough :D.

While I have rather good night vision, I wonder about the wisdom of heading off at night; a light source can be used to blind as well as guide, but I will defer to the opinions of my experienced companions here.

I recommend that we bind his arms behind him, and have someone attend to him closely. It is possible that he may try to attract the attention of his fellows, so perhaps precautions might be in order.

i assume in the elapsed time we have buried Belaver, removed the dead horses to the brush and taken care of the other horses?
also, we saved some of the butchered meat for later consumption (it should hold for a few days)

is the moonlight enough to see by? would we need lantern/torches?
I am good both waiting till morning or going right away.

meanwhile, i look at the goblin and try to understand if he can be trusted (insight check)

Well, I imagine that our warriors know how to ensure that a captive does not turn into an ally of would be captors, so I will happily leave it to them to secure and guard him.

As to the wagon, I hardly imagine that a cross country trek seeking out a goblin hideout will allow us to take the wagon with us - the terrain will hardly allow for it - so what does this mean for our primary quest, which was to deliver the goods contained in the wagon. Is it possible to secure it, so that we can retrieve it upon our return?

Even though Master Veit's cousin - who contracted us - has been captured by the unpleasant companions of our captive, I assume that we do not intend to abandon that which we have been contracted to deliver.

as we leave (now or in a few hours) we can hide the wagon and the horses in the brush.
they should be fine for a shortish time

I think DP answered it in post #257 of this thread.

yes, one thing that i think didn't clarify properly there, is that bonus action spells cannot be used in conjunction with regular non-cantrip spells, or with any other bonus actions.

so for example a Cleric COULD:
move, attack with a mace (action) and use Healing Word (bonus action spell)
Use Sanctuary (bonus action spell), attack with Sacred Flame (cantrip), move.

but COULD NOT:
use Cure Wounds (normal action spell), move and use Healing Word (bonus action spell)

>>> Yes, the moonlight is enough to see by, though anyone hiding in the woods will have a better chance of being, well, hidden (provided the dice rolls ever in their favor, of course).

*** CHECK ***
A goblin is difficult to read for a human such as yourself who have limited interactions with the goblin kind. So I'll call it a DC of 15. You have a +1 insight bonus and a +1 wisdom modifier, so you'll need a 13 or higher to tell:

Bartolomeus: 3 + 1 + 1 = 5 - fail

You fail to determine if the goblin is truthful or not.
*** CHECK ***

@ravenvii I realize you've probably seem my previous requests, but I'd appreciate if it you give me a day or two warning before my debut if that is possible. It might also be good to give me some advance idea what kind of circumstances will be surrounding my appearance. That way I might be able to make a smooth entrance without taking some time to think about it after it's sprung on me, lol. :) Thanks.

I think DP answered it in post #257 of this thread.

That does not address what I asked, and he answered it better in the Support Thread. :)

*to Veit, who is holding the goblin, with hands tied behind his back, on a short leash

> Blast me if I can make out what goes through the mind of such wretched creatures.
I do not trust him fully, so we should be extra careful, and be ready to be assaulted at every bend.
keep him in front. One never knows.
I'll close the rear, and have my weapons at the ready.

Ought we consider placing a gag of some description over the mouth of our goblin captive? While I can speak - and understand - his tongue, others here do not. Above all, I fear that he may alert his comrades in the dark by calling out to them while we advance towards the hideout.

wouldn't we need to hear what he says? he mentioned traps
and he knows we have weapons ready.
a wrong move and he is a dead goblin.

Btw. before I forget: I'll do a wisdom check if our noble lord is indeed noble and not just a (horse) butcher from around the corner - as it somewhat appears to be the case.

> Alright, Mylord. By my beard, if that goblin tries to run away with my rope he's toast!

ravenvii, I'll have the leash in one hand and my hammer in the other. He can walk, but his hands are rigidly tied, there is no way he could grab one of my axes or knives I have in my belt.

*nudges the goblin with mighty warhammer*

> Go ahead. Let's visit your friends and throw them a little surprise party.

I might not have brought a rope, but i wouldn't be seen anywhere without a Signet Ring and a Scroll of Pedigree.
I have got my priorities straight

Musing to myself: Is this the time for our party of battered - slightly bruised - but mostly somewhat recovered adventurers to begin harbouring grave internal doubts about one another? Doesn't really augur all that well for our unity of purpose or possible success in either expected combat or unwelcome battle…...
