"how's your mac running under catalina?"

"it's amazing; fast, stable, secure. my apps are working beautifully, and the OS is better than ever"

"so you're happy?"

"no, dashboard is gone, and i can't figure out the weather, or how to calculate numbers... so am either switching to windows, or reverting to an older mac OS..."

:D

Honestly while it does suck it's gone (someone said it may come back in a later DP, unlikely) I've found the Notification Center widget for weather and calculator are solid. I do prefer the Aqua UI though...

Maybe someone can try and port Mojave's dashboard into Catalina?

So with Dashboard likely going away, how can I implement features that I typically used into the sidebar? Calculator and notepad are the biggest ones, but I also had weather for a few different cities and an activity monitor.

Apple hid the Dashboard like two/three (?) macOS version ago when they introduced the notification center, there are plenty great widgets for that. Just search online, plenty free options too for the things you mentioned.

The OS is still in beta and people are making software to bring back a feature that was removed (one that took basically no resources).

Maybe apple will take note

We may or may not get dashboard back I just like using some of my widgets so I wanted to find away to at least to get them to work then maybe that could get us closer to figuring out how to bring back dashboard in working order :)

Why such haters for dashboard?

Some like it (I included) and is useful and quick to check. Other don't like it, everyone has their preferences.

Maybe it might show up in later versions of the Catalina beta like DVD player in Mojave, but in Mojave, apple gave and icon to be used in the touch-bar for dashboard to my surprise. (I replace the siri touch icon with the dashboard icon).

Still early to tell. We have to wait and see...

The thing that really gets me here, is that it's not like Dashboard is some huge feature/service that requires huge resources or active development. It's a tiny little blip of a feature that requires a tiny bit of server space, but is hugely useful. I don't get what the point in removing it is except to piss us off.

Apple confirmed that the feature is gone a few weeks ago. Sadly that era is over. I'm still using Snow Leopard and Sierra, so I will continue to use most of my Dashboard widgets. It seems the weather widget is broken now, though.

Disappointed also. Curious what the people who didn't use Dashboard did when they needed to use a calculator or do a quick conversion?

The greatest thing about Dashboard compared to all other alternatives is that you don't have to scroll to see all of it, you know, like a dashboard. This leads two benefits that don't seem to be mentioned
- ability to check other important information while you're looking at something else. e.g. I'm checking the time at a different place and since the stock widget is nearby and am reminded to check it
- widgets are fixed in location so I already know where to look to find a piece of information

And it can be set as a transparent overlay, so if I have to quickly reference numbers in say, a safari window, I can use the dashboard calculator and still see what’s underneath. I do that all the time.

you can place the calculator app over a safari window, or open a calculator in the notification center, over a safari window... or do a calculation in spotlight... over a safari window...

It goes for a lot of other apps too; Dictionary/Thesaurus comes to mind, also stocks and weather.
I'm sure there are workarounds, but I'm also sure Dashboard is incredibly ****ing good and not "outdated" at all.

Foreign residents like my self ( Aussie ) in Japan value the Unit Converter for getting exchange rates, temperature conversion - America still doesn't like metric etc. Weather is gone. Flights Tracker too !

I still use Dashboard many times every day, quick, useful.

I have QuickTime 7 registered and despite it's lack of codecs is useful for exporting to many formats, selecting a portion of a video and looping only that portion to loop.

Apple could have done a survey of Dashboard & Quicktime 7 users and politely asked us our opinions - they're becoming more & more like Microsoft, Windows every year.

Apple throws a new MacOS at us yearly but in their haste said upgrades upgrades unfinished eg : El Capitan USB probs, Sierra no reliable working Bluetooth device re-naming etc.

Snow Leopard 10.6.8 was the last time Apple really finessed an Apple OS version. Eight revisions !

Now, no EFI boot selection. If MVC can do it with the RX 580s . . so can Apple.

How many in this thread complained to Apple re: no EFI boot selection for the new GPUs ? I did.

Tim is not on the same page as most Apple users.
