I just downloaded it too. I didn't see Mobile Finder until after the fact. MF seems to be pretty robust, and the UI seems a little better to me. Might have been a better choice....Time will tell.

Ditto. And it does have iWork, which is a plus. I might grab it, too, since it's only 2 bucks, and see which is better.

Edit: Reading the MF site, it looks like you have to upload files with an ftp client, whereas DataCase does it through the finder. Score 1 for DataCase on that one.

I just bought it too. I was planning on paying more than $6.99 for Data Case anyway. Well got to go fire up the grill....will check back later.

Dimwhit or Bear....Call me the dimwhit, but all the instructions are for the mac...yeah i know...go buy a mac, lol....anyway, I type the IP into my web browser and it connects but nothing will transfer. What am I doing wrong? I see the two folders in the web browser, drop a pdf file into it and it opens but it does not transfer.

Thanks in advance

Well, the wife is cooking on the grill...so I played around with it. For Macs, it looks like you have to use Cyberduck (FTP), or use File Zilla (Firefox) to xfer data. For PC's...I *think* you just have to use File Zilla (Firefox).

If my initial impressions are correct....Data Case is much better because it automatically mounts and you drag and drop. I don't like the idea of having to use FTP or install another browser with plugin....Forget it. I tried using "Transmit" (FTP for Mac) and it didn't work (it might, I just didn't play around with it for long).

Switching gears to Data Case:

I'm sure the developers of Data Case will clean up the home screen with a better layout.

I was referring to Data Case. I typed the IP in my Firefox browser and it connects to my iPhone and the little window pops up and I click allow. I can see the two folders in the browser but when I drag a PDF file to the browser, it just opens the document...it does not transfer it. I know I am missing something or just totally stupid.

I just ate...so am done with the food thing...and oh by the way...AF crashed my iPhone this morning and I had to do a complete Restore. Then it would not connect to iTunes...after 2 hours of fighting, I finally got it to restore, sent a nasty gram to the AF devs and left it off my iPhone, I really miss it.

Read Bear Hunter's post. You don't use a web browser/ftp client with DataCase. It should mount like any network drive would mount. However, I don't know Windows well enough to know how to make that happen if it isn't automatically.

...and there in lies my dilema...it didn't mount and I have no clue, never used something like this. I kind of figured the web browser was the wrong approach. Now I have to wait for a knowledgeable windows user.

Thanks anyway!

I believe FileMagnet only works on a Mac, not PC

Also it looks like Filemagnet uses the same concept as Mobile Finder except they capture the "upload" software into a free program they call "Filemagnet uploader" instead of using FTP or Browser plugin.

Pretty icon though

this app is better than filemaget and files. because it has Bonjour. You dont need to type the ip adress from the iphone anymore. After you open the app, your finder show you instantly the iphone.Amazing

sorry for my bad englishs, im from germany :)

Yeah, sorry I'm not much help on that end. You could also try emailing DataCase support. They don't have much by way of documentation, so that's probably the best bet.

this seems like it'd be a great app, but mobilefinder came out, and it looks alike it

i do "have a clue" how this app would work. If it is downloading and moving files,t hen it HAS to have access to the OS's file management system,

It actually doesn't. Programmers only have access to their own folder directories. As such, you can't place or retrieve files or folders from anywhere other than from inside the program itself.

See if the drive is in MY Network Places, just a guess.

I'm excited about both apps, just waiting what everyone thinks about both, maybe we can do a poll.

Hey SFC,

Yeah, I'm not too windows savy, but I would guess it would have to do with a network setting on your end to allow auto connection...but I could be wrong.

I'm lovin Data Case...Loaded a few ppt and pdf files and everything is working great.

Only thing I would like to see added is the ability to log in as a registered user through finder (password protect) instead of guest. Then again maybe that functionality is already there and I haven't figured it out yet.

Anyway great App...highly recommended and much better than Mobile Finder if you don't like secondary apps to load files.

man, im so ready to buy this. finally something useful. but just one question. if i read right i can view excel and word docs correct? can i edit them too? please test this if you bought it.

thanks

Yep you can view MS docs. Remember is a "viewer" not an editor, I don't see any edit function. I would imagine it is just like viewing docs through "preview" on your computer.
