is there a way to use this with a PC that is on a wired network? can i just FTP into the phone ?

See if the drive is in MY Network Places, just a guess.

I'm excited about both apps, just waiting what everyone thinks about both, maybe we can do a poll.

I looked...nothing. I sent an email to the Dev requesting that he give some instructions to windows users. I am glad you all are enjoying it...I soon hope to be and if he sends anything, I will post for windows users.

man, im so ready to buy this. finally something useful. but just one question. if i read right i can view excel and word docs correct? can i edit them too? please test this if you bought it.

thanks

View, yes. Edit, no. I don't think any of these programs allow for editing. That would require a full word processor app.

i can't play my uploaded mp3 files,who else have this problem?

Works fine for me. Though it won't display album art. Not sure it needs to...that's what the iPod section is for.

This is my problem

The problem with this type of app at the moment is that they require both the host PC and your iPhone to be part of the same wireless network, to me that is pretty much useless as a lot of the PC's I work with don't even have WiFi cards. Until someone comes out with functionality similar to turning the iPhone into a USB Mass Storage Device (if that is even possible) then all of these apps are a bit pointless to me.

Agreed ... My work computer is not wifi enabled this no good this app would do on my work computer - also no wifi card. I emailed the MobileFile developer and he states that Apple does not allow touching the USB port and data transfer on the edge/3g is also not allowed ... So using the iPhone as an external/portable sans wifi is basically not possible at the moment.

MobileFinder

Does anyone know if MobileFinder allows you to import text files from your desktop and then edit them, or if you can only edit text files you started in the program?

This is the list of features on their site, and it wasn't clear:

MobileFinder features:

* Intuitive file browser
* File transfers to and from a Mac or PC
* Compatible with Mac OS X™ 10.4 & 10.5
* Compatible with Windows XP™ & Vista™
* Compatible with all flavors of Linux™
* Standard file operations
* Text file creation and editing
* Image file viewing
* Sound file playback
* Movie file playback
* PDF viewer
* Web viewer
* Zip archive compression
* MS Office™ and iWork™ documents

I'm looking for any kind of text editing that will let the file go back and forth between my phone and home computer, and didn't know if this was finally it or not.

Thanks!

DataCase for WINDOWS users

I sent an email to the developer this afternoon for instruction on how to use for windows users. Within 3 hours he had a reply so I would say that customer service via email is pretty good along with great instruction. I am now up and running along with all you BIG MAC's :D

Email:
Thank you very much...it worked and I am satisfied, up and running. I will post this in the MacRumors forums for the other windows users. I post as SFC Archer if you want to read the threads.

At present in windows you will need to use FTP for uploading. The easiest way to do this is to go to windows explorer (not to be confused with Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer is the file browser built into windows, so double clicking on "My Computer" should bring it up), then where you see the file path type in the url that you see on the DataCase interface that starts with "ftp://"...this should connect to your volumes on the phone. If that gives you problems or you have further issues let me know.

I have been waiting for this for ever...just purchased and installed on Classic iPhone. I run windows and your video is for a Mac. How do I get this to work in Windows? I type the IP in my web browser and drag PDF files to the folder and all it does is open the document, it does not transfer. Help us lowly windows users please!

Thank You

Hope this gets the rest of you up and running!

datacase v filemagnet

For datacase can you view all sizes of PDF's and Word documents with out memory issues unlike filemagnet? Also, for people who have both, which one do you prefer and what are the differences?

I had been looking forward to this one. Soooo worth the wait.

Works perfectly. As soon as I launched the app, my DataCase volumes were instantly accessible from all the computers on my network.

i sent an email to the datacase support my problem. after few hours they write this back:

This is probably a bug that we have that is triggered by spaces in file names. We had that fixed but I think we mistakenly got it back in in a later beta. A fix is going out tonight for that and you'll have it as soon as Apple finished processing the update (all updates are free of course). In the mean time if you rename the file to not include spaces that should fix it. I do apologize for the trouble. If this doesn't sound like its what's causing it, let me know and we'll track down the issue.

nice to hear, their support are great.

Can bookmarks be made in the pdf viewer? THis will pretty much decide on if I buy the app or not by itself, since I can't read through a 500 page PDF without the ability to make a bookmark.

This is a great app. I am planning on using my iPhone as a backup device for my documents from my Mac.

I have one question regarding the app though. When I select EDIT (in the volumes listing) and then select a volume to edit, down the bottom of the settings for that Volume it has a section called "Backup" and you can turn on "iTunes Backup". Does anyone have any idea what this does?

It would be great if you could specify in iTunes a folder to backup to it (I know this won't be possible though unfortunately).

Maybe it just backs up all the iTunes data that gets copied across??

Cheers,
Chris :)

Whem i connect from my pc with vista i Can see the folders ön the iPhone but explorer tells me i only have read access and have to Change proxy . Bur i have no proxy. Anyone else with this problem? Could it be the router interfering?

Downloaded. Excellent App.

I'd like to see:

1. filer improvements such as moving and renaming directly on the iPhone

2. sorting

Other than that - almost perfect!

It seems like a little poor timing to me. Both this and MobileFinder come out at the same time and one is less than half the price.

FTP with Windows? F That noise...

I wonder if it's a Windows limitation, since similar apps require it, too. Too bad, because they way it works on a Mac is stunningly simple and easy. Hopefully they'll come up with a Windows method that is just as good.

can anyone answer my earlier question - can this be used with a wired network? Or must your PC and iPhone be on the same wireless network?

If your Wireless and Wired networks form part of the same network (eg. a wireless router with wired connections, like this, very standard setup: http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/GWirelessRouters/WGR614.aspx), then yes, your Wired computer should certainly be able to access this app.

But your iPhone would have to be a member of the same LAN on a WiFi connection, you can't hook your phone up via USB on the host PC and then access the iPhone.
